this is a very common thing in south africa. they send beautiful blonde girl as a bait to UR hotel to attract U outside where U get kidnapped. The problem is that U R not certain to be released alive even if UR families pay 4 what they asked if ever U R able to recognize one of them which U will certainly be able to do (close contact with them 4 so many hours). Our govt believe that the kidnappers should be tried immediately once they get captured alive and be sent to the lions for dinner.

You are making a great point. Of course, we didn't live in fear of getting raped or have our wives, daughters, sisters kidnapped. However, we had issues in Herat like groups of thieves pulling up with their trucks and looting people. The education system sucked, we didn't have freedom of choice, religion, to live. Controlling every aspect of your life is miserable. Closing your shop 3 times a day to go and pray or beating up the women that didn't have a man with them was also unacceptable.

i never say talibans ware perfect but it is and it was much much much better then the now goverment and the warlord times .

They did stop you at checkpoints and ripped your car dashboard if you had a cassette playing a song. In Afghanistan, most of these regimes take advantage of the poor people. Why can't we be like other countries where people have freedom of choice. If the current government offers somewhat freedom but there is no real security, if the Taliban offered better security but there was absolutely no freedom of choice. I rather live with the current system and have a choice over my life to a degree.

That is a very sounding response, however; religion should be a personal choice not a government matter. A country or a civilization only and only steps towards success and stability when government and religion are separated. They simply should not be mixed. We also need to remember that not all residents are Muslims, basing the laws based on Sharia and Islamic laws can take away the rights of those that are not Muslims. We simply need Democracy free of all religions.

But supporting the Taliban was not a solution either because they supported terrorism... Afghanistan was moving backwards instead of forward. We can not stay within the same ideology as 1400 years or so go. The time has changed, the world has changed. Advancing is very important and mandatory for every society. Taliban did horrible things in that country. You can not simply ignore their wrong doings. Once again, religion should be a personal matter. The government should not be based on religion

@AYEMAQ listen my friend,i m agreed with ur point,that masood was not in favor US,bcz he knew US will kick him again after using him, it he were alive,us could kick him and his army by force,the point was that US army couldnt enter afg from other parts, so they found way from there, it was tough to beat taliban without buying northern alience.

Believed it or not, I did not know why I was a Muslim or why I believed in this religion until I left Afghanistan. Today, I know why I have the religion and why I am practicing it. No one is pushing me to praise Allah. I am free, it is my personal decision and I truly admire it and can see the beauty of this religion. When I was in Afghanistan, I was a kid and was forced to pray and read the Quran and I hated the religion but today it is my choice and personal responsibility.

No one wants to see this type of behavior flourish and continue. It is barbaric.

All the US can ever do in Afghanistan is fight and maybe defeat the Taliban. Other than that it cannot make the country stable or safe. War can never do that because it destabilizes countries. Only the Afghan people can make this work and make the country safe and stable. Believing otherwise is foolish and naive.

the afghan people's greed is getting the best of them, you can only expect so much when you feed millions and millions of dollars to a country newly stabilizing and not expect corruption in the government.

You can't generalize about all Afghan people. Most of them would like to live a normal, productive life that is free from violence and oppression.

But you are correct about the greed. A lot of the so-called leaders and warlords are more interested in making a profit from things like kidnapping, heroin production or just getting paid by the US to not fight against them rather than maintaining peace.
