  • CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED

  • I have to say, the more I watch Florence the more I am a convert that she is a Goddess. Not Cossoto nor Ludwig nor even Shirley who is my darling can come close in terms of dramatic effect mixed with THE VOICE. Special. Truly Special. Now go watch her do 'Don Fatale'...........DAAAAAMN

  • Truly one of the greatest! As far as standing up with the best mezzos, I say it's safe to say she stands above some of the greatest mezzos.

  • Goddess! No one comes close to this woman, not one. Amazingly gorgeous singing and absolute brilliant voice. If the color of her voice was more important to people than the color of her skin, they'd admit that his woman is THE AMERICAN MEZZO-SOPRANO!!!

  • @BellePaix I don't think by the time Florence Quivar came on the scene her skin colour would have held her back one iota. :)

  • thank you so much for sharing!!!! she's a godness!!!!!!

  • A bog voice trained for the opera house and not the modern mic,

  • @Sadiesexy A big voice..

  • BRAVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • Stunning, what a fabulous interpreter and magnificent voice. A fine singer who is worthy to stand beside the greatest mezzo- sopranos in this part.

  • Wonderful, spine-chilling, especially at both entries of the "Judex ergo"! And what a facial expression to go with the singing! No one could do this better!

  • Absolutely stunning! BRAVISSIMA!!!!

  • Beautiful voice and a nice person too.

  • Even from top to glorious bottom. One of the greatest of all time, truly. And a very nice lady.

  • magistrale interprétation !

  • The voice is outSTANDING! There's not much more to say about it. Brilliant.

  • A very rare voice, but oh! What a fabulous instrument!!!!

  • 100% agree with you!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this amazing rendition, what with her voice and Riccardo Muti's conducting I am really shattered.

  • Absolutely fabulous!!! I have always loved her -what a gift!

  • um she teaches at the Frost School of Music now....

  • Love the lower register at 2:55. Very pleasing and developed. She's amazing

  • nobody who ever sang with florence underated her i promise. as for being able to teach she most assuedly can. any lady wanting to sing should try to work with her. but be warned her's is the old fashioned technique of the great singers. she can be reached probably through temple university or CAMI. i am reluctant in giving out her number, but she's not all that hard if you're really interested. i wish we had been able to do a verdi requiem together. i sang that as much as any part.

  • I wish more singers were taught that old fashioned technique.

  • this is freakishly great!!!

  • Slap Leontyne up there with her and you've got a Requiem for the ages, I tell you! Very nice! Is there more?

  • I want to hear her sing O Don Fatale in her prime like this!! Does anybody know where I can hear that? Did she record Eboli??

  • She is truly amazing. Have always thought that she should have been won of the stars you speak about when you say Mezzo. If I were a mezzo I would want this sound!!!

  • you go girl..... wow. florence, if there were any better mezzos out there than you i never heard or sang with one

we sang together once and she was nothing less than stellar. so good it was scary.... the suund lust pours out. also, a nice lady

they should have put a little plaque over her hear that read...''THIS IS WHAT A VERDI MEZZO SHOULD SOUND LIKE'' and make every voice student list to her

  • where did you guys perform together?

  • carnegie hall, nyc. la gioconda concert version. she was wonderful. i spoke to her on the phone a couple of months ago and she is now retired and living in philadelphia where she teaches. i would have to say she was the best mezzo i ever sang with. she had it all. muscianship and voice. an old fashioned voice if you know what i mean. luckily we have quite a few recording of her so her artistry is remembered

  • Thanks for the update, hers is a voice for the ages.

  • oh wow... i do know what you mean. It seems as though she is the last of that old fashioned voice. I know of no other mezzo that has it. Its almost as if the sound isnt coming from her mouth but through her soul. you know... She's a mezzo with this rich and creamy bottom but oh my when she soars into her top, its clearer than most sopranos. and unlike most mezzos the timbre matches through the entire voice. what lucky students she has!!! but you may not be abble to teach that.

  • Mezzócskák tanuljatok a nénitől!

Végig nagyszájjal, csücsörítve énekel, és ettől szól nagyot. Mellregiszterben is, sőt főleg. Amikor meg az elején az a'-e" ugrásnál behúzza az ajkait az meg zseniális trükk, hogy az e" a helyén maradjon.

  • I absolutely LOVE this voice. Gorgeous !!!!

  • And very criminally underrated

  • how long i've waited to hear her sing this!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SING IT QUIVAR! Amazing
