the like/dislike bar reminds me of the explosive gum from Mission Impossible N64 LOL. Other than that, I say that in fair play, you must use your strategies. Federer used to dislike the drop shot, calling it a cheap way out, but it's a fair tactic, and it's won him countless points. In this case, to send it in a place where Berdych could return just because hitting it to him would be a "coward's way out," would just be restricting your own freedom of fair play. He apologized on court, at that.
Obviously the court is big. But the thing is when you're in the position Almagro was in and he was trying to scramble to retrieve the ball, you really just hit the ball in the general direction of what would be "in bounds" in the court and hope it doesn't end up in the net, you win the point, or at least that you hit the ball in a manner that would still give you a slight chance of winning the point or give you time to at least get ready again. For Berdych to say stuff like that was stupid.
Almagro played the right shot. He was on the run and put the ball exactly when you want it. Your out there to win not to make friends. Plus the shot hit his arm and berdych acted like a pussy. When the match is over and it's all said and done you shake the guys hand like a classy player. I lost all respect for berdych and I hope almagro beats the shit out of him next time they play.
Both guys did wrong. Almagro couldve passed the balll. Like berdych said there were enough space for pro tennis player to manage the point without hitting the opponent. But after all, Berdych refused to shake hands that made him worse
@Preciousjh The ball was below the level of the net, and almagro was running close to full speed forward. He hit it hard over the low part of the net, because the was the most effective direction to go. Yes, he had other options, but none that would have kept him in it as well as that one could. Lendl used to deliberately hit it at the guy because it's a tough shot to handle. If you can't take a ball being hit at you, get off the damn court. He didn't hit him in spite.
Of course Nicolas wasn't meaning to harm Thomas, Nicolas was trying to get the point so Thomas is just being such a drama queen trying to make out that Nicolas was trying to hit him on purpose.
Thomas is such a bad looser and always try's to make the other top 10 players look bad where as he's the bad one and always makes the other 9 feel bad! :(
i think berdych is right about this. but i also believe that he should've been a good enough sport to at least shake his hand. afterall, these guys are millionaires
Pfft... Gentleman mannerism and being a pussy is a complete different thing. You made a lucky cord ball, raise your hand as gesture, you hit your opponent, likewise. I've seen players lost point because they were 'too nice' and avoid hitting the ball toward their opponents only to see the ball returned.
It's sport and it is supposed to get rough at times. What Berdych did was just as sissy as diving in football.
Secondly look at Llodra. He serves and volleys and gets hit in the face and body a lot. Do you see him crying like a baby? No, he gets up, dusts himself off and is ready for the next point.
Sorry Tomas but it's a tough sport. Look at Lendl. He was ruthless and hit at the opponent. It's all fair game. He was number one and a major slam winner. You are yet to achieve any of those feats.
I agree fully with the commentator, hitting the ball towards your opponent is one of the ways to win a point, and most regular tennis players know that. For instance the doubles players would have to change their games entirely if they were not allowed to aim at opponents' bodies.
what a lil bitchy pussy. thats part of the sports..when i get hit i dont do shit, happens. and im a woman. hate this little fat stupid rat. glad rafa kicked his ass. fucking retard
Almagro didn't do anything wrong. He is running n a full speed and hit the ball in to the middle of the court. If he hit somewhere else, he could hit an error or Berdych may get to it. It's a part of tennis game and it's a right shot to play. The good sportsmanship is that when the game is over, just leave it in the game. Berdych didn't do anything wrong too, but it's just not what he should do, it's the worst sportsmanship act in tennis to refuse checking hand after the match.
He did have plenty of room to hit the ball and i think he did do it on purpose. I could understand that he had to do what he had to do to win the point but when i watched that he could of placed the ball anywhere and still win that point. It almost looks like he put his hands up so early after hitting the ball like he knew it was gonna hit him. I just dont get why berdych is copping all the criticism.
@embelle95 On the full run, he couldn't, especially on a low shot like that. He can't go down the line because Berdych has a wide wingspan and would have gotten it and going cross court is too risky from that angle so jamming the player is the only way to go. It's pretty much Berdych's fault for not reacting quickly enough.
If Berdych had shaken Almagro's hands, Almagro would have been the villain. So Berdych is stupid for taking matters into 'his own hands', took it personally and now everyone hates him. Dumb ass! and he was winning too!
@MrGrenadeLauncher Even if they did shake hands Almagro still wouldn't have been the villain. That shot was a perfectly fair shot, Berdych just didn't react fast enough.
It was not nice that Almagro didn't avoid hitting Berdych with the tennis ball and it was not nice that Berdych didn't shake Almagro's hand. why is Berdych's action worst than Almagro`s? They both made stupid choices. It`s not the end of the world. I won`t think Almagro was right, after all, he could have done differently. I could never take his side like some people do. They were both wrong.
