  • If only.

  • It seems that the more modern Robotnik got the more pathetic he got as well. Only during some boss fights with him namely the final ones does he get serious such as Egg Dragoon. Otherwise Robotnik is just too silly and stupid. I miss the old Robotnik from the days when Sonic games were on their own consoles. He was very evil back then especially in Sonic CD. At least they are starting to make him the final boss of games again instead of generic FF reject villains so that's an improvement.

  • @jmario232 I know, thats exactly what i'm saying! He should be more of a villian then a joke. I liked him best in the movie and Sonic Sat. A.M. because, in the movie he reminded me of The Joker, he was an evil maniac, but still was a bit comiedic, but in Sonic Sat. A.M. he reminded me more of Darth Vader, he was an evil villian and thats all there was to it.

  • @Wolfgang01011

Vader? Nah I really would not say Vader if you are comparing him to a Star Wars villain because Vader was more of a good guy who was moved in the wrong direction but in the end became good again. Robotnik was just pure evil and posed as a warlord to get on good terms with King Max so he can unsurp the throne and take over Mobius which he did. Sonic was not trying to save the planet. He was trying to liberate it from Robotnik's tyranny.

  • @jmario232 You'er right, Emporer Palputeen would be more like Robotnic in Sat. A.M. I thought of Vader though because Vader is always killing off his men left and right like Robotnic is constantly threatning to do to Snivily and theres always the whole "Hes more mechine than man" thing. That would make Sonic Luke, right, but if he were Luke, who would Sally, Rooter, Tails, and Ainton be? Anyways, if Robotnic from the movie were the Joker, Sonic would be the god damn Batman, Right? HNY

  • @jmario232 and yes my questions are pritty serious. I realy wish they keept the plot of the show for the games, the villian was much better, and honestly I would like to turn on my PlayStation 3, put my new werehog free Sonic game, and hear that classic theme song "Blue streek speeds by, Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic he can realy move. Sonic hes got an attitude. Sonic he is the fastest thing alive." burst through my speakers, but unfortianately, that may never happen, but it'd be cool!

  • @Wolfgang01011 and Sonic nowdays is too much of a mary sue character, having almost no weaknesses or ever being in any real danger, where as Sonic in Sonic Sat. A.M. would offten end up in danger of being killed or worse, Sonic accuialy had a reason to fight Robotnic, where as nowdays Robotnic or Egghead or whatever the hell i'm sappost to call him now is not even threatning enough to fight seriously, and Sonic was the best of the best and knew it, wich makes him that much more epic, like Vegeta

  • @Wolfgang01011 Sonic is afraid of water, he is sometimes brash with others feelings, and he is shy around teenage girls (Amy, Elise, and Sir Pervival) he's nothing like a Mary Sue. You don't know what a Mary Sue is so please don't use it out of context thank you.

  • @pkstarstorm1up Yes, I admit I may have over exagerated that part, and oh for your information I do know what a Mary Sue is, a Mary Sue is a character that is compleatly perfict and has no flaws at all. The rest of my arguement is still valid, the new games suck.

  • @Wolfgang01011 No it isn't. The new games do not suck. You may not like them but that is just your opinion and since there are alot of other people who like the newer games that means that they are doing something right and are good games.

  • @pkstarstorm1up I get that not everyone agrees with me, but still a lot of people do agree with me, but I respect your opinion and your right to have it.

  • I wish they keept the plot from the Sat. A.M. cartoon instead of the crap they have nowdays because, Robotnic was a legitimately threatning villian, where as now hes just a pethetic comidy relief, the characters were much more likeabul (with the exeption of Anton) because they were accuialy useful, where as the new characters are compleatly useless exept for a few, Sonic had a "take no shit 'cause i'm the best" type of attitude, where as now hes very bland with hardly any personality...

  • I'm sorry, but this looks like utter crap. Thank God it got cancelled.

  • Why was this canned. I really wanted to play a Sonic game that was based off the cartoon but no Sega cancelled it. I am hoping a game based off of this is one day made but I am afraid that day is never going to happen. It just makes me so mad that I want to find the director who's idea it was to have this dropped and kick him in the balls. >:(

  • @jmario232 You took the words right out of my moulth.

