  • Thanks alot! I can finally make lightsaber videos. I'm giving you a shoutout. :)

  • Great tutor, man! For more realistic look of the saber I suggest to change the color of the sharpest clip (the one on the 4th track) into brighter, up to white. Also the vertical scale of the sharpest image should be slightly less than the others. That way you dont have to crop the image and the saber looks like it's real.

  • or you could just google "lightsaber black background" and screen it out then keyframe it

  • your intro sucks no offense but great tutorial really helped me!! THUMBS UP FROM ME!!!!

  • your intro sucks no offence

  • Sooo, my tv production teacher gave us 2 days to film and is giving us 2 days to edit...(45 minute class) aaand im gunna do this and make a lightsaber video and shes gunna freak out since the time before this one it did a photo compilation with music in the backgroundXD

  • how come my final cut express 4.0 has no color solid, only color?

  • @computerf100 Read the manual it will probably help. :)

  • so here's the basics with the rest being detail for use.

    4 sticks

mask shape - high vertical, low horizontal

causation blur - (top stick) low blur, (bottom 3 sticks) high blur (gradual drop)

those are the basics with the levels of shape and blur being flexible.

  • Thank you! I've made one and it works perfectly! A sub from me!

  • Hi i don't have the matte option, is this normal??????? I have final cut express 4.

What do i have to do to get it.

    Thank's

  • How do you combine the multiple clips to one so you dont have to move around all the clips every frame?

  • Thank you, very clear.

  • o and how do you make it move when u do da turn on effect

  • Awesome tutorial man! Thanks a lot! Really helpful

  • I recommend making the top layer a slight ( and i mean slight ) tint of green so it looks nicer.

  • dude how do i get the crop tool? short cut?

  • thanks this is really great

  • Tip:

At 3:34, experiment by entering a different color for each layer. You can get some really neat effects just by making them slightly different colors, or completely opposite. Try it out.

  • I just wanted to thank you for this post. I teach a video class and this was probably the easiest tutorial I've come across for this effect. I think it'll make some students very happy on Monday!! Great job!

  • under matte in final cut pro it only says color

  • This is Final cut express.

  • it worked for a second, but then stopped again. this program is friggin pissing me off!

somebody please explain to me how you change the sizes and colors of each color solid copy without changing all four simultaneously....

  • you can change each one individually as long as multiple clips are not selected

  • here's what I don't get. i've got four copies of the color solid thing, but when I change the blur on one it changes on all of them. how do you do it separately?

  • Very well done. Way to know your stuff!

  • Make sure you don't have "Linked Selection" checked under the "edit" section.

  • sound is awful you need to speak up

  • sound is fine on my end try turning ur volume up

  • @Dnoman56 no it is pretty quiet

  • how come i get a yellow line above my white color solid? how did you get the black and white boxes in both the viewer and the canvas?

  • Hey, I have a question, How come when i drag it to the timeline, the glow kinda dims down on it?

  • hey and how do i do that smooth motion of he saber?

i can put a minimum sensitive movement blur?

  • What do I save this file as to import into my other movies?

  • ok, i tried this, and i dont have 2nd gaussian blur. tried ur other method for 1st gaussian blur. dowesnt work. what do i do?

  • mess around with the directional blur instead. That works for me.

  • If you dont have that gaussian blur, you can always use "edge feathering" under the motion controls (under "crop"). its not wuite perfectly round, but the edges look rounder and more of the shape youre trying to go for.

  • So how do you transfer this lightsaber to another video?

  • you can take a picture of it with Shift Command 4

  • @Dnoman56 or save it and export as quicktime video.

  • when you make a sequence as he told you right click it

then go to export and in that use quicktime conversion

then save it as a still image

  • thanks this will help me out alot i just made a green saber

    next for the keyframing

eventhough i can pretty much already keyframe

  • nice vid, HOW SICK SI FINAL CUT EXPRESS

  • thank you so much

  • ok ill wait for it

  • i dont have 2nd gaussian blur and i did what u said to philliplolklm and it still doesnt make that round shape that is a lightsaber

  • i have final cut express 4, and it doesn't have a 2nd Gaussian blur, and i get lost after that

  • Greattt tutorial buddy. I just am having trouble with adding it to my bin. I have tried double clicking and all that, but it does not want to work.... (if you dont understand what I'm talking about its at... 5:37 . Thanks for your help!

  • P.S. It always just wants to drag the white core thing, other than pasting it into the bin. Thanks!

  • I swear Final Cut Express has terrible lightsaber effects. Adobe after effects seems to work the best, even though I am a huge Apple fan

  • yah, i agree. after effects seems to combine the final cut studio programs into a better, more efficient program

  • Thanks a lot for posting this!

  • Well I tried it and it didn't work. Its the part when you going through the menu options.

  • did you DOUBLE click the lightsaber first?

  • Oh oops all try that lol

  • Ok this DOSE NOT work.

  • thanks for uploading this

  • no prob

  • cool i am the fist views
