I have seen with bare eyes someone who could pretend to sleep underwater, a lot of more minutes than the man in the film. He resurfaced just because they were about to go home. He was a kid in Wakatobi, but not a Bajau. Bajau is the sea gypsies tribe, you can find them in some countries, especially in Wakatobi, South East Sulawesi, Indonesia.
FYI these bajau people, they live in "less hospitable" world, u think they could afford to buy one bail out bottle and regulator? yeah rite... go and donate them one aleast...
I'm working offshore nearby Sabah, where these bajau people always come alongside our diving vessel and sell fresh grouper, lobster and mackarel for a damn cheap price, cheaper than u thought...
How crazy would that be if you were recreationally scuba diving, checking out the fish and suddenly he came walking by on the ocean floor with his spear?!?!?!?!

for anyone who saying it fake. stop watching disney and learn the world, this guy is a sea bajau people (pala'u). native tribe in indonesia and other archipelagos country in pacific... which mean they are tribe who living nomadic in remote islands in this archipelago. they are already in touch , familiar and trained with the ocean since they were a kid. their spirit attached to the sea. everyone here know bajau peoples is great diver and swimmer, they could conquer ocean with their harpoon....
It's nothing compared to free divers such as Nitsch, Nery or Trubridge. But it is freediving in it's most useful and basic and natural form. I love it.
@benyboy456789 Actually your will to breath will over power you and you will breath. That's why when people drown they have water in their lungs. Plus if that somehow didn't happen you would just pass out. Sorry
lol, there is no doubt that this guy lives in a 'less hospitable' world compared to those of us that comment on the video as it is. humans adapt to survive. he's adapted to diving deep to catch a fresh and tasty meal, we've adapted to having junk food delivered to our door.
there are incredibly stupid comments below.. Any healthy human can do this with the proper training. I am not saying its easy because it is not, at all. But its possible, most of the people have no idea that their physical capacity far exceeds what we expect.
@3DHeaven Try living on a remote island for your whole life, you can eat plants, but you'll need the protein that meat can give you. In order to get the protein: hunt.
Most grains have 70% more protein than any meat. Soya and beans have more protein than meats... Elephants are super large mammals and they eat just vegetables.... so . if u read the right stuff u will see how this is true.
@BlackAndThrash He doesn't just breathe in then hold his breath, he does something called "Packing" where you swallow the air you breathe, afer many times of doing this you'll be able to hold your breath much longer. See any free-divers videos.
@FliptopTwister if he knows about mechanical harpoons he probably knows about fishing rods. my guess is that the fish he's hunting live too deep for fishing rods.
My countrymen doing everything just to provide food for his family. I bet he only achieved this 'cause he needed to because of the lack of jobs and being seperated on land. Just goes to show what peole can do when push comes to shove. Proud to be filipino
Human dive reflex. We all have it. As soon as your face hits cold water your heartbeat slows and your body circulates less blood to the extremties, concentrating the most blood flow between the heart and brain, and lowering the total oxygen requirement of the body. Pretty awesome really.
@ssimon64 based on the video the water seems at normal enviromental temperature. Therefore, your statement would only be true if the water is freezing cold. That's when it causes a left shift in the hemoglobin dissociation curve. At hypothermia state is when your body will respond to what you have described.
Wow! This goes to show, that if there is zombie apocalypse, technology has stolen the ability of survival for modern men. How many people have we known that can actually dive 20 meters to get food? Amazing!
just goes to show how amazing man really is. theres hardly anything at all that we cant do.no place we cant go.and if theres something we cant do and a place we cant go today, tomorrow we will.
@ReasonorRage Due to escalated conflicts in their native Sulu Archipelago, and discrimination in the Philippines with regards to education and employment, most of the Bajau have migrated to neighboring Malaysia over the course of 50 years..They are NAtive Sulu people but pushed away by the civilized Filipino too sad huh...
Yeah, like u said holding your breath in it´s own is not the problem it´s the fact that u have to move and go so deep into the water that makes this so much more amazing!
@IncrediblyStupidName Well if you want to stay under water like this then you only need to learn to suppress the instinct to breath, the ninja of japan were trained to suppress the instinct
yeah man, the googles thing i cant understand why his eyes didnt blown up....and how he can swim so slow at the begining and still go down not even being vertical? cause he has no fat? (maybe speargun weight 10 kg? ) lol
and the time he spent to get the 20m depth in 35 s (not going vertical at all and slow..??)...doesnt seem enough!!
so many things i cant understand in this video....
wow. this made me anxious watching this. just the thought of me trying to do something like that is... wow. i could never. the human ability to adapt is incredible.
@MrEyeSea Try again after you have relaxed and gotten your pulse down to resting levels.
This guy is awesome though i can hold my breath a long time but my all my highscores worth anything are on land without any body movement. this guy swims and walks around for up to my own record resting in a bed.
This is quite an eye-opening series really.. I mean everyone compares animals to people. They run faster, fly, swim, hunt. But we all forget, so do we. Humans live on EVERY continent and have been to the Moon. And after seeing this, god knows whatrwe're capable of. Long live mankind!
@larz26 keep living in fantasy land, lol. this is amazing, but not the most bad ass thing you can do. BY FAR. this is just a awesome example of a amazing human.
@abyssal666nocturnus Whats so special about being able to drive a car around a track? Sure its dangerous, but its not exactly a great feat of physical prowess.
@femmeamor This is no doubt a amazing physical achievement. I can point out various reasons why formula driving requires physical capability as well, like operation under high g force, insanely fast reaction time, or even the fact that a driver can die instantly from hitting a wall at 200mph..I honestly would say this diver is way more capably fit, and also experiences a high risk level...the argument is really in the general definition of what it means to be a badass.
@abyssal666nocturnus And in my personal opinion, I think driving a formula car is more bad ass...this is no doubt amazing though....this man has lived his whole life adapting to this type of physical capability. Looking back, 40 times more bad ass was a overstatement...but I still think F1 is more badass ahah

The idea is not just how long you hold your breath it is also the idea of movement
I have seen a person who free dives to 20 meters to catch a fish in two mints and a half
The more you move deeper or release energy the less time you can hold your breath.