  • @jmario232 Accuialy the Casino Royale thing might be better for the like of him.

  • @jmario232 Actually Sonic Team isn't to blame for this game's cancellation. Sonic Team had nothing to do with this game's development as this game was being made by Sega of America and was scrapped in favor of creating Sonic X-Treme.

  • sonic meets prince of persia?

  • the same as " joe pencil trapped in comix zone"

  • This doesn't really look like a Sonic game but if you didn't think of this character as Sonic it's still a good looking game.

  • I hated how back then America and UK wanted to make Sonic their own.

I'm glad Japan has total control of Sonic now.

  • @gween

they had too whats cool in japan would not always be cool overseas

remember sonic was designed to be a cool character so he had to adapt to what in cool in america and

    the U.K

  • @hylton7 I don't let other people tell me whats "cool" and whats "not" those ideals were bullshit and they have failed! now a days everything comes from Japan purely as it is! they way everything should be! PURE!

  • @gween

    too bad for you lol.

guess what chill dogs from the old cartoons are now canon thanks to sonic unleashed eat it weeaboo back then sonic designed to appeal western kids in the 90's which is why he was never poplaur in Japan

    deal with it.

Also sonic was based off of americans superman/bill cliton/michael jackson to name a few

look up the history of sonic on youtube.

  • @hylton7 Like I give a shit, some idiot in SoA pushed em to put those pudrid Chilidogs in that Crap game, I dont care.

Sonic Team of today is not the same as yesterdays.

You can eat all the shit you want, I dont care who you are. You wont change my mind of WHATS SHIT!

Get out of my face loser! MY OPINIONS ARE MINE!!! AND ARE FINAL!!

  • @gween

    umad?

  • @hylton7 I knew u was gonna say that XD Nah man, Its cool. Talk ya later kay? and sorry if i offended you, Take care.

  • @gween

cool i was just trolling anyways yeah i perfer the japan storyline aswell :)

  • @hylton7 Yes Sonic was actually a team effort by both Japan and USA, ever heard of the mother of Sonic? I forget her name but she helped redesign Sonic a bit for USA.

Sonic was gonna have messy hair, a human girlfriend called Maddona and fangs before heh.

Look up the history of Sonic here on youtube! :) I forget the name buts called the history or Making of Sonic the Hedgehog.

  • @gween: YOU'RE bullshit. Even creators Oshima and Naka ADMITTED to the western interpretation being largely what MADE Sonic a success--since all the Genesis games (except for the first) were made by BOTH Sonic Team & Sega Technical Institute INSIDE the U.S., never mind that ALL of the 90's era stuff for Sonic was TARGETED TO western audiences--which is part of what fueled the animosity between Sega of America and Sega of Japan, all because SoJ was JEALOUS OF the success SoA was having.

  • @gween: YOU"RE an idiot. The Generations game and the comics' Genesis-based arc prove to you how STUPID you sound. Even despite the modern era internationalizing as opposed to localizing the brand, Sega has ALWAYS considered Sonic a "western property", so take that in your Japanese fanboy pipe and smoke it, because without Sega of America creating the western canon, Sonic would NOT be ANYWHERE near the level he's at today, and even the original Sonic Team members ADMIT it.

  • @TherealRNO Yes I admit SEGA of America helped create the Sonic we know and love , I'm referring to other side companies like Fleetway and Archie which made their own weird ass universes. But i don't care, whatever floats your boat. It was my opinion.

  • @gween: Those "weird ass universes" were approved by Sega. In particular, Sega has had involved with Archie ever since issue #70. Furthermore, because of said approval, every single Sonic-related universe is canonical in its own right.

It's no different than the 1939 MGM movie classic, the 1990 DiC cartoon, & Wicked are based around the same character and basic contnuity, whether Elphaba is played by Margaet Hamilton, voice acted by Tress MacNeille, or performed by Idina Menzel.

  • @TherealRNO its ok, and thx for the info.

