  • I am sorry that you broke your metacarpal? If you severely fracture a finger do you get a cast? I broke my tibia and I got a cast. I didn't have surgery but the break was bad.

  • @080594M127 Mine was a break of a bone in the hand between the wrist and the pinkie finger. If you break a finger bone (one of the phalanges) you'll likely get a splint. They do the same as a cast, immobilizing the bone to let it heal.

My understanding is that casts are to immobilize bones that can be effected by torsion of muscles and tendons. Because finger and foot bones are so small, muscles don't move them as much.

  • @Doccerz Well right that is the metacarpal. Lets say you shatter a phalange and need pins and surgery, will they then cast it, how about a thumb?

  • i punched someone in the head and i think i fractured my pinky metacarpal. it swelled pretty bad and bruised the palm of my hand, but it didnt break the skin. i didnt go to the doctor. if i hit a boxing heavy bag straight on its okay but now the side of my hand is very sensitive after about 2 months. what do you think.

  • @WroughtDeathVids I think if you haven't lost any range of motion you don't have tendon damage. You very easily could have fractured the metacarpal without snapping it (which would cause droop and weakness in your hand altogether).

    X-ray's your friend.

  • @Doccerz yeah i have full range of motion, its just still sensitive on the side, and if i rub the side, theres a knot there that isnt on the other hand.

  • i guess i have this too but im not sure so... what i did was i punch my refrigerator really hard it hurted for a second on impact but when i looked at my right hand it had a big lump on the back of it near the pinky finger area. i thought it was just a big knott thinking that it would go away buy it has been two weeks and it just shrunk a liittle bit. do you know when or if it goes away completely?

  • You really need to get an x-ray.

  • I punched a closed today and it hurt a lot, after a few minutes it swelled and tommorow I think I`ll get an X-ray... I hope nothing happened, I don`t want a broken bone...again
