  • rolling over in their graves

  • I'm pro colourization. Anyone who isn't is missing their common sense. The original black and white classics will still exist, and the colour appeals to a generation who can't get past the black and white, exposing great movies to a new audience.

  • NO. NOT IN COLOR, PLEASE.

  • "I'd like to announce I've given the a gift the whole world can appreciate, I've colorized the moon."

  • @corwinorr Haha, I don't really like Family Guy, but that line was genius.

  • HEATHENS DERP

  • Colorization ruins the director's original intentions.

  • WHY ARE THEY PLAYING THE SOUND OF MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND.

  • im gonna have to agree with those guys

  • BLASPHEMY! Black & white is the way to see it. Oddly, it loses something in colorization. Wrong, Wrong, WRONG!

  • While the actual colorization doesn't look half bad for the 1980s, the film doesn't look nearly as interesting in color. When you're watching it in black in white, it's more intriguing. Here it just looks very plastic.

  • gay

  • Who the FUCK colorized this? It's an abomination!

  • doesn't look romantic already.

  • It just doesn't look right...

  • I can deal with colorizing some things at times and to be honest it looks okay, but seriously movies like this and King Kong really suffer rather than profit from color. It's a Wonderful Life was okay too I guess but the fact remains that all these movies look better in b&w. It's weird to say but it actually shows more emotion and detail than color at times. Maybe it's because you're focusing more on the actors and story or something. It's just not the same in color because I'm distracted by it.

  • was it me or the music being played in the background is THE SOUND OF MUSIC SONG?????????????? Hahahaha! XD

  • @samsamsamjitp Yes It is!

  • @samsamsamjitp

I was going to say the same thing, LOL! (I'm more concerned about that than damned colorization!)

  • @dsmbear

I think the main concerns for this vid are the colorization issue and the misplaced background music.. haha!

  • When Orson Welles heard that Ted Turner, Turner Classic Movies, was going to colorized Citizen Kane this is what he said, "Keep Ted Turner and his goddamned Crayolas away from my movie"

  • Quel massacre, un vrai crime contre l'humanité !

  • awful colorized crap.

  • Here's lookin' at you, kid. The most epic, emotion packed line in all movie history.

  • FUCKIN RUSSIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh my lord. Colorized, dubbed, and with "The Sound of Music" soundtrack playing in the background? What a travesty.

  • it's just weird watching this in color. I love the color of Bergman's outfit, but yeah this should never be in anything but B&W.

  • This is AWFUL!!!!

    It's a Black & White movie.

The colorization has RUINED the cinematography, etc. It was filmed in B&W!!

Leave it alone and maintain it in B&W.

  • If a film is in black and white then LET IT BE !

  • Yeah, I just watched this for the first time last night in the original black and white, great movie. The black and white really lends to the 'mood' of it all and the shadows and expression etc.

  • What asshole's idea was this?

  • You can thank Ted Turner.

  • Black and white cinematography is an art form unto itself. You lose all of that when it's colorized. One thing that makes Casablanca a landmark film other than its dialogue is the cinematography. The contrast, shadows, etc...it's ruined in color. Just as many black and white films would be. Unfortunately, many in our culture are illiterate when it comes to film history and classic films. They think B & W is inferior. If so, how come the top two films ever were made in the 40s and are B & W?

  • I totally agree. I hate when people look at B&W films as if they were retarded or something. As if they didnt know how to make good movies. People think B&W movies were like an experimentation and then coloured movies were the 'real thing'. It's so not true. I'm 17 and I ADORE B&W movies, I think they were the best. This one, for example, is my fav movie of all time. And you're right, the two best films ever were in B&W and from the 40's (you're talking about Casablanca and Citizen Kane right?)

  • According to the American Film Institute, yes. Classic films are my favorite, though I'm not prejudiced against modern films either. I've got a few favorites of those as well.

  • TO GEVMM: Im 17 too and I love B&W movies. Loving B&W movies doesnt mean you are old fashioned or traditional or whatever

It's just that the best movies are in B&W ! :)

  • It is inferior in some . Lucky for us this is not one of those cases. But the film Rebel Without a Cause has a lot to thank from it's beautiful colorization.

  • Thank you Ted Turner, for colorising these films and utterly destroying them.

  • so that's what color her hair is! But don't color Casablanca, it's like Gone With The Wind AND The Wizard Of Oz in full black and white. No more ruby slippers. It just ruins it.

  • Casablanca in color is like Alice in Wonderland in black and white.

  • Why would they make a color version of Casablanca? It ruins the mood of the film. I'm sad now.

  • BLACK N WHITE!

  • This movie looks like shit in color lol. Plus it ruins the moodiness of all the shadows and stuff from the black and white version.

  • que esto???? no entiendo nada de nada, por que esta en color???? que alguien me lo explique ..

  • como es que esta en color?

  • Coloring Casablanca? What were they thinking!

  • I actually wouldn't mind watching this film in color! Is it in color on DVD?

  • Geze. This movie in color stinks

  • perchè è a colori?

e come mai, se è su rete 4, parlano inglese?

  • in inglese????

...sei un esperto di idiomi a quanto pare!!!!

  • I agree with what Bogart's son said: "If you're going to colorize Casablanca, why not put arms on the Venus de Milo?"

  • It's much better in black and white.

  • What is that incidental music?? "The sound of music"?? HUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHU

  • aaaaaaaaaaargh, the coloue aint too bad actually, still dam weird, but that language, oh pleeeeeeeeeeeease OFF OFF OOOOOOOOOOOFFFF!

  • Whoever colorized this movie should be shot.

  • twice

  • @midvalley9

    AGREE.

