People, this flute is NOT a Ney in any way. It has nothing at all to do with Middle Eastern culture in any way.

This flute's maker decided to call it an "Arabian Flute" because he, like most people, assumed that its scale is "Arabian" and most likely knows nothing about REAL Middle Eastern, Egyptian, or Turkish flutes.

Please educate yourselves.

@skooterkid The reason that this is called the "Arabic" flute is because it approximates the Double Harmonic scale, which is also known as the Arabic and Byzantine scale. It would be far more accurate to call it the "Double Harmonic Flute. " But that's just my two cents worth.

If my ears serve me correctly...that's no "Arabic" flute in the LEAST. It's a transverse bamboo flute made by a white guy in the USA. I had one...it was bad.

Ney is originally a Persian flute. Persia has one of the oldest and most influential empire in the Middle East, and they have brought their cultural influence to nearby kingdoms and places that have been part of their empire. The Turkish civilisation simply has many Persian influence, as seen with the Ottomans. Even the sufi troupe was found by a Persian who lived in Turkey during the Ottoman empire.

@Broducer arabic is a VERY loose and broard term (which seems to be used mostly by muslims)...similar instruments are right through to asia minor and even into india, arabia's influence at its peak spanned itself all over 2 major continents.

In the Arabic flute there r 2 kinds of flute- Nay n Kawalah - both have amazing sound full of sadness,affection n purity!

Dont buy any Arabic flute from untrusted places, cuz alot of ppl sale a bad made Arabic flutes in a high price only trust the ones who plays the Arabic flutes also watch out the quality n which kind of reed.
