Hi. At 88mph,our W115s run above 4000rpm; I guessing maybe 4500rpm at 88mph. I'm not sure what final drive ratio he has on his car;either a 3.69 or 3.92 or 4.08. My 200 has a 3.69 final drive and the factory specs states that the engine runs at approx. 3100 rpm at 100kmh(62mph). These original MB engines are designed to run fine at higher revs(expressway speed),provided the engine is well-maintained. Factory top speed for W115 200 = 99mph.
W114/115 is a GREAT car ...i owned a 250 i remember back in 2000 i drove the car for more than 600 km at steady 170km/h only stopping for fuel with actually no problem at all .....this car is very reliable
@ConCordyou damn.. what was the revs at that speed? and how fast did the gear ratio go? must´ve been almost top speed? i know my w123 240D can do 140-150km/h which is really fast but I've never dared going past 125km/h. although its a big difference between our cars. great cars! :)
Hi. Well,if it was 88mph,you were going at 142kmh , not 160kmh(=99mph).
I also drive a W115,a 1972 200 with the ventilator-glass,ivory steering,flat-lens tail-lights,etc. Right now the car's still under 'restoration works' ; it has been going on for 5 years now !
I enjoy driving the ol' boy very much ; I once took it up to 85mph on the expressway, back in late 2005.
I hope to get the car back on the road in a few months time and continue to enjoy driving it, :-) !
I'm the driver (and the owner) of the car. the car is a 1975 W115 200 (Petrol) with 4 speed transmission. It's a daily runner. Bought in 2008 as a daily classic.
benzyap : thanks. the car is a daily driver. the interior is original [bamboo MB-Tex] except the radio.
fandangofreddie : yup 110KMH is the limit, but sometimes we tend to break the rulez...for a 35 year old car, cruising at 80-90mph steadily, it something to talk about. most cars this old won't do this anymore....

@fardell oh i see... what are going to do to the car next??? Make it looks new? Im planning to buy my late uncle's Mercedes benz sel300 petrol 6 cylinder inline(w126)... Seems the car is very good, strong, that why I interested with it... The engine is very smooth...
hi bang your car very nice and looks like ori seat and no crack dashboard i coming from penang also benz fans pls keep your car as original. Not easy to find out nice car. Or you want to sale out your cal pls tell me.
hehehehe yes......it is in mph....and the car still cruise without problems. even those in japanese cars even turn their sight to see this classic merc overtook their cars....
Yay.........great car, hard to find the perfect conditions though......BTW, is the speedometer in MPH? if that is you need to slow down.....Malaysian speed limit is 110KMH max dude.
I have driven this before and the feel to have three pointed star in front of our car is a great sense of security and stability. Go Merc!