@limafilho27 Almagro's case was accidental, and he apologized instantly. It was a situation out of his hands, and he clearly regretted it. Berdych, on the other hand, purposely refused to acknowledge his apology and shake his hand afterwards. Had it been Djokovic, Nadal or Federer I am sure they would have been much warmer toward the situation and wouldn't have a bitch fit like Berdych. It's clear that Berdych is 100% in the wrong..
That wasn´t right, Berdych... you could´ve shown your anger into the court, but not shaking hands was too much ugly. Pero ahora Rafa nos ha dado nuestra pequeña venganza!
Cry baby. Going at someone who's at the net is a ligitament tactic. Berdych has a huge wingspan it's often good to go straight at tall players because they get cramped. It's the same with a body serve.. Do you cry if you get hit? Could you imagine people in lavers day having a whine. I've been hit many times
It's not the first time Berdych behaves badly. I recall an incident in theMadrid Masters when he played against Nadal. He got really mad at the crowd who were supporting Nadal and left the court in a sulk after winning the match. Some people are bad losers, but it looks like Berdych is a bad winner (which is a lot worse). Glad to see him out now after he's been beaten by the great Nadal.
This is poor sportsmanship on Byrdych's part. I understand being pumped up just after the match and not shaking hands in the moment. But after the match during the interview he should have apologized. I've been hit by the ball many times. It happens sometimes in tennis and is completely legal to "jam" a player.
i am actually on berdych's side here. i do think that they should have shaken hands, but when the commentator asked almagro if he tried to hit him, all he said was i tried to win the point.
@Cardshark45 my point is that almagro could have said it differently. he could have said no of course i didn't try to hit him. i would never do a thing like that
@poplova He at least told the truth. When there's a player at the net you either go at him or hit a passing shot. In this case Almagro had no other shot that was a high percentage shot that he could make so the only one he could go for is at Berdych. This is completely Berdych's fault here because he did not react quickly enough to return Almagro's shot.
@Cardshark45 i half agree with u. of course almagro wanted to win the point, every pro does, but part of being a pro is also about acting like a professional. i also however think that berdych made a very overly-dramatic fall. however, almagro did appologise, whether it was meant or not. so i'm honestly not sure who's side i'm on right now. i just know that if a tennis player had aimed, whether intentionally or not, a tennis ball at me, i would be pretty damn pissed
ha ha ha. Funny that I am the cry baby when you are the ones sounding like little chickens. He didnt show perfect sportmanship and then everyone keeps bitching as if he is the bloody antichrist himself. Grow up babies. Nuff said
I don think Berdych is a sook at all in this situation. What he says is actually true and I would be really upset if this happened to me as well. For all you moaners, get a life. He was pissed off and had every right to be so
@tholvik78 So if you play football and someone hit you with the ball, then you are upset? Be a man!!! I do play tennis, and if it is not specified in the Rules that you can't hit the other player then It would be written in... If it is not in the Rules, then everybodys is wrong!
All these idiots calling Berdych a pussy, learn the game or at least be half decent at it and you will understand why he was upset, you're talking about professional players who can hit the ball either side of the court and he hits straight at him. You dont see people hitting a smash right down the middle. Get EDUCATED MORONS!!!
@sammymort14 You really don't understand the game do you? He can't go down the line on the full run like that cause that's a very low percentage shot; same if he went cross court because he would have to cut it close to the line because Berdych has such a wide wingspan. The only logical shot is to go at the player and jam him or her. This is completely 100% Berdych's fault. When a player goes up to the net they should be ready for anything, and clearly he wasn't.
I've heard before that Almagro is a jerk and that some players don't like him. When I saw the replay, it looked like it was a badly judged hit and that Almagro didn't mean to hit him. But in the interview, when asked if he meant to hit him he dodged it twice by saying, "I tried to win the point". Sounds to me like he did meant to. Still, I think Berdych should have just bit the bullet and given him a limp no eye-contact hand shake like a lot of players who don't like each other do.
Berdych, you are nothing but a fucking cunt! You don't derserve to play on major tennis court, just go and play dolls. Like Wajdeah said, "yeah there are enough space to put it right in your asshole"!!
this was like in soccer when mesi is 2 metres off goalkeeper and he can score where he wants but he choose to score ¨with goalkeepers head ¨. After the game the goalkeeper will not shake hands with messi. I don´t know if messi will ever do this, but I know what nicolas will do in a similar situation. Anyway berdych is wrong as well.
U all fucking stupid and fat Americans u don't know anything about tennis and your reasoning made this world fail in crisis. the ball was going at least at 100 miles/hour. if almagro hit berdych in the face he would have hurt him seriously. he is not acting like a fag. he is acting like a tennis player. anybody else would have done the same thing.
@nikoiaco Not really spastic. He lost the point and got embarrassed that's why he having a go at Almagro. What he's trying to say is, "The tennis court is big. If he hit it in another spot it would've given me a chance to play the ball back. But instead he played the right option and smashed it down my throat. And because it hit my arm I'm allowed to sook about it to the world"