  • @midvalley9 its one of those movies that should always stay black and white

  • voices are terrible

  • Es mal en color

  • 1 star as it is in color

  • gana ams en blanco y negro

  • me gusta mas en blanco y negro..

  • Thank Dog this wasnt the original Aggggggggghhhhh

  • oh my yuck!

  • It sounds like Greek to me?? lol

    Thomas--Green Bay

  • Persian!

  • @Thomas2680 no it's Persian shit

  • 1. Can someone tell me why "The Sound of Music" is playing in the background?

    2. This takes away much of the cinematic genius, making it color. Though she's a beautiful woman all around, it's just not the same effect looking in Ilsa's face at the end. Some scenes in movies just aren't made for color.

  • 1. Hilarious! I suppose it's because of the dubbing, they couldn't find the original soundtrack sans the voices so they inserted a different music there.

    2. True; it's a crime.

  • What What Whaa What What are they saying

  • I don't mind colorization if it can be done right, but so far no-one has done it right.

  • What a travesty. The colour is like putting spaceships behind the Mona Lisa, the dubbing is like having William Shatner sing Mozart, and the Gone with the Wind music is like playing Funky Town at a funeral.

  • I mean The Sound of Music song. Jesus, I am out of my element.

  • colorization sucks

  • im not spansih but i saw Casablanca in color and i was appalled. the color ruins the cinematography some movies are not meant to be made in color

  • wow...this is awful.

  • en color? no, no no no no! no me gusta.

  • Buf, en color pierde gracia...

  • couldn't they at least put As Time goes by as the background music??

  • what kind of fucking language is this

    some barbarian beasts language

    sound like mooooooooooooo

  • AAHAHAHAH! MAN!!! HILARIUS!

Just imagine a barbarian beast speaking this shit.

  • @starsss2001 Farsi or Persian

  • fuck it

  • Wasnt the back ground music from "The Sound of Music"?

  • YEEEESSSS, jajajajaaj lolololooolll

  • lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ok, for some people is not the language, ok, then is the terrible (emotionless) voice acting and the fucking horrible, unfitting, background music

  • Not the colours are disturbing, but this terrible "language". It's disgusting! I'm happy about the fact, that this is not my mother's tongue...

  • SHUT THA FUCK UP FAGm this is language is Persian bitch, and since ur some rootless bitch, u don care about a 7000 year old civilization neither there language bitch motha

  • overreaction...!

lol i feel the same way when someone tries to take down china, a 10,000+ year old culture

  • I think the worst isn't the colour, is the languaje and background music that don't fit with the original emotions that the original film shows, there's no passion, there's no love, and when those flames are extinguished soul of the movie dies... in colour

  • YEAH shut tha fuck up, language is the ebst party mother fcuker

  • @persiansownyourface stop the vulgar talking, fanatic barbaric animal

  • I know it's already been mentioned...

but the colored version ruins it... ;)

  • I believe the color ruins this version. The black and white glossy hue of the original is the classic one that everyone should experience. The color is a distraction in my eyes, whereas the black and white makes sense of the character development and makes the world that they live in...dark but when SHE is around, it hurts him but he loves her at the same time. the light makes her look innocent, kind and most of all angelic.

  • has anyone noticed that the music in the background sounds like the music in The Sound of Music? weird...

  • The music in the background has added in dubbing to persian language (Iran) many years ago. I must add that it's dubbing is a masterpiece work (one of the best in Iran) but has some mistakes like this.

  • it's finally in color and it's in a different language!!!!!!

  • yup and it is Persian, enjoy!!

  • wow what fvcking is this?? jajaja a color mejor mentenmela, se grabo a color?

  • What language is this?

  • Color????????? oh man that broke my heart!

  • I liked it better in black and white.

  • yeah haha it's so weird xD

it's something about classic movies like these that deserve to be in black and white. it just fits with the time.

  • Precisely, there's a company that converts b&w movies to colour (the name's at the tip of my tongue). They use a new digital process, and they're extremely good at it. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch their version of "It's a Wonderful Life", it would spoil the warm feeling of nostalgia I feel when I watch it.

  • I've read that Humprey Bogart's son, Stephen, said about this:

"if you're going to colorize Casablanca, why not put arms on the Venus de Milo?"

    *LOL*

    He's got a point :P

  • en color no,es pecado.

  • casablanca en color por dios me va a explotar la ulcera

  • How did you get it in color?

  • There was a period in the 80s when there were quite a few analogue colour reprocesses of classic B&W films, but more recently there's been legendfilmsDOTnet that do an excellent, nearly seemless job.

  • Ok. Thnx.

  • One of the beautiful things about Casablanca is its Black & White cinematography

  • ...dieu est mort.

  • Its colourised... but thats not English... lol, I'll keep looking!

  • Colourized?! Urghh!

Not Casablanca - the black and white photography was part of the atmosphere...

  • The Sound of Music as BGM? What in the name of....

  • ostia vaya crimen, ¿como pones casablanca en color???

  • Wow I've never seen it colored before!

  • Even if I didn't speak English, I'd still rather watch this in black & white/non-dubbed.

  • Background music from the Sound of Musics? Colour picture? Dubbed?

    This is a travesty.

  • I agree. :[

  • Salughter and the dubbing does do make it better

  • here's why film noir has to stay film noir.

  • No... black & white only!

  • Wow, colorized and dubbed.

The version can't sink any lower...

  • I own it in color

  • i doesn't feel right....you know....it needs to be in black and white....

  • hmmmmm, casablanca belongs in black and white. But they have certainly done a good job colouring it.

  • Didn't even know there was a colour version.

  • I never seen the coloured in version before.

  • I like the black and white version better
