This scene of death was the only thing I can remember from watching this as a child. I remembered how the sky and water went blood red... I think the trauma of the event may have encrypted it in my long term memory.

I was really scared of the hunter when I was a little kid. I don't like the look of his face. In one other episode (I think it's the next one) Babar is having a nightmare about him and It was even scarier. It was night and a thunderstorm outside of Babars' window in Madame's house and that made the feeling even creepier.

well we USED do to it mostly for food and clothing. Then we invented guns and poisons that made it so easy that we got greedy and started to kill animals simply for parts of them (like tusks in the case of elephants) or because they were in the road.

But yeah, its a shame people can't value the life of other creatures the same as their own :C

The hunter runs away!

thats really funny, because Im pretty sure thats NOT from the original episode, i remember it pretty well. Somehow it was inserted in there, possibly through the dubbing process?

Yeah, that is definitely different music. I just checked my recording of the HBO airing, and the original music was the menacing deep piano chords theme that was often used with the rhinos. They also enhanced some sound effects.

The new synthesizer music sounds really out of place, to me. I don't think they ever used anything other than classical instruments with any of the original score.

Yeah, but its a kids cartoon, its designed to teach kids morals and ethics in a way they understand. That hunter took a life out of greed, without sparing a thought for the consequences, and thats a very bad thing to do, human or not. Do you think what the hunter did was right just because he was human and the victims weren't? Even if its not real, theres a lesson to be learnt there.
