In the first minute this clip states that it has prevalence similar to left handedness. Not true. Most estimates for prevalence of psycopathy are 0.5% -> 1%. Left handedness is more like 10%. So you're a full order of magnitude out there.

Very good documentry - and I think I can answer my own question. No link between Aspergers and psychopaths. Yes they share one or two traits - but the way those traits manifest themselves is totally different. A psychopath doesn't care if he upsets you - an Aspergers sppears to not care - becuase they cannot read body language. If they realise they have upset you they change their behaviour to suit. A kind of secondry empathy based on analysis. Psycho doesn't have that.
I have been interested in pdychopathology (?) for a long time. I know this is controversial - but by definition - are most/all pstchopaths aspergers/high functioning autistitcs? I have faith, yet I do not subscribe to any modern religion. On another point, religion does not believe in evolution, whereas faith relies upon it.
@TheDj269 it appears from other studies, that the characteristics are common, yet not always manifest in ways of say a serial killer. It also depends on the things that happen to that person during their lifetime. A traumatic experience as a child will tip a person with psychopathic tendencies into a path of destruction. Without those life changing experiences, they will still become an overbearing control freak arsehole, you may have had them as a boss at some time. lol

what makes u think many of these people u show haven't just learned what works and what doesn't and remember many people have so many different facades (we all develop different one from our experiences of such situations and act accordingly to fit in or just rebel against it) can u be sure ur seeing the real them at any time. In my dealings with these people that is a perfect image. It really brought it hope to me when I thought about. You know one thing you left out though in defense and its probably the most important thing. Play it shallow when around these people. Conversation should never get deep they will use those cards later on. Play it shallow until your confident that they are not predators and let them do all the talking. Hopefully they will give you cards instead.

When you discussed the traits of narcissists, I thought of Judy Garland. I used to be a fan until I heard a Judy story. In the 60s when she lived in NYC, she had a young man as a personal assistant who got his parents to give him $40,000 because Judy couldn't afford to stay in her townhouse or support her kids. When he finally couldn't take anymore stress & abandoned her, she took a stuffed animal, covered it with blood & sent it to him in a hatbox. I'm no longer a fan, only an admirer.
@xander7ful I worked a little around the entertainment business, and it is cut throat, after all everyone wants to be rich and famous. Anyone with empathy and humility is going to get torn to pieces. Raging egos and full blown psychopaths are better suited to succeed in areas where artistic talent is secondary to the talent of pimping oneself out. Roughly 17 million Americans are socipathic, and about 3-1/2 million are psychopathic, although everyone has SOME psychopathic characteristics.

So for the purpose of the video I define psychopaths as being a of a single diagnosis with the differences seen between sociopaths, ASPD, HPD, et al, to be due to the differences in innate IQ, culture, and up-bringing.

The video fails to distinguish psychopathy from sociopathy--also the current APA DSM term is ASPD. You said that psychopaths are quite common. This is not true. Only about 1% of society are clinically defined as psychopaths, however about 5% are sociopaths. That's about 3 million and 15 million Americans respectively in each category. Unfortunately, these sick people tend to rise to the top in govt, corporations, churches, etc., for all the reasons given in this video. That part is accurate.

You are quoting Hare's statistical averages of 1% and 5 % but even Hare admits these may be on the conservative side. My personal experience is that the percentage is closer to 10%. This may include 'secondary' psychopaths, but without the ability to test everyone suspected of being a psychopath, to determine who is a genetic psychopath from a created psychopath, the true numbers will always be open to speculation.
@shaolinmountainbike I agree about the percentage. I also think of how 'secondary' Psychopaths are being created more frequently as the system we are in gets progressively worse. Also the statistics of the the Amount of those dying compared to those being born. @noobler9 the trick here is that many of the types of psychopaths is are actually completely different disorders, there might be just small differences, but they matter too those are not psychopaths, these are general groups of personality types that one might look out for

Sadly (or luckily) I grew up in a large household (7 siblings) with parents who were psychopathic. Somehow my genes were different and I saw what was happening at an early age. Ironically. ALL my siblings are now dead, 3 females and 4 males. ALL died due to their inability to deal with the horrors of our cruel upbringing.

