0:14 explosion!!! amazing! magnificent! fucking brilliant! no words to describe the feeling i get when i listen to this...how can something make you feel so sad yet so happy and angry and alive! but empty at the same time? who can move you to tears make you want to scream and laugh all at once!? Only Pink Floyd!!
My dad took me to see Roger Waters do this live a while ago, and until I saw the show live, I always thought this song was a little out of place compared to the rest of the album. But I've never cried harder in my entire life then when he performed this. The pictures, the graphics, the band, and his face--it was all so glorious, and yes, even that's an understatement.
ever notice how "Comfortably Numb" never comes up directly as a suggestion once you finish playing this version of this song? (at least not from the same user) I'm not sure, but methinks KMRakaKaT may be very wise kitty for doing this. sometimes people's mental state + this album is dangerous... i applaud you for allowing a "cool down" period here. p.s. MRNOT DUCKS!
Saw the movie in 1982 at the cinema. This particular theater had advanced sound for
the time.It was a double feature with "Quadrophenia",can you believe that?!
Funny thing is not many people were there, maybe 10.
I was at the same theatre when starwars showed there and it was practically standing room only. That was years earlier. Art does occur in daily life and this one kind of looks like a Floydian contrast of "likes" and"dislikes".
When they play this song live, they have this video of a little girl in a classroom, and you just see her face. And all of a sudden she starts crying, and she jumps up and run around the table, and when the camera turns you see her jump into her dad's arms.
This is EXTREMELY epic when it's done live. Roger screams his lungs out, and down here in Florida, everyone stood up as the song reached it's climax. Truly one of the anthems for peace in the world.
Even though this song is really short, and by many considered among "the filler" of the album, It was in my opinion one of the best and most dramatic songs during the concert(I went to the Chicago show on 9-21-10), it might be that I've always liked this song for some reason... and you know what's coming up after it, so there's always that anticipation : )
I went to the Roger concert on yesterday he sung this song and i was blown away (which lasted pretty much the whole time) but this song Mother, The Wall prts, The Trial, Hey you and well god dang it all! ROGER WATERS IS A GENIUS
Pink is hallucinating at this point, but he snaps out of it (in a way) and realizes he's alone. The memories of what drove him to build the wall come back and play in his head in this awful recurring loop, from the school teacher's mocking "Wrong! Do it again!", the operator asking "Are you ok?", the groupie attempting to make contact, and his manager's constant knocking at his hotel room door saying "Time to go!". He makes one more attempt to contact those outside the wall, knowing he can't.
It was myself, george mcchesny, rob mills and my brother john hill. Timeless music!!!! I used to trip my nuts off back in the day listening to floyd.... GOD BLESS THE WALL!!! trippin in the late 80's and early 90's. this album helped the ride.
lonely calls for help are leading up to the point where the crooked doctor is going to inject him with drugs so that he can make it back onto the stage.
Lot of thumbs downed comments here. Let's try to be civil, folks. This sone is a little more abstract... in the movie it definately relates to the war, and the snare drums definately sound like a war march, but the montage of sounds seems to be the key for the song itself. Think also of the double meaning with his mother (bring the boys back home) and the fact that this song precedes comfortably numb. The swelling of the haunting noises of his childhood and the culmination of his...

I think this - especially in combination with Vera - is a really amazing song. The way the backing vocals just drop out, turning from triumph to agony, is genius.
Yes, a true classic lp and movie. I remember watching this in college back in 85, for about a year straight!!! I think that this needs to be the theme song for the soldiers in Iraq!!! It's time to come home!!!! Thanks for the tunes!!! Carry ON!
they should've played this during the war with Iraq