Americans know nothing about Tennis? I'll just give you a list of Open Era Grand Slam Singles winners: Roddick, Sampras, Agassi, Courier, Michael Chang, McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Johan Kriek (Soth African-American), Brian Teacher, Vitas Gerulaitis, Roscoe Tanner, Stan Smith, Arthur Ashe. And the ladies: Serena Wlliams, Venus Williams, Davenport, Capriati, Monica Seles (Serbian-American), Chris Evert, Tracy Austin, Navratilova (Czech-American), Billie Jean King, Barbara Jordan, Nancy Richey.
I had to write a new reply because the list was too long. Anyways, let's just leave it there. Dude, did you really believed Americans know nothing about Tennis or are you just angry at us beautiful fat, skinny, whatever Americans?
this is why I know Berdych is a fucking ass hole...he has a totally wrong out look of the game...it was an accident and the guy said sorry 3/4 times..why take it personal?...the fucking prick seriously lives in his own world where he think he's some kind of GOAT and that he is a better player and everyone on tour..it's they way he speak, act and carries himself...total tard...I remember when he beat Federer at Wimbol...in his interview he was told the Fed had a bad back hence why he lost
this guy totally denied it saying that the back problem might of appeared after the match or that Federer my be just lying because he lost and that Fed look 100% to him in the match so it couldn't be true..Dum shit never beat Federer ever again up to this day...that really pissed me cuz the guy honestly through he was better than Fed talking him down and everything...not even Nadal think he's better than Fed yet he has more reason to believe so..hence why i like nadal..shows such great respect
getting hit with the ball is part of the game. ive been hit with the ball many times and ive hit people as well. i seriously doubt almagro was trying to be malicious.
if berdych has never been hit with the ball before in his entire life then i'd say he's lying.
Unfortunately aiming at the opponent is part of the game. Lendl is famous for using this tactic against McEnroe and other player. Almagro did apologise straight after, genuine or not. If you still have bad feelings next time you play each other, take a shot at him at the net, so shake his hand then say "puta".
Okay, when you're running for the ball the last thing on your mind is not to "hit the opponent", he just hit a shot and there is no way in hell to control that. So Berdych should quit being a little baby.
first of all: Hewitt would never even consider not shaking hands.
second of all: the crowd would do the same as they did. Australian crowd is one of the most fair. Whoever doesn't shake hands after match deserves this. If you have the guts to do it, deal with the consequences.
@thefieryfurnace yes like he could have died from a fucking ball hahaha wtf is he pregnant or what, want a cunt, was he going to cry or what? what a pussy, if wants to be a cretine he better get tough or quit on roid rages and hair loss
@thefieryfurnace maybe you could stand in front of almagro for a few minutes and he'll "just try to win the point" with you in his way for several times... I guess you're right, Beydrich is getting paid for standing out there, so he's supposed to get over it... but it's his decision wether he shakes someone's hand or not. is he supposed to like/respect the guy who's hitting him with tennis balls?
@cimedalmatinac If it was an accident, yes. This is tennis and if you do not have respect for your opponents, don't expect respect from them and furthermore from spectators. Nadal and Federer have never done this, hence the reason they will always be 100x more respected then Berdych, regardless of rankings/achievements.
@bayleee77 I agree, if it was an accident, you're totally right. when I saw the comments i got the impression that wasn't the case... even if almagro did hit him on purpose, Berdych should get over with, as I guess, he will. but if it was on purpose, why should he shake almagro's hand? i don't think nadal or federer would shake an oponent's hand if he would try to hit them on pupose.
@cimedalmatinac I think they would. They've been playing for a very long time, and have been in the Top 10 for many many years. Never have I seen them behave inappropriately or disrespect their opponents in anyway. They've been through heaps of strange situations, and not once have they walked off court without shaking the hands of their opponents..
What Almagro did was completely fine, so many tennis players would do that I mean Federer does it all the time! You are pretty much guaranteed the point and if he hit it cross court or down the line there would be a chance or Berdych sticking his racket out and getting a winner or Almagro even hitting it out. Berdych not shaking Almagro's hand over something as petty as getting his by a ball is so childish and disrespectful
@thefieryfurnace i agree, he won the point fair and square. it's professional tennis and that's that. my opinion is that ends do not justify the means. it's naive, i know...
Maybe Berdych make wrong decision too, when he didnt shake with Almagro. But my question is, where was crowd, when Almagro shoot Berdych? Apologize isnt all, i saw a lot of maches when Berdych was hitted by opponent, but he never react like this, so he must to know that it was purposeful move by Almagro, dont matter that he apologized...I dont defend Berdych, but i dont know why Almagro looks like victim after mach. He deserve at least the same conviction!
Wtf...such an unsportif action from Berdych. I used te a little fan but now i'm not anymore. Almagro is a sportif guy, like all other top 10 players. He should be ashamed of himself, even if he apoligizes after !
little bitch