  • You don't want to waste your time on @TherealRNO. He's a stupid Fanboy of the Archie comics and just makes up all of this crap about there being a western Sonic canon just so he can justify his obsession with SonicXSally. You'll never get your point across with this guy, he's like an annoying cist that just seems to keep coming back no matter how many times you try to get rid of it. He won't let you have an opinion. Anything you say to him goes in one ear and out the other. Trust me he's

  • @gween He's not worth your time. Everyone else can clearly see that there is no such thing as a western continuity, there is only the Games/Sonic X continuity, the SatAM/Archie comics continuity, the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog continuity, the Sonic Underground continuity, and Sonic the Hedgehog OVA Movie continuity, the UK Sonic the Comic continuity, and the Sonic the Hedgehog Promotional comic continuity. There isn't a seperate continuity for the English version of the games since the

  • events that happen are exactly the same for both of them. I've had plenty of arguements with this guy so trust me, you don't want to get into a debate with him. He'll just keep coming back to troll you.

  • @pkstarstorm1up don't worry, I don't plan to. I just don't care about anything anymore really.

  • @TheJJHman Sonic 06 is way better then this.

  • @pkstarstorm1up Sonic 06 sucks compared to this. :> '06 wasn't even beta tested.

  • @KaosuKaiari No because despite Sonic 06's problems alot of fun can still be had with the game. You can't have fun with this because you don't get to play it.

  • @pkstarstorm1up Well, duh. You have a point. But I still can't get the fact that I would have probably enjoyed this much more than '06, which you guessed it, I didn't.

  • @pkstarstorm1up

sorry i don't like beastiality in my sonic games thank you

  • @hylton7 It isn't beastiallity. Sonic is more like a human then a hedgehog so he isn't a regular animal. Plus beastiallity is when a human has sex with an animal and they didn't have sex so therefore it's not beastiallity.

  • Nice find here! While it looks nothing like a Sonic game, I could of maybe have been decent.

  • This looks awful, like a bad Flashback or Prince of Persia ripoff with a bit of isometric space. Entirely unfitting gameplay for Sonic.

  • The only reason why they were making this was for the canceelation of Sonic X-Treme

  • @ReligiousHero Ehhh, other way around. This project led to the creation of Sonic Mars for the 32x, and THAT lead to Sonic X-Treme for Saturn (Which obviously never came to be).

If you haven't noticed, this game went through a ridiculous amount of development hell before finally being dropped. :P

  • @ClassicTeam

Oh. Nevermind, but Sonic X-Treme became many other things to.

  • maybie if they made it similar with the muving in 8 directions and steal but with some speed elemants it would have bin better

  • Why did you cancel this SEGA? Why?

  • This reminds me of those Zelda and Mario games for the CDi

  • Intersting how the comments says "THAT WOULD BE THE BEST SONIC GAME EVER" "It would've been such a great game" "Awesome game". if it was realized..you will see it in every "top 10 worst sonic games" due to sonic slowness..

  • Where's the speed? There's a reason this never left the drawing board. Sonic X-treme was a shame though... that should have gone to market.

  • This looked like so many generic platformers. Euch.

  • weres the speed

  • looks like Metal Gear Sonic

  • And now we have Sonic Nebulous instead.

  • this game looks godly! why wouldnt they make it!

  • SOA showng SOJ how it's done!

  • pretty slow for the "fastest thing alive".

  • Splinter Sonic, or Soild Sonic is what this looks like.

  • Not fast at all, but I still like what I just saw. His animations are great.

  • how come it didnt come out it looks great just i dont get why sega didnt release this game its amazing graphics for that genaration of that time.

  • ist there a working rom of theis game

  • stealth mechanics in a sonic game? interesting but would never work

  • Like Sonic Xtreme that preceded it, I'm sure this game was canceled due to not having the Sonic feel and speed. Sonic is supposed to be "The fastest thing aliiiiiive"...not sneak around and slowly climb on platforms. Yes, the show has slow parts, but that's good for a show, not for a game. People want to see Sonic for what he is, FAST! Perhaps they could've had different characters for different stages. Sally Acorn would be suited for this kind of level.

