We should not have been made privy to the conversations between him and Oksana in the first place. We all have a dark side and his is pretty ugly. He is tremendously talented, but even without the tapes being leaked he has proven himself to be an asshole, anti-semite, and people being willing to overlook him striking the mother of his child while she was holding her a big deal. Talent doesn't give you a pass when you screw up. You reap what you sow.

Im guessing forgive him for the threats he gave to Oksana, if that is her name. People obviously gave Mel a hard time for saying those words. Robert told everyone to forgive him as when Robert was being arrested multiple times with drug charges Mel stood up for him and was always there for him, so in return he said everyone should forgive him...

And he is not a wife beater. He has problems with alcohol and is manic-depressive. Alcohol + manic-depression = anger management problems.
And "Braveheart," "Passion of the Christ," "Apocalypto," and "The Beaver" more than makes up for whatever he has been accused of doing.
