Saw them in Ottawa yesterday (Nov 15th 2008) where they played at Babylon"s in front of a crowd of about 30 PEOPLE (not kidding folks !). Yet they still gave it all they had to everyone's delight.
Never seen a drummer so powerful in all my life ! (It helped that I was standing 3 feet in front of him, I guess :-)
I doubt CyanideNight could make a better video. How much money do you have to dump into a video production? I would love to see what you come up with, shoot me an email, we could make a contest out it.
i don't have the money but i could make a better video. i could pull up a visual script that i made myself better than this. in my opinion it wouldn't be that hard. maybe its just frozenstateprod doesn't have enough imagination to connect with a camera. sorry, your loss...
This is my favorite songs by the Secret Machines, but this video sucks. I'm pretty sure I oculd make a better video, and that's actually saying somthing. Thier music has such creative lyrics and sound, it's a shame this video was a total waste of visual information.
this band had a pretty realized sound from the beginning. looking forward to the new album in october. anyone who disses them are probaly failed sound technicians...getting the live sound balanced in all the different concert halls is hard. i've seen them three times, and they were great all three times.
Secret Machines definitely beat Coheed and Cambria in every single way. For a trio, they have a huge sound, the songs are uptempo and progressive, and I personally think they are awesome.
You're such a blithering idiot that it's painful. People like you make such blanket statements on YouTube and it's utterly ridiculous. How about you take a minute and realize that while Secret Machines are very good, they are not anything special or innovative nor do they bring anything completely unique to the table. You rant about real musicianship when that's such a subjective statement that the argument can be made that you have never heard 'real musicianship'. You're such a waste.
Dude...I went to the coheed concert at the HOBs in Orlando... and The Secret Machines weren't that bad.... they were no Coheed...but they certainly didn't suck
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
went to a concert recently, and they were one of the first two bands. Some people had their hands over their ears and some were booing. You couldn't hear the guys voice well, which didn't sound that good, and they just kept playing the same thing over and over and then over again except faster which actually made it sound worse.
I'd written back then that I was pretty confident that I'd seen the band at the top of their game. It was a phenomenal experience if you were lucky enough to see it.
About two years later, I saw them on the In the Round tour where they brought their own circular stage. It wasn't as cool but still very good.
I saw them about two weeks ago opening for Coheed... completely awful. I tried to get my money back, I was so pissed. It sounded terrible, the song choices sucked. Horrendous experience.
I've seen the Secret Machines live four different times. The first time was four years at a Coachella. I saw them twice shortly after that on a tour where they co-headlined a tour with Kings of Leon. All three of these times they were amazing. They had a breathtaking light show put together by a guy who had done work with Phish, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd and, heh, Britney Spears!
I'll commend them for having talent enough to make decent studio recorded tracks, but wow were they rejected live. I've never seen an entire venue full of people simultaneously stick their noses up at a group before. I felt really bad, I mean, not everyone can play the guitar, the drums, sing, whatever, but I think if their set up was better and their mic was louder and they made the ends of sets more clear, their live stuff would be more enjoyable.
I saw these guys live a few days ago. I don't think they're a bad band, but they just didn't transfer any personality to their live show. The live sound is totally different than this studio recording. The drums dominated everything, and the vocals were barely audible. I don't mind bands like this, heavy beat stuff, kinda reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age, but I just could not get anything from the songs live.
these guys suck so bad. they didnt even have time to get their aplause at the end of their show in New Mexico cause they were boo'ed off and for good reason, i have never hated a band live so much. just stop playing all of you suck so bad
Their first EP and album are wonderful but I've heard sooooo many bad things about Secret Machines live. They couldn't be any worse than Calla whose leadsinger had to apologize for sucking in Y'Bor a few years ago ("sorry for all the feedback"/suckage).
That said, I think I'd rather stab myself in the dick repeatedly than see Calla again.
Coheed sucks............Oh wait they can totally burst with individuality, like all their generic riffs, castrated ten year old boy voice, and less than exciting shows..................Can Coheed, if truley skilled, do anything that Don Caballero has?
Coheed should be opening for THEM! actually, they shouldn't. Coheed isn't good enough for that. Boring emo crap? You're an idiot. Coheed is so so whiney, I can't stand the fag's voice. Secret Machines are the shit so shut up, you're all just jealous that your precious little Coheed isn't as good as these guys. And if you disagree, you obviously don't own any Machines albums, they have tons more talent than any other act out right now.
that's because Coheed fans are a bunch of unevolved idiots who have never heard, much less seen, REAL musicianship, not a gimmicky pretend band who will not be around in a year's time...Secret Machines are 10 years strong now and better than ever.
bullshit dude. go see these fuckers live, they are terrible. i agree with the people below me, their recorded tracks sound decent but they are not a balanced band live. the drums overpowered everything and the singer sounded like a doushebag. i have never seen a band so rejected and booed off stage so fast. they need to get their shit together
does anybody thats disrespecting these guys even know what they're talking about? obviously not. none of their songs sound the same, you must be deaf. And if you think that they're riffs are so unoriginal or so repetitive, then I challenge you to take up an instrument and start your own band and do better. This band is amazing, they're style is unique and strong, and anyone that says otherwise probably wouldn't know good music if it slapped him in the face with a big wet fish.
This band sounds nothing like this live. I don't know how they got on tour with Coheed. Maybe they're friends or something, but they shouldn't be on this tour. Just to prove my point, the last song of their set consisted of them playing the same five notes for 15 God damn Minutes! There were no vocals, not even a varying drumbeat to take away from the mundaneness of their already terrible set. recordings don't make a band, performances make the band. and this is a terrible band.
it made me mad they were booed off. all though i didnt like them its no reason to disrespect them like that im sad to be associate with them by being a coheed fan also
This is from my favourite rock album the last few years. Remember being initially disappointed with it, but after a while it grew to a monster. I guess this is one of the more straightforward songs, but I love it. I like they blend a lot of influences (I can hear Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Krautrock, Radiohead and even U2 in their songs) into their own distinct sound.
Maybe everyone should get over how "non-complex" it is. It still is a million times better than the other mainstream horseshit going on at the time. Sometimes LESS IS MORE.
perhaps i dont get this, but i really do not think this is good. i checked this band after hearing autolux and heariong some1 say they are good, but the singers voice and lack of originality in the riffs turned me away. sorry.
Sigh.. They sure did not belong at Sled Island this year. For one thing they were ridiculously boring live, playing the same riff time after time again with ridiculously terrible drumming. Every song seemed the same and the set lasted far too long. The whole crowd got lost and I saw tons of festival-goers turn to their books. As an added bonus I know people who drummed better in grade 4. Whatever, a good excuse to go eat lunch.
If you know people who were better drummers in grade four, then why are their bands not signed to a record label and touring the country with Coheed and Cambria or playing shows like Rothbury, or opening for Radiohead? Oh thats right, I forgot... its because you're over exaggerating and making things up like everyone else on YouTube. You should explore musical theory and try to get an ear from something other than The Ramones or whatever ridiculous shitty music you probably listen to.
yeah i heard so, but i also heard a few weeks ago that they may be getting something together again with interpol's session keys guy ... whoi knows...

This is one of the best songs ever. It is so refreshing and terrific. I gladly give this song an A+. My favorite part is when he says "There's a woman in the mirror in a fiery state as she motions to me I start pulling away."
