  • oh my god...i had never heard about walter jackson, and i pride myself in knowing quite a bit about soul and funk. i only know this gorgeous song by charlene (whose version i still prefer...), but walter jackson is SO great...he's on my list now, thanks for posting!

  • "My mind won't remember but my heart will know, someone is where I'm supposed to be. Just a memory, that's what everything we have shared will have to be" Truer word have never been sung, if we could only go back to the time of that first real love and correct the mistakes we made that caused us to part. Would our love have survived? I guess for most of us, that's something we will never know. You only get to go back in the movies.

  • When I heard this song, I became teary eyes, and the memories was so vivid. For me, this is a true story. I lost this person in time long ago and never forgot him. I often wondered what might have been. That person will always be a special person and a part of me. My heart was too young to know then, but now I know.

  • Handy Man, Do you have 'Player in the Band'

  • thanks for posting, ive always loved all of mr. jacksons music rip.

  • Walter Jackson is one of the great ones

  • This man knows how to sing! Walter Jackson is indeed one of the greatest!

  • yes pghpookie you are right. i love this song. walter jacsonn is a great. i cannot find his song. Speak her name.

  • i love this song! i wish I could find Charlene's version, though....anyone know where it could be found?

  • This is simply a wonderful song. This song will always be around. Thanks for remembering Walter Jackson in song.

  • Music is simply not written and express the way it was express during Walter Jackson's time. This song is wonderful!

  • He inspired me before I got with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. My mother played his music all the time and took me to see him when I was 11 years old at the Washington Convention Center. I loved his voice.

  • One word: MAGNIFICENT.......

  • man i can relate to this song some of your best loves are the one you don't remember because it hurt so much but i'll tell you it builds character and tough skin my older sister turned me on to walter jackson back ion the late 60's when curtis mayfield wrote for him best cut welcome home

  • one of the best

  • Where has this song been all my life? I only recently discovered it, but I can't stop listening now! Everything about it, from delivery to arrangement, is pure class. This is definitely a song that deserves much wider exposure. If Walter had recorded nothing else but this, his place in the music pantheon would be assured. RIP, Walter my man. God bless you.

  • Walter did a version of my Funny Valentine-If ANYONE COULD FIND AND POST,

    I would be eternally grateful

  • What a voice. I have read that Walter died at a very young age (28 or 29?) by choking to death on a piece of meat in a restaurant across the street from the Chess studio in Chicago -- can anyone confirm that for me???

  • Calwhite, Walter died of a brain haemorrhage in 1983 aged 45.

  • @calwaite that's not true he died in 1983

  • Stunning....Beautiful.....Amazing.......Magnificent......This performance takes "beautiful music" to an entirely new level...........

  • That guy is my uncle. :) We've got his headshot in my Grandma Zeb's house.

  • For me I play this loudly to capture every note of this recording . it wraps me with so much vibe..thanks for the post..great instrumental back up

  • You can not mention sensational singers and dare leave out Walter Jackson! He was truly one of the greatest! Thank you Pghpookie! I wrote 2

songs you may want to post. "This Love Affair" by Gloria Gaynor & "This Love That I'm Giving You" by

The Joytones! Happy New Year, Pghpookie

  • Yeah Walter had that special unique tone that bring forth tears of Joy or pain, A tone that brings to mind for the individual, the clear picture of lost love and heartbreak or finding love that give us wings to fly!

BTW I play 'This Love affair' to people today in my sets and the just love it, respect to you!!

  • Thank you Birdmanbenjibeat, we are on the same page of excellent choices! God bless you!

  • yes indeed. two great songs!! thanks for stopping by, and commenting. and watch down the road for that joytones track. my best, pookie

  • I will flip out when you post my own song by The Joy-tones "This Love That I'm Giving You"

    Best always, Alvin

  • Alvin, why don't you post it??? Probably the same reason I don't post some of my collection, which is I have no idea how to do it.

  • That makes two of us! Plus, it doesn't seem right to post a song you wrote. And feels so great when someone else posts your song!

Thanks for the awesome compliment, Calwaite!