  • THATS NOT FAIR! THAT SHOULD'A BEEN RELEASED!!!! ;^;

  • Okay this would be a great idea for sega!!

  • aaaaahhh i want an underground team to start finishing this game!!!!

  • bad game

    bad canon

  • This game would be epic if it had been released in his time. Look how Sonic reacts to alsmost everywhere, more then in the genesis games when you look at him checking up by the wall, when dropping down of the flying machine, when coming close to the pit and even when he was walking on the pipe!! He looks even more living compare to the latest games where he reacts when you DO NOT move at all. Something thats been missing in the latest games... Attitude and environment reaction.

  • @UnholySonic It is neat how you reacts to his environments but look how slow he is going... that's not a sonic game.

  • @cornchippers The game wasn't even completed, we don't know if the game would have kept this speed or not, there are many things they could have added, removed abd changed to make for the game to have a fast pace like a Sonic game should be. Oh wel... guess we'll never know unless a miracle happens lol.

  • @UnholySonic

Sally, Bunnie, Tails, and Knuckles and Tiara would have been playable.

  • This game could've came out... but Yuji Naka had a hissy fit and it was canceled.

  • "Sally came before Amy, even during the time that Shogakuken owned Amy"

By this I mean that even before 1993, when SEGA bought Amy from Shogakuken as an eight-year-old fangirl with a crush on local celebrity Sonic (in the 1992 manga guest-starring Sonic and starring Amy, both of them were human-animal transformers [hence Sonikku, since the name of the boy that became Sonic was called the Japanese version of Nikku]), concepts involving proto versions of Sally were being considered in the West.

  • "that fact that Westerners got everything (games, comics, & cartoons) first"

By this I mean the first Sonic game & its first sequels, the Sonic comic made by SEGA of America itself in 1991 as a test-run for the Fleetway & Archie comics, and of course, AoStH (Sally appeared in the Christmas-themed episode), SatAM (which inspired the Archie comics via its initial concepts), & even SU (a new twist on Sonic that failed)...which came before the OVA & Sonic X.

  • did u download this game? If so please give the link, i looked 4 it on sega16

  • Yeah this was one of the sonic concepts to make a sonic game before Christmas,

Because Yuji Naka said that sonic 3 was not going to make the release in time

So asked for a sonic... I don't know the name for that word... stop gap game ?

  • ,im thinking about designing a gmae based off of the satam and comics, and im getting help from a friend for ideas adn concepts and live civicguy2k said there will be different stage and gameplay types for different characters. now jsut comes how the game would be set up (its going to be in new gen style and if nothing else can be done it will use the unleashed engine for the day levels (sonic) and night missions (bunnie and sally etc.) ideas r welcome. i might present this idea to sega.

  • This looks really prince of persia-ish.

  • Reminds me of the Genesis game Comix Zone.

  • Looks like metal gear but with sonic

  • @DarkHeroZX I think at the exactly same thing...

    Always, company versus company.

  • This looks terrible. Slow-paced game.

  • So we in the West DESERVE our fair share--especially since SEGA itself started in America if you look through its history with Capain N before Sonic's creation--instead of SEGA of Japan taking full control and turning Sonic largely into crap since the Dreamcast bombed (and partially earlier with Sonic Underground, instead of DiC giving us the SatAM seasons they should've given us).

  • As for Madonna, the idea of using her was scrapped before the first Sonic game itself even released. I mean, to start off, Sonic himself--though JOINTLY made--was ORIGINALLY targeted towards Western audiences, so we in the States (and our neighbors in the UK) not only got the GAMES first (the first game started on the Master System & Game Game Gear in the West BEFORE the Japanese ported the MegaDrive over, rechristing it the SEGA Genesis), we also got cartoons and comics first.

  • neighbours? uk? need a map there mate?, and who cares about sonic's origins in relation to a cancelled game?

