It's just Pete's way of saying "Yes i know i fucked some stuff up and caused problems, but now i've changed and i'm so much more than the guy i used to be." It's a damn shame that Pete passed away because he had just got his shit back together and was really doing great things. RIP Pete
I was recently looking up TON for some new info and I was absolutely shattered when I found about Pete (RIP), I started crying! He was such a legend, a gorgeous, talented and a very complex musician. @jay6666696 I don't know....back in the late 90's when I was really into Type-O, most of the people I knew who listened to Type-O weren't that different then the emo kids of today. They were still whiny kids back then who instead of "Twlight" were Anne Rice devotees...until she became a born-again fundy. They dressed all in black and smoked clove cigarretes as well. But musically, I agree that Type-O definitely is nothing like what is usually categorized as "emo" music today.

I just called them "Gothic Metal". Much simpler then all these wierd labels. They inspired me to write music in a similar genre. It's a shame there are not many bands that do this type of music anymore with the big deep operatic vocals mixed with metal for that lovely dark majestic sound.
@wigon Again, with the wierd labels. Progressive rock has blistering leads & is a well established label for rock genres. Type-O has no such lead guitar. Where did you get this label from? I call it Gothic metal because 1. It's dark and depressing sounding and 2. cuz it has heavy guitars and lots of palm-muted "chugging" which is a hallmark of "metal". But hey it's cool, whatever label makes ya happy.

@lordjdog No, I'm not pissed off. It's just that "heavy metal" is a very broad term. People call everything from Black Sabbath to Slayer "heavy metal". Sure it's a type of heavy metal, I'd agree with that. But their music is also a very unique sub-genre of metal. Rock is an even more general term and of coarse heavy metal is the heaviest although within that genre you have the sub-genre of "death metal" which is probably the heaviest type of heavy metal.

@jay6666696 I don't know....back in the late 90's when I was really into Type-O, most of the people I knew who listened to Type-O weren't that different then the emo kids of today. They were still whiny kids back then who instead of "Twlight" were Anne Rice devotees...until she became a born-again fundy. They dressed all in black and smoked clove cigarretes as well. But musically, I agree that Type-O definitely is nothing like what is usually categorized as "emo" music today.

Thanks for your input. With that being said though, dressing in black was considered goth before it was emo.... Emo just gave the color black and cloves a bad name. lol. Thus I consider Type O more of a goth metal/rock genre. I remember fondly back in 1999 or so I wore all black to school and was bugged for being a vampire all day lol.Between listening to type o and dressing in black back in the 90's I was called a goth not emo. Emo just took a great thing and ruined it lol...

The man had a private life beyond the band! Us addicts are good at hiding shit until it takes us. I have no doubt that Peter showed up for sessions able and ready to go. I may get some shit about this but Pete's face was a shadow of what it once was. His teeth were all jacked up which leads me to believe he was on Meth. I know the uber TON fans will attack me for saying this but who cares! Meth killed Peter Steele! And BS to all of you that say he was clean! That's BS!

This a classic heavy metal song. Heavy, deep, mystical, intelligent with a dose of the dark side of religion. Sabbath could not done any better!
The song is well written and orchestrated by a metal superstar.. It is about Rasputin. The poisoned wine, the girl, the rug, the gun ... read some Russian history and it will make better sense.
Gonna miss Peter - he was a genius.

Hey. If anyone gets a chance would they mind checking this out. I can't for the life of me figure out who this band is. Sounds like Phil on vocals. Not sure it's Dimebag on guitar though. If its a Down/Pantera/Superjoint Ritual song I haven't heard it before. Type O on their tour bus getting up to the kind of shit only they can, song in background at 41 seconds until about 1.23 with a couple of breaks in between. Thanks. Youtube is being shit so: video is Type O Negative behind the scenes.

I just called them "Gothic Metal". Much simpler then all these wierd labels. They inspired me to write music in a similar genre. It's a shame there are not many bands that do this type of music anymore with the big deep operatic vocals mixed with metal for that lovely dark majestic sound.

@wigon Again, with the wierd labels. Progressive rock has blistering leads & is a well established label for rock genres. Type-O has no such lead guitar. Where did you get this label from? I call it Gothic metal because 1. It's dark and depressing sounding and 2. cuz it has heavy guitars and lots of palm-muted "chugging" which is a hallmark of "metal". But hey it's cool, whatever label makes ya happy.

@lordjdog No, I'm not pissed off. It's just that "heavy metal" is a very broad term. People call everything from Black Sabbath to Slayer "heavy metal". Sure it's a type of heavy metal, I'd agree with that. But their music is also a very unique sub-genre of metal. Rock is an even more general term and of coarse heavy metal is the heaviest although within that genre you have the sub-genre of "death metal" which is probably the heaviest type of heavy metal.

PS: @lostboysatan you cant categorize Type O Negative, to try and pigeon hole them in any genre is a mistake, they are influenced by a very wide range of sources (read this in a metal magazine interview with Type O Negative), but theyre definitely not emo...
