Not only is Di'giorgio they best bassist in the metal scene, in my oppinion, John Allen is the best drummer and Darren Travis the best thrash metal vocalist
...they're good, but they're not SADUS. Araya of course contributed to the invention of the genre, Gene Hoglan is a great drummer, Petrozza used to be a great composer and did wonderful things, Tony Choy is good as well, but SADUS is something else. :)
I think I can safely say that no Sadus fan is an idiot, so I can safely say that Steve DiGiorgio is just as important if not more so than Cliff Burton. Sure Cliff bought some fantastic song writing to the metal secene, but Steve's sound is unique and his finger work is just as energetic as Cliffs. Idividual Thought Patterns by Death is as essential as Master of Puppets. Even as essential as Jaco Pastorius's works. People who say metal bass is rubbish don't know Mr. DiGiorgio.
I actually my defretted my £500 bass because I wanted to sound like Mr. DiGiorgio. I could have bought one for a lot less so I must have been going through an impatient phase. What I don't understand is why is he sidelined to bassists who play in big bands, but are "relatively" shit? If he was to join a popular band he would become an overnight star (Sebastian Bach doesn't count because he himself in a twat so anyone associated with him isn't going to get far).
I know what you're saying dude, but if i'm honest, i'm so glad he hasn't done that. His work playing for underground bands has helped so many artists create incredible works, that i'd hate to see him in just a 'band', and more importantly, SADUS is their band, him Darren and Jon. That is their ultimate form of musical expression and I hope they never stop. I've seen him twice, once with Death and once with Testament and both times he was just spell-binding. A true pioneer-never imitated. LEGEND.
I didn't say I wanted to him join a big band, merely that if he did he would instantly get a 500% increase in both pay and fanbase. I agree, Sadus is the best place for him musically, the stuff he did with Quo Vadis was impressive too. I just wish people were slightly more aware of these underground sounds.
if he played in a popular band he might get less talented because the wouldnt be able to keep up or have enough talent for him to even consider playing with them
@Jakekko "Idividual Thought Patterns by Death is as essential as Master of Puppets."
That's blasphemy, Master of Puppets SUCKS when compared to any Death record, especially ITP. Seriously, MOP is VERY generic, and didn't really DO anything. It didn't innovate or influence very many great things. Death's ITP is far more essential, but far less recognized.
@Jakekko Yet DiGiorgio has so many years on Cliff. Had he lived, he would have only gotten better and better. What made cliff so groundbreaking was his innovation. Not technical ability. Hell, he fooled James into thinking he was playing a regular guitar when he went to check out Trauma at the Troubadour. And he was an amazing writer. There are plenty of people out there who are technical virtuoso's of their instruments. But will be lost in history because they can't cut it creatively.
@Beholder505 I don't see how Cliff was innovative, he didn't do anything new, he just happened to be in the biggest metal band at the time. Bass solos existed before Cliff, as did using it as a lead/melodious instrument. He was an excellent musician, no question, talent and imagination, but not inventive as such. Ok, Steve hasn't turned the bass world on it's head, but his sound is pretty unique in the genre and beyond.
This song is off the Vision of Misery album. All the songs from it are fucking bad ass. I found my old box of tapes the other day going through my storage unit. I found the cassette which I bought back in high school. I was stoked and started blasting it so the neighborhood could get a taste of SADUS!! Steve DiGiorgio is one of the best thrash bassist around! He is so under-rated.
the name itself is actually taken off DUNE - Rick Rogers, the creator for the band's logo came up with it and the band choose it even if they didn't know what to think of it but just thought it sounded cool.
Love this song, along with Echoes of Forever. "Misery" was a great offering from them but IMHO not as good as their best ever "Swallowed In Black". Every song there is kick ass! Sadus Rules!
Steve Digiorgio also played in Death, Autopsy, Testament and Iced Earth. I consider Sadus as one my favourite bands, I like all their albums especially the first 3. Alot of long time fans don't like the newer stuff saying they are losing there roots experimenting with there one of a kind sound. Well for me it's starting to grow on the more I listen to it, I like the sci-fi sound effects and the instrumental parts too.
Brilliant song, fucking killer bass work as always. This album and Swallowed in Black are first class executions of tech death/thrash.