I did 8 yrs prison once for various crimes,all involving the getting of $. The 1st thing i thought of when i was in max security was this place is full of psychopaths. Most of the murderers i got to know well all had the same trait, they were cruel to animals as children (some still as adults) and lacked total empathy for anything,especially humans. It may be that those who have no empathy, but do not enjoy causing suffering, are victims of other types of pathologies such as a form of autism, and so we could reserve the psychopath label solely for the malignant types.

One cannot fully appreciate how malevolent a psychopath can be until one comes into contact with one first hand. The owner of the last place I worked at had displayed every single element, from lack of conscience, zero empathy, superficiality, no appreciation and even casually throwing innocent people under the bus for HIS own mistakes.
One re-occuring theme I have noticed is that the psychopath's downfall always comes due to his own inflated arrogance.

@shaolinmountainbike I guess I'm a little more optimistic, with the increase in liquidity of information provided by the internet (such as this video), the more distributed and cheaper way that technology is proceeding, and the self correcting way of the scientific method which helps protect it from prolong corruption. That reminds me, I was reading the other day that they are proposing algorithms to detect psychopaths by the way they write. There may be multiple means to weed them out.

Very good documentry - and I think I can answer my own question. No link between Aspergers and psychopaths. Yes they share one or two traits - but the way those traits manifest themselves is totally different. A psychopath doesn't care if he upsets you - an Aspergers sppears to not care - becuase they cannot read body language. If they realise they have upset you they change their behaviour to suit. A kind of secondry empathy based on analysis. Psycho doesn't have that.

I have faith, yet I do not subscribe to any modern religion. On another point, religion does not believe in evolution, whereas faith relies upon it.

@TheDj269 it appears from other studies, that the characteristics are common, yet not always manifest in ways of say a serial killer. It also depends on the things that happen to that person during their lifetime. A traumatic experience as a child will tip a person with psychopathic tendencies into a path of destruction. Without those life changing experiences, they will still become an overbearing control freak arsehole, you may have had them as a boss at some time. lol

what makes u think many of these people u show haven't just learned what works and what doesn't and remember many people have so many different facades (we all develop different one from our experiences of such situations and act accordingly to fit in or just rebel against it) can u be sure ur seeing the real them at any time. In reality u can't. Some people want attention (that has many possible reasons for it existing in said way) and will act uncharacteristically just to make u approve.

In my dealings with these people that is a perfect image. It really brought it hope to me when I thought about. You know one thing you left out though in defense and its probably the most important thing. Play it shallow when around these people. Conversation should never get deep they will use those cards later on. Play it shallow until your confident that they are not predators and let them do all the talking. Hopefully they will give you cards instead.

When you discussed the traits of narcissists, I thought of Judy Garland. I used to be a fan until I heard a Judy story. In the 60s when she lived in NYC, she had a young man as a personal assistant who got his parents to give him $40,000 because Judy couldn't afford to stay in her townhouse or support her kids. When he finally couldn't take anymore stress & abandoned her, she took a stuffed animal, covered it with blood & sent it to him in a hatbox. I'm no longer a fan, only an admirer.

Raging egos and full blown psychopaths are better suited to succeed in areas where artistic talent is secondary to the talent of pimping oneself out. (cont) You really have the DSM lexicon mixed up @16:04. Psychopathy is a subset of sociopathy which is now classified as ASPD. All these illnesses are a subset of narcissism. Here you SHOULD use the term "psychopath" to describe these hardcore criminals, not sociopaths (ASPD), the latter term being too general. Also the math below is a little off. Roughly 17 million Americans are socipathic, and about 3-1/2 million are psychopathic, although everyone has SOME psychopathic characteristics.

