well it can look a lot more professional than that. :S his ring got warped and that's not how it's "supposed" to look. it only warps and gets all wonky in shape when you hammer too hard. so don't get impatient- easy with the hammer!!!! and if you do that it should turn out looking like a proper ring. :P
im pretty sure its legal. its your property. i bought a penny cuff back in the day made of pennies welded together and i asked the same question. they said its my property and i can do whAT I want with is. i just cant use it as money anymore.. duh:)
umm...i actually watched this video cause i thought you were going to keep the design on the coin on the actual ring. instead you drilled out the best part
no it's not illegal, the only time it would be illegal is if you deface the currency in an attempt to defraud someone. like say for instance; you tried to make a nickle look like a quarter. it is not illegal to do this because it is your property, you simply forfeit the ability to spend it. plus the silver is worth more then 25 cents now anyway and they are no longer in circulation.
I used a spoon. worked out way better. small "dings" vs. hammer sized. only took about 4 days (in spare time of course). Take ur time for precision...
@epohnopulse no i do, its more personal and interesting and you would get a sense of accomplishment making it for yourself, but since i have a job and i earn money, buying a well made. professional, beautiful, interesting piece of craftsmanship just becomes more appealing
I am making one from a one dollar coin (1927) a lot more tapping but it is better if you are a man with very large fingers - also the finished ring is wider and heavier- I will let you know how it turns out.
But, if they were taking videos from other people, I feel they are definitely explaining them a whole lot better. So, if you're not uploading any videos of your own, lay off.
Well, would it not be easier to use a mould and melt the metal into there with a blow torch, after doing so a light hammering to finish off the shape and smooth it out a bit?
well i desided to start over, becuase i actually have alot of these things, and the new one came out perfect! its not warped at all, and the constant movement of your fingers and the spreading of the metal gives it a gleeming shine. i love it its just perfect. but... i droped it in my car and still havent been able to find it!! ):
well i used a regualr old hammer youd normally use for nails and as an anvil i used a barbel wieght. it took like two weeks maybe a total of five or six hours.
I warped a coin that had copper in it because it was made in 1974, I crimped it faster than he explains in the video for the higher silver content ones....hmmmm

ok, i made two, but the dremel head wont fit in the drill whole?? what do i do?!?
frizzlefochizzle 2 years ago
use a larger drill bit to make the hole bigger or press the drill bit against the edges of the hole you've already made to make it bigger
Tasteslikeliberty 2 years ago
is there a way to do this without using a drill???

AVerbene 2 years ago
is a silver quarter harder or softer than a newer copper quarter

i am useing a 2000 quarter and its turning out all grose looking. its not shiny like yours
talktoomuchshit 2 years ago
newer quarters contain copper, thus mabye the "grose looking, less shinyish"
warus05 2 years ago
and maybe harder and not ring material
stinkyhamster111 2 years ago
@talktoomuchshit : That's because it's made of copper and nickel, not silver like the coins used in the video.

There are two kinds of channels on youtube. There are those who are original, and those who take the content of others.
This is one which takes the content of others.
Rocketboom in my opinion should make their own damn videos with their own ORIGINAL ideas.

Try using a wooden block to prevent the warping. I'm working on a half-dollar ring and I've found that a heavy tablespoon works really well.
ZachWalters2008 4 years ago 2
cool vid yes you rushed it and hit it to hard a better way to clear the center than a drill bit is a unibit then go to the dremel.