  • Yeah, but SEGA of America printed its OWN comic prior to anything else: i8 . photobucket . com /albums/a2/TherealRNO/page01 . jpg

Said comic used elements that would primarily feature in the Western [US & UK] products (Robotnik instead of Eggman [Naka even said Robotnik was his REAL name, showing you which one he probably stood for & he's one of Sonic's original creators], Planet Mobius, Ricky being altered into Sally, et al), BEFORE 1992 even started, so even then, Sally predated Amy.

  • Wow...I'm a big Sonic fan. I like the concept, but the play mechanics are just plain horrible.

  • It's more of walking adventure style game.

Nice to see, though Sonic should have some special attacks using speed.

  • Pit this against another game in development at this time.

Sonic Spinball Vs. Sonic SatAM the videogame

S SB:Should have never been released

    SatAM game: Should have been!

  • This didn't look so good, 'cause the last thing Sega needed was another boring beat-'em-up game (Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Altered Beast to name a couple)

  • Looks more like a stealth-platformer to me.

Either way, not really the direction I'd want Sonic to go, but... it could have been a fun spin-off game.

  • Wait, Streets of Rage is BORING?! Say what you will about the other two, they didn't age well, but Streets of Rage and its sequels are timeless classics.

  • Looks like metal gear mixed with sonic 0_o

what the hell where they thinking!?! ()_()

  • I knew I wasn't crazy I remember seeing something like this in a game mag back in the day I think it was game informer I don't remember but I do know they were talking about this and and another Sat am game believe it or not game play based off the tazmainia snes game

  • The SatAM game WOULD have used both the classic speed element gamers love about Sonic, as well as the stealth element derived from the show, so it would have been one of the great Sonic games, just as SatAM was the better show when pitted against the Looney Tunes-patterned AoStH, the poorly-developed Sonic Underground, and the horrific dub of the anime Sonic X.

  • Sonic X was dubbed quite good in Japanese, and it was quite successful that it got a year full of 52 episodes, plus another 26 episodes.

And the NA games are now dubbed by the same studio that dubbed NA Sonic X.

AoStH as weird as it look in visual, its story is actually more like the Sonic game and its game image than SatAM.

Sonic X itself is the closest TV series to the game both in looks and story, at least for the 1st 26 episodes.

  • so thats why sonic x-treme was never released.

  • This game wouldve been awesome if it came out!

  • @IceWilliamsFIC

this isn't a real game, bub

  • @IceWilliamsFIC to bad the best looking games are cancelled.

  • hrm...this game could be interesting to see, but it doesn't really look like Sonic. It looks very generic in my opinion, and surely Sonic throwing his rings would just make the enemies stronger? maybe a satam themed game would work, but I don't really like the look of this.

  • Boo on whoever downrated your FAIR OPINION.

But do keep in mind, the game WAS unfinished. They probably would have reworked much of the spritework and graphics if they ever finished this game. Not so sure on the gameplay, though; stealth and speed are two distinct things that I just can't see mixed together well.

  • haha, I don't care if I get downrated, I'm just sharing an opinion but thanks for the support anyway! ^_^

I suppose you're right about the graphics, but I just can't see this game ever getting polished into a game I can enjoy. when I think of Sonic I don't think of slowly walking through a dull tunnel beating up grey robots. But I was never a fan of satAM so maybe the game's for them and not me.

  • The closest game so far to this game is Sonic Chronicles, since it too is more of a walking adventure game and used materials from the Archie comics.

Anyway. Stealth is about speed, but used sparingly. Can be seen even in his 'normal' games.

Sonic and stealth while sometimes are friends, they are not close friends. He's the sort of guy who walked into a fight, then start singing and shooting missiles.

He's after all is Sonic=sound, "listen to my sound!"?

  • Stealth may have made it easier, but costed speed, speed would have made it harder, or maybe some missions were speed, others stealth. Who konws?

  • Good as Cartoon but Hell No for a Video Game LoL but if it was jus a game about Princess Sally and Sonic could be a Back up(Special Move)

  • mgs +sonic=this

  • This is too much of a fighting game for sonic... I mean sure, it looks like a cool game but sonic is all about speed and racing!

  • i noticed that too. not very fluid at all...

