Many theists are guilty of this but atheists are equally guilty with trying to "disprove" the existence of god. It's called faith for a reason, because you either believe it or you don't, it's a lifestyle and therefore entirely personal. Religion has nothing to do with science or politics, the only thing it matters to is you as an individual.

@OFswag666 First of all whether homosexuality is a sin or not has nothing to do with science, it is a moral issue. Second of all blaming religion for the way some people interpret it is ridiculous, it's like blaming a knife for stabbing someone instead of the guy who stabbed. Religion and science can live in total harmony because they have nothing to do with each other. I'm religious and I study biomedical science, hell Newton was deeply religious.

as for your statement that religion has helped advance science in a major way, i disagree, it has helped but only in a minor way. the church and religion has allowed scientific studies to be published so long as they didnt contradict its teaching but that's about it.
