Yes, it is partly his fault that the Reds pitchers had such horrible numbers.

According to the statisticians, Dunn's offense created 35-45 more runs than an average bench player. However, his defense was so atrocious that he gave up 15-25 more runs than the average bench player. So at 20 runs above replacement, he's an average starting LF at best.

Dunn is not slow. If he would have hustled occasionally he would have been an average fielder.

I don't care how bad of a fielder Dunn is. The Reds had horrific pitching staffs when he first came up and they finally began to become decent at the end of his tenure. I mean go back and look at those rotations. They are nothing short of horrible. Dunn didn't go out and trade for those pitchers or make the lineups or be the reason we've had so many bad managers and bad drafts.

The thing about winning in pro sports is that the players will want new contracts. That is the last thing the Cubs ownership wants.