  • Although if those same concepts of speed and racing could be carried over to a fighting mechanic, it would be intense!

  • They could have made and EXCELLENT version of the SatAm show if they just used the regular sonic engine, had satam backgrounds and stages, and some interesting bonus games and save the slow stuff for different characters..

  • jaleel white's voice in a video game!?!?!?!

    *head explodes*

  • This wasn't going to make a good Sonic game because he's moving as quickly as Mario...

  • Hell, he's moving SLOWER than Mario here.

  • WOW looks nice!!!

  • metal gear sonic!

  • wtf. lol sonic gone metal gear solid snake on us. lolz

  • Of course, Amy's reception was less than well-received. For instance, a Games Radar article called Amy's introduction "the only bitter taste" in Sonic CD, but added that "she's just a pink hedgehog here and not a whiny, annoying brat like in Sonic Adventure."

  • Games Radar then obviously isn't a good representative of the public, considering they love her in Japan.

And Sega kept including her in their games since Sonic CD, indicating she's quite good at getting audiences.

I don't know what so bitter of her in Sonic CD though, she only showed up like around a minute or so in total.

If being and acting like a girl = whiny and annoying , I guess Games Radar don't like girls? Real girls I mean.

  • Sally did cameo in Spinball and through Sega Technical Institute--technical branch behind Sonic 2--this SatAM game would've given the Freedom Fighters an official appearance, but SoJ denied it, since they apparently wanted to keep continuities seperate at the time. Unfortunately, SoJ has pretty much taken all control from SoA, thereby making everything based around the Japanese canon, even though the American canon existed first. So really, if anyone's to blame for Sonic's failure, it's SoJ.

  • Well, considering Sega is based on Japan during Sonic's creation and so on, shouldn't the boss get the final call?

And isn't Sonic is basically a Japanese creation with a USA look and feel?

  • And as we know, SatAM was already airing--making Sally Sonic's love interest--before Sonic CD was made. Unfortunately, this didn't stop developers from calling Amy "Princess Sally" in the US game's manual in order to tie-in with the cartoon, even though Amy was NOT in the cartoon!

  • Correction, Sonic CD was in development before Sonic 2 and the Archie comics, but it was released after the first Archie comic was released.

The only problem is, someone at Sega forgot to tell Archie that Sonic already got a girlfriend currently in development.

  • reminds me of a game like abe's oddysee or heart of darkness(in premise). where your liable to live or die in the next screen on key actions. loved the animated series wish it got made though it be pretty estranged from what sega wanted...which never seemed to pan out for STI this, sonic mars and then xtreme.missed window of opportunity with adventure and dreamcast announced in 98. oh well probably best that way.

  • this is a hack! :P

  • Please explain before posting please. I don't know what this could be a hack of...

  • I think it's a fan game, a video/flash or a SEGA Usa game, it's stupid why SEGA (original/japan) will make a game based on this stupid series? (sorry) in that time, sonic has amy...(1993)

  • They never did. This video was a pitch by Sega Technical Institute that got turned down.

  • mm ok

  • Melkac: No he didn't. Amy didn't get bought by Sega until mid-1993. From 1992 (Sonic The Comic & SatAM's conceptual designs), 1993 (SatAM), and even to the present in America (Archie's comics), Sonic loves Sally, not Amy.

  • If I'm reading that correctly, ya. Except Amy (as far as I know) wasn't bought by Sega. She was created for the game Sonic CD that came out the same year SatAM and the Comic's where coming out. And there's no proof he likes or dislikes Amy, only speculation. Sally and Sonic, maybe... But, if I remember right, the SatAM Universe and the Game universe are two different things, so that's true SatAM-wise, but game-wise we don't know. XP

  • "Except Amy (as far as I know) wasn't bought by Sega."

Then why is she in the games, comics, and other recent Sonic media?

  • She was created by the Sonic Team and was owned by Sega from the start. her presence in a Magazine or TV show is Licenced from Sega and can't be owned by anyone else unless they sell character rights, which I doubt.

