Smits had that ball, Jordan had a couple fingers on it, but he's Jordan so it's a jump-ball. That being said the Pacers still forced a Jordan miss they just gave them another look as they did throughout the series
I would say that in the 6 championship years, the 92 Knicks, 93 Knicks, 96 Sonics (if George Karl stuck Payton on Jordan from the start of the series) and the 98 Pacers were the only 4 teams to really challenge Chicago.
i remember the post game orgy, it was amazing to see just how ardently queer jordan and pippen were. their wives were just sitting and looking so bored.
i remember watching this series when i was 19, i remembered thinking how the Bulls looked like an old team in this series. Pacers could have won this series and game, but they let it slip away. This was the real NBA Finals, as Utah was run out of the gym in the most lopsided 4-2 series in Finals History. Utah could not hurt Chicago like Indiana could. Also, dont forget Lakers-Blazers 2000 as another great series. Indiana could not rebound in this game and missed too many free throws.
The '98 Pacers were the ONLY team that played MJ's Bulls that I honestly thought could've legitimately won the series. The Bulls got everything, plus a few, against Indiana
the only other series that measures up to this one is the 02 lakers vs kings that went seven games... and i think that one had more drama to this one, even tho both series capped a threepeat for both teams
@Kito343 The Lakers vs Kings series had more drama because it was rigged that way. Tim Donaghy pretty much admitted that the Refs and/or NBA had fixed the series to go seven games with a Laker victory.
There is a youtube series about that allegation and analysis of the questionable calls.
Anyway, while that went seven games and capped a three-peat for the Lakers, this one is better because this was a legitimate battle between two stupendous teams. Not marred in controversy.
@scottb3034 I thought this years finals was pretty great also, between the Heat and Mavericks. Nowitzki finally got his title while at the same time humbling James. This year was also an intense series.
@scottb3034 That's bunk. How did the Bulls suddenly get a parade to the line in the 4th quarter despite the Pacers being in the penalty and having the size advantage? Donaghy is full of shit. The Lakers got fouls because like in Game 7 against the Celtics, THEY POUNDED THE BALL INSIDE. All 4th Quarter. Yeah, the pork chop on Bibby was a bad call, but one call for 12 minutes does not a conspiracy make? Did the refs make the Kings miss 14 of 30 FT's in Gm 7? Please. I'm sick of that b/s
nothing but the homecourt decided this series

It's so funny watching the crowd at 8:00min when Steve Kerr gets the ball. They're ready for him to shoot. Man I miss those days.

the white boys really saved this series.
Watch Kukoc and Kerr; neither can play defense for shit but they hit shots when it count.