  • I have your Joytones' song, and if I knew how to post it, I'd do it for you. I've never heard "This Love Affair," so I'm gonna be looking for it in a minute on YT. I have about 5000 soul/R&B classics in my computer, and I have been making compilation cd's to give to my friends (well, mainly the women!) forever. Would love to send you a couple, so if you send me a mailing address in a personal note, I'll mail them to you...no charge ever, of course.

  • Alvin, you wrote the Joytones' monster hit?!? You are instantly one of my heros...a beautiful song, and love song writers are the most underappreciated people in all the world. The joy they bring to our lives makes the daily job bearable. My hat is off to you, and everyone who writes the songs that hit me in my heart and soul, and move my emotions.

  • for tycmalmed--you know who you are

  • I just love this song. A sumptuous arrangement to complement Walter's smooth and sensitive delivery. A real gem.

  • WOW....my mother got me into listening to his music. What a great voice.

  • Powerful..yet oh so smooth. Walter was on point and his music still makes me feel the same way it day back in the day when he first released this and many more. RIP Walter.....we won't forget loving you.

  • This song actually came out in 1978, because I will never forget the circumstances. I was in the tenth grade and it was at the end of a some what beautiful relationship with a young lady about to graduate from high school.

  • Wow wow wow. Rare in this times, why don't mariah cover this tune. Talking about sensuality ?

  • FYI..This man was often backed up by a full orchestra..unlike many artists in his time !!!

  • I Love everything about this Great Performer..RIP Walter.

  • for everyone that is going through it ...there is love on the other side ..turst me ..great great song :) tks

  • trust me even :))

  • Many people will have many loves over a lifetime. If they are lucky they will find that one love of their life or soul-mate. For some, if they lose that person for whatever reason, they will move on of course, but that person will always be in their heart. And they will sometime wonder what might have been.

  • This man was the Luther Vandross of the 70's and early 80's to me. What a VOICE. If we could hear song being play on the radio then maybe some of these so call today singers will get the ideal as to how to sing a good song with cursing calling each other out of their name.

  • one of the best voices ever to get in to your soul listen and appreciate. the man was awesome god bless his soul

  • I was a highschooler coming to the end of a relationship when this was out. Wow the memories. Life changes so much and so fast over the years.

  • God, every time I hear this, it's like I'm there all over again. "Making Love"(Roberta Flack)& "Even Now"(Barry Manilow) come in a close second....maybe when I've had enough time to grow, my mind won't remember but my heart will know when someone else is where I'm supposed to be you won't remember ever loving me..... Exscuse me, I have something in my eye........

  • like opening a present a Christmas, first time hearing this by Walter, thank you for the gift.

  • I had the honor and privilege of meeting this gentle man in Wash, DC at a record signing and later saw him perform in Chgo, IL and he was the same. Fantastic. His handicap stopped him from getting the recognition he deserved -- but you could not stop that "made for ballads" voice. You didn't need to see -- just listen. He conveys it all.

  • pooh bear

thanks for this play. i am trying to locate a play of his [Feelins] help a sista out someone please

  • I've uploaded Feelings. Check my videos.

  • pgh, all of the heartache came back on this one. Paulette and I have been divorced for three years and I found myself crying all over again. But, I needed it. It still hurts so bad. Maybe if more men would cry we would live a little longer. Thank you for helping me heal.

  • this song has such a strong emotional feel to it. it pulls you in different directions, so i hope it helped you. just like walter sings, 'my mind won't remember, but my heart will know'. haven't so many of us been there, and still are.

  • pookie, you hit me right in the heart with this one! I was gonna post it. Every time I hear this I HAVE TO stop what I'm doing. I've been there done this one, I feel his pain. As love slips away in time, and even the memo-ries fade, that old lonesome feelings some-times takes us by surprise and a smile shows as a tear drop falls. (This should be the Anthem for the National Alzheimer's Asso-ciation). I am forever in your debt, thank you so very much for this post, thank you, thank you, thankU!!!

  • Beautiful ballard! My high school sweeheart just found me after 35yrs. and said he would play this song whenever he thought of "us" over the years. "TRUE LOVE" stands the test of time!

  • Beautiful. Good Luck to you both. I'm so happy I posted this.

  • I'm so glad for you two. Thank God, sweety found you. Live well, live long, prosper!

  • @mwtcat7375 The same story for me! It was so emotional to see each other again after so many years after high school.. Walter Jackson was one of our favorites, and still is.