So for the purpose of the video I define psychopaths as being a of a single diagnosis with the differences seen between sociopaths, ASPD, HPD, et al, to be due to the differences in innate IQ, culture, and up-bringing.
The sociopath is thus just a psychopath with a low IQ and/or from a lower class.

The video fails to distinguish psychopathy from sociopathy--also the current APA DSM term is ASPD. You said that psychopaths are quite common. This is not true. Only about 1% of society are clinically defined as psychopaths, however about 5% are sociopaths. That's about 3 million and 15 million Americans respectively in each category. Unfortunately, these sick people tend to rise to the top in govt, corporations, churches, etc., for all the reasons given in this video. That part is accurate.

You are quoting Hare's statistical averages of 1% and 5 % but even Hare admits these may be on the conservative side. My personal experience is that the percentage is closer to 10%. This may include 'secondary' psychopaths, but without the ability to test everyone suspected of being a psychopath, to determine who is a genetic psychopath from a created psychopath, the true numbers will always be open to speculation.

@noobler9 the trick here is that many of the types of psychopaths is are actually completely different disorders, there might be just small differences, but they matter too those are not psychopaths, these are general groups of personality types that one might look out for
but psychopaths they are not, by definition, the socio/psychopath is different
in short, what the video calls antisocial is the psychopath, all of the "different types" are under anti-social personality (disorder)

Sadly (or luckily) I grew up in a large household (7 siblings) with parents who were psychopathic. Somehow my genes were different and I saw what was happening at an early age. Ironically. ALL my siblings are now dead, 3 females and 4 males. ALL died due to their inability to deal with the horrors of our cruel upbringing.
The same thing is happening to the people of the US. Unable to deal with the reality of those who torture them and steal their work, they are imploding.

I had long ago came to the sad conclusion that it is the most undesirable people, the ones who lack compassion and honesty, that rise to the top of corporations and government. There are a few exceptions but they are either are fired or assassinated. There should be some sort of filter that reliably exposes these people before they're put in a position of power where they can do severe harm to their fellow beings.

I did 8 yrs prison once for various crimes,all involving the getting of $. The 1st thing i thought of when i was in max security was this place is full of psychopaths. Most of the murderers i got to know well all had the same trait, they were cruel to animals as children (some still as adults) and lacked total empathy for anything,especially humans. It just means that it is likely more difficult for them to treat others as they would want to be treated, since they do not have the emotions of empathy and regret to assist them. They have to rely on rationality alone (This does not excuse the ones that do cause suffering).
It is prejudiced to imply that all of those who are psychopaths will cause suffering.

It may be that those who have no empathy, but do not enjoy causing suffering, are victims of other types of pathologies such as a form of autism, and so we could reserve the psychopath label solely for the malignant types.

One cannot fully appreciate how malevolent a psychopath can be until one comes into contact with one first hand. The owner of the last place I worked at had displayed every single element, from lack of conscience, zero empathy, superficiality, no appreciation and even casually throwing innocent people under the bus for HIS own mistakes.
One re-occuring theme I have noticed is that the psychopath's downfall always comes due to his own inflated arrogance.

I did indeed target this information especially to younger, more naive, people in order to warn them a little of the dangers they will face, but everyone I hope can learn something, after all, it took me thirty years to figure these things out.

@shaolinmountainbike I guess I'm a little more optimistic, with the increase in liquidity of information provided by the internet (such as this video), the more distributed and cheaper way that technology is proceeding, and the self correcting way of the scientific method which helps protect it from prolong corruption. That reminds me, I was reading the other day that they are proposing algorithms to detect psychopaths by the way they write. There may be multiple means to weed them out.

The problem with this society (the real reason that the "occupiers" and doing what they are doing) is that is is dominated by psychopaths. Young people are confused, seeing that success in this society means becoming one of the psychopaths too and thus living a life that is not worth living. It's a painful choice, but some have the strength to leave the safety of the herd and become who they really are. Kudos to them. Eat shit and die to the psychopaths. They cannot enjoy what they have anyway!