@Cardshark45 i half agree with u. of course almagro wanted to win the point, every pro does, but part of being a pro is also about acting like a professional. i also however think that berdych made a very overly-dramatic fall. however, almagro did appologise, whether it was meant or not. so i'm honestly not sure who's side i'm on right now. i just know that if a tennis player had aimed, whether intentionally or not, a tennis ball at me, i would be pretty damn pissed
poplova 1 month ago
@poplova Yes, I would be upset if someone hit me but you have to remember it's a part of the game whether you like it or not.

I don think Berdych is a sook at all in this situation. What he says is actually true and I would be really upset if this happened to me as well. For all you moaners, get a life. He was pissed off and had every right to be so
tholvik78 1 month ago
@tholvik78 So if you play football and someone hit you with the ball, then you are upset? Be a man!!! I do play tennis, and if it is not specified in the Rules that you can't hit the other player then It would be written in... If it is not in the Rules, then everybodys is wrong!
danielpalomares 1 month ago
@danielpalomares What I mean is that only rules are right... otherwise if it is not a rule then you can do it...

DummerDummy 1 month ago
All these idiots calling Berdych a pussy, learn the game or at least be half decent at it and you will understand why he was upset, you're talking about professional players who can hit the ball either side of the court and he hits straight at him. You dont see people hitting a smash right down the middle. Get EDUCATED MORONS!!!
sammymort14 1 month ago
@sammymort14 You really don't understand the game do you? He can't go down the line on the full run like that cause that's a very low percentage shot; same if he went cross court because he would have to cut it close to the line because Berdych has such a wide wingspan. The only logical shot is to go at the player and jam him or her. This is completely 100% Berdych's fault. When a player goes up to the net they should be ready for anything, and clearly he wasn't.
Cardshark45 1 month ago
I've heard before that Almagro is a jerk and that some players don't like him. When I saw the replay, it looked like it was a badly judged hit and that Almagro didn't mean to hit him. But in the interview, when asked if he meant to hit him he dodged it twice by saying, "I tried to win the point". Sounds to me like he did meant to. Still, I think Berdych should have just bit the bullet and given him a limp no eye-contact hand shake like a lot of players who don't like each other do.

this was like in soccer when mesi is 2 metres off goalkeeper and he can score where he wants but he choose to score ¨with goalkeepers head ¨. After the game the goalkeeper will not shake hands with messi. I don´t know if messi will ever do this, but I know what nicolas will do in a similar situation. Anyway berdych is wrong as well.

