  • interesting thought....do cell think?

  • @87mathal Short Answer: NO.

  • @87mathal What is thought? Neurons interacting.

    Do cells have neurons?

    No.

Unless the cells are neurons, then I guess they ARE thoughts. Haha.

  • @87mathal

It really depends on how you define think. If you mean does it get external cues from its environment and react to them, then yes cells "think". You could even say they have memory (epigenetics). However, if you are asking if they can consciously evaluate and make their own decisions, then no.

  • Doesn't look like he's "chasing" him. Looks more like the bacterium were "herding" it. You can see two of them "pulling" against them. It doesn't look like the bacterium is destroyed. But then again, I know nothing about such biological transmogrifications, nor this bacterialomological kung-fu treachery.

  • @somecomputergeek It'll slowly be dissolved inside the cell.

  • @Yensehn

I'm sure you're right, but I didn't see it, and besides, isn't that irrelevant? All I saw was the behavior prior to it. I found that the most interesting thing about this video was at :07 . If the Neutrophil was "chasing" the bacterium, it must at the very least have the ability to chase two at the same time, but Occam's razor leads me to believe its the bacterium themselves play a significant role in, and may in some way even be initiating, the behavior.

  • phagocytosis!!

  • YEAH!!! PACMAN WINS!!!!

  • Nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom

  • lol. Stupid antigen.

  • Nice video even though it's old...this has probably been rattling around immunology undergraduate classes for the last 3 decades since the time of film projectors haha.

  • pfizer makes biological weapons of mass destruction

who wants some deadly geodon or whatever they really gave me

17089234000 free 24/7 terminal support related to any pc issues.

if it's ok what pfizer is doing ,using biolotgical agents against innocent civilians, hell let's just start launching all our nukes at eachother..

stick me with needle, after i tell u heart problems, and you mr nurse don't give a fuugk, donetingforabuck!!goto nursejim n dr beresford are murderers

  • hey

  • OHHHH EMMMM GEEEE THAT GUY HAX

  • haha

the only black guy gets shot

  • Damn... Never thought i'd be on the side of bacteria. Kinda felt bad for the little guy. i looked like someone getting chased by a city block.

  • you are whatching this in real live its now happening in your own body!

    XD :P

  • Bad boys bad boys whatcha' gonna' do? Whatcha' gonna do when they come for you?

  • How come it can focus on only one target and completely ignored the other dancing bacteria at 0:11 (towards the right) who basically stuck it's tongue out at the neutrophil??

  • Anyone else hear "GOTCHA, BITCH!" in dave chappelle's voice at the end?

  • Cool! All it lacks are appropriate Pac-Man sound effects. :)

  • the comments to this video are hilarious =D

  • Holy shit this is amazing.

    Bacteria got owned

  • holla to Mr. Matulla AP2s class

  • Holla back Mrs. Mihaljevic's IB Standard Bio

  • GOT THAT MOTHAFUCKA

  • Mahfucka just got his candy ass eaten

  • LOL OWNED

  • 0:20 OWNT

  • Bacterium: FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Neutrophil: I'M GONNA GET U SUCKA.

  • RUUUUUUUUUUUN!

  • Wow, my body is like a video game on the inside =3.

The white blood cell has a case of the noms.

  • The white blood cell is the ultimate bad ass.

  • OM NOM NOM!!!

  • 0:07 JUKED!!!!

  • Now that is some sweet phagocystosis action!

  • fascinating

  • Om nom nom

  • Spore Cell Stage.

  • nom nom nom!

  • Its a phagocyte not a Neutrophil!!!

  • @TwiStK1LL: FYI it's a neutrophil is a phagocyte... there is no 'phagocyte' cell, it refers to immune cells that are competent for phagocytosis

  • its a process called chemotaxis, it responds to chemical changes in the "environment" and follows the "signal"

  • You're saying it can "smell" the bacteria? Amazing :)

  • @ddelward Isn't it called phagocytosis?

  • @xXSherviNXx phagocytosis is the process of ingesting, not the "chasing"

  • @ddelward Oh, thanks for the clarification.

  • how does it now where the bacteria is running to?

  • Get some baby...kill those foreign fuckers!

  • It's interesting and cute how these things work, I like seeing these things because of that. :) It is fascinating indeed.

  • why are the other ones standing around an not helping?

  • they are red blood cells, they can't kill bacteria.

  • That bacteria just got owned...

  • egytiangel320 is a smart cookie.

  • Haha, that is increbile! Is it hydrophobic vs. hydrophilic that drives the bacterium away from the neutrophil?

Also, how do you know it's a neutrophil and not a macrophage? Size?

  • I think there are some bigger factors going on beyond hydrophobicity. The bacteria is definitely recognizing, via some cellular process (surface protein recognition of the neutrophil perhaps?), that something is trying to eat it.

I have no idea about the distinction between a neutrophil and a macrophage, but wikipedia probably has info on that.

  • Run Bacteria run!!

  • wow I'll never feel lazy ever again. my neutrophil's are always hard at work lol

  • AWESOME! and hands up if your taking the AP test tomorrow :(

  • lol pacman wakawakawakawakawakawakawakawakawakawakawakawaka

    dllelelleellelelluu. *wah wah*

  • hahahaha this is amazing

  • CANCER CURE = HEMP OIL

  • Im now under attack of this black points >:-(

  • ......(o.o)......

  • cute!!

  • woohoo for WBC's :D

  • How does the Neutrophil follow the bacteria? It obviously doesn't have eyes or a consciousness but this behaviour makes it seem as if it does

  • the bacteria secretes some chemical that is foreign to its system thus attracting its attention which explain the chase.

  • It's all due to cell signalling. there is a peptide (formylated Met-Leu-Phe) which uses G-protein coupled receptors. This peptide on the bacterium signals the neutrophil for phagocytosis.

  • actually, the bacteria isnt secreting anything, if it was, it would just be asking the WBC to kill it. since bacterium are diff. organisms than humans, their bodies are coated with diff. proteins than the cells of our bodies. our immune system is designed to recognize anything that is foreign(coated with diff. proteins )and attack it. the neutrophils cell follows the the chemicals that are coating the surface of the bacteria. hope this helped.

  • haha, it was almost like one of those 'puppy chasing a kitty' videos. awesome

  • pure pwnage by neutrophil...
