My father took me and my older sister to see this movie when I was eight years old. We saw this movie as part of a double feature with a movie called Skyjack. Good times!!
I used to see this movie on TV lots of times. Came out the same year I was born. But Raquel Welch, I'd tap her in a hot second even though she's 70 now, and still looking good - her and Julie Newmar both I'd like to make out with!
The two best things about "Kansas City Bomber" are Raquel Welch's hot body in her Number 11 skating uniform(too bad she wasn't bra-less;that luscious Latin lady had a pair!!!!)and the fact that Kevin McCarthy, who played the team owner,Mr. Henry, pursued Raquel and
studded her,as LOTS of lads in '72(ESPECIALLY THIS ONE!!!!)wished they'd have been able to do.
This movie came out when i was 11 years old. I loved this movie. Los Angeles Thunderbirds, (T-Birds) was my roller derby team. I love Raquel Welch. Have you seen her lately? She's still as beautiful and sexy as ever. I think I'm gonna request this movie from NETFLIX and watch it again for old time sake.
@eastlachicano I remember the T-birds. I also rmember Ronny psycho Raines, and how about 747, she was something. What about the manager John Hall. I do remember those days well. I was just 10 years old.
@Sarasdad91 I started skating right when this came out so I missed my chance to be in the movie since it was filmed about a year before it hit the theaters. At least I got to meet and work with alot of the skaters in the film.
I was in this movie - In May '72, at the Portland Expo Center, I stood in the end row of a small audience during the scene where the skater gets a cup of water thrown in his face. Next the camera panned along the side of the crowd as we threw trash at the same guy in the rink shaking his fist at us- It was like playing a game - lots of fun! I remember the camera (panaflex) equipment sliding by was so distracting while shooting. It took about 2 hours to film 10-15 seconds of the scene.
I also was in the stands. I was so excited to go at 20 years old. And then it was a long boring day. But when the movie came out, it was exciting, nothing like the long day in the old drafty Cow Barn. I briefly show up in the movie. My "fifteen minutes" of fame.
Very Good if you're into sports. Raquel Welch really put everything into this role. Good cast. She looked beter then ever and I didn't realize how phyical this part was. Raquel even snapped a wrist but still made the major magizine covers for this film.
Helena Kalianotes was actually nominated for a Golden Globe as Jackie. Such an underrated actress. People forget that she's one of the women at the diner table when Jack clears it in "Five Easy Pieces." "KCB" is actually a really good flick.

I saw "Kansas City Bomber " at the Riversdie Theatre @ West 96th Street in NYC. The theatre is long since gone, but KCB ran there for about 2 months.

Really good movie. Holds up to "The Wrestler" in my opinion. Same topic, different sport.

Patti Canvin aka Big Bertha Bagolini was a real roller derby skater with the Western Renegades.
Judy Arnold did some of Raquel Welch stunts. Kansas City Bomber was my introduction to Raquel Welch. I love Roller Derby and Raquel Welch.

It's popular as a sport now, it was popular as a spectacle back then.