U all fucking stupid and fat Americans u don't know anything about tennis and your reasoning made this world fail in crisis. the ball was going at least at 100 miles/hour. if almagro hit berdych in the face he would have hurt him seriously. he is not acting like a fag. he is acting like a tennis player. anybody else would have done the same thing.
nikoiaco 1 month ago

And the ladies: Serena Wlliams, Venus Williams, Davenport, Capriati, Monica Seles (Serbian-American), Chris Evert, Tracy Austin, Navratilova (Czech-American), Billie Jean King, Barbara Jordan, Nancy Richey.

this is why I know Berdych is a fucking ass hole...he has a totally wrong out look of the game...it was an accident and the guy said sorry 3/4 times..why take it personal?...the fucking prick seriously lives in his own world where he think he's some kind of GOAT and that he is a better player and everyone on tour..it's they way he speak, act and carries himself...total tard...I remember when he beat Federer at Wimbol...in his interview he was told the Fed had a bad back hence why he lost

this guy totally denied it saying that the back problem might of appeared after the match or that Federer my be just lying because he lost and that Fed look 100% to him in the match so it couldn't be true..Dum shit never beat Federer ever again up to this day...that really pissed me cuz the guy honestly through he was better than Fed talking him down and everything...not even Nadal think he's better than Fed yet he has more reason to believe so..hence why i like nadal..shows such great respect

getting hit with the ball is part of the game. ive been hit with the ball many times and ive hit people as well. i seriously doubt almagro was trying to be malicious.
if berdych has never been hit with the ball before in his entire life then i'd say he's lying.

Unfortunately aiming at the opponent is part of the game. Lendl is famous for using this tactic against McEnroe and other player. Almagro did apologise straight after, genuine or not. If you still have bad feelings next time you play each other, take a shot at him at the net, so shake his hand then say "puta".
MrYoumitube 1 month ago
Okay, when you're running for the ball the last thing on your mind is not to "hit the opponent", he just hit a shot and there is no way in hell to control that. So Berdych should quit being a little baby.

How would the audience react if Hewitt had been stricken(hit) by Almagro?
karelzelezny 1 month ago
@karelzelezny
first of all: Hewitt would never even consider not shaking hands.
second of all: the crowd would do the same as they did. Australian crowd is one of the most fair. Whoever doesn't shake hands after match deserves this. If you have the guts to do it, deal with the consequences.

He tried to hit our player, if he had a problem with the ball and not make such a big hit.
In addition, the record is clear to see that ball bounce is quite high and insidious Spaniel is with him in time.

@thefieryfurnace yes like he could have died from a fucking ball hahaha wtf is he pregnant or what, want a cunt, was he going to cry or what? what a pussy, if wants to be a cretine he better get tough or quit on roid rages and hair loss
hdp26 1 month ago 2
@thefieryfurnace maybe you could stand in front of almagro for a few minutes and he'll "just try to win the point" with you in his way for several times... I guess you're right, Beydrich is getting paid for standing out there, so he's supposed to get over it... but it's his decision wether he shakes someone's hand or not. is he supposed to like/respect the guy who's hitting him with tennis balls?
cimedalmatinac 1 month ago
@cimedalmatinac If it was an accident, yes. This is tennis and if you do not have respect for your opponents, don't expect respect from them and furthermore from spectators. Nadal and Federer have never done this, hence the reason they will always be 100x more respected then Berdych, regardless of rankings/achievements.
bayleee77 1 month ago
@bayleee77 I agree, if it was an accident, you're totally right. when I saw the comments i got the impression that wasn't the case... even if almagro did hit him on purpose, Berdych should get over with, as I guess, he will. but if it was on purpose, why should he shake almagro's hand? i don't think nadal or federer would shake an oponent's hand if he would try to hit them on pupose.
cimedalmatinac 1 month ago
@cimedalmatinac I think they would. They've been playing for a very long time, and have been in the Top 10 for many many years. Never have I seen them behave inappropriately or disrespect their opponents in anyway. They've been through heaps of strange situations, and not once have they walked off court without shaking the hands of their opponents..
bayleee77 1 month ago
@cimedalmatinac
What Almagro did was completely fine, so many tennis players would do that I mean Federer does it all the time! You are pretty much guaranteed the point and if he hit it cross court or down the line there would be a chance or Berdych sticking his racket out and getting a winner or Almagro even hitting it out. Berdych not shaking Almagro's hand over something as petty as getting his by a ball is so childish and disrespectful
thefieryfurnace 1 month ago