  • ClassicTeam: No. She wasn't. She was owned by manga company Shogakuken, from the day she was created until 1992, when the manga guest-starring Sonic was created. In 1993, Sega precured Amy from Shogakuken, planning to use her in Sonic CD. Oddly, despite the fact that we Americans already had a love interest for Sonic--in Sally Acorn--Amy was introduced in CD's American manuals as "Princess Sally" in response to SatAM airing on TV (whereas in European and Japanese manuals, Amy remained as Amy).

  • Please provide a link to information on the "Shogakuken" Magazine proving it. I'm actually intriged by this. Rather than upset at my self for not knowing this information, I want to know for sure so that the next time this subject is brought up I'll have a real answer instead of basing it on things I already know.

Thanks for shedding some light on this rather illusive information. I'm surprised I know so much and yet there's still so much more to be discovered. :)

  • History states that "Amy was not actually created by Sonic Team. A prototype version of her appeared in the Sonic the Hedgehog manga published on September 23, 1992, and there she was literally 'the girlfriend of Nikki (Sonic)', as the description translates." Of course, since Sally was already conceptualized before that (see the pre-SatAM storyboard ideas), Sally still predated Amy. "After that appearance, Sega took the character, and Kazuyuki Hoshino redesigned her for Sonic CD in 1993."

  • If that is coming from Wikipedia, then...

    Let me tell you something.

"Amy's first appearance is in the Sonic the Hedgehog manga published in 23th September 1992, as the girlfriend of Nikki (Sonic). Kazuyuki Hoshino designed her for Sonic CD, that was released in 23th September 1993, a project that went into development before Sonic 2."

It can be easily just like that in that article.

Of course Madonna predate both of them.

  • What made you so sure it wasn't the other way around, that Amy was loaned by Sega to Shogakukan?

Paulie might be even the one that gived Sonic the Tornado, while Charmy is one of the concepts for Sonic's followers?

Shogakukan probably had bits of development pieces from Sega to be used in the comics.

Brenda, Anita, John, Anton, and so on probably are originial characters.

If Amy was created by Shogakukan, why is that their name wasn't in the game?

  • Most probable reasons are: either she had a good backer in Sega, or she is actually a Sega creation from the start.

She nevertheless his equal, not someone above his status nor below it. Had no intention to upstage nor downstage him (unless one count clinging to him is up/downstaging).

Sega kept including her in their games since Sonic CD, indicating she's quite good at getting audiences.

I mean Selie ...er, Elise sure didn't stick around, Tikal and Maria were included in later game.

  • Correct, Amy was created for the game Sonic CD.

Sonic CD was in development before Sonic 2.

Sonic 2 was released before the Shogakukan and Archie comics.

    Sonic 2 featured Tails.

    The Shogakukan comics featured Tails.

Therefore Sonic CD was in development before the Shogakukan comics.

Therefore Amy was in development before the Shogakukan comics.

Sonic obviously loves Amy (in a true love way which is not the romantic way), or else, why would he let her made uncomfortable in some cases?

  • But sally never exist in the original SEGA D: her has the copyright of SEGA usa, why everybody put -1? that's true ._____.lll

  • that fact that "Amy" is named Sally in the US version of the Sonic CD instruction booklet is true. I'm not entirely sure how that system works, but I'd assume since DiC was using Sega's IP under licence, they half-owned the characters DiC Created. that or Sega or rights to use the name in the booklet.

Don't quote me on that one. :P

  • They are co-owned.

  • Actually Melkac, Sally was owned by SoA--since she appeared in Fleetway's Sonic The Comic, AoStH: Christmas Blast, "SatAM", & Archie's comics--and if you remember your timeline, SoA existed before SoJ. Plus, Sonic--though created for game stardom by the Japanese--was conceptualized by both American and Japanese persons, with Americans being the original audience (hence why we got systems [Master System, GameGear, & Genesis], games [Sonic 1 & Sonic 2], and shows [[AoStH, "SatAM", & SU] first).

  • So does that mean Sega still owns the rights to all of the characters? I mean, AoStH and SatAM where under DiC, and the Archie comics started around the same time that the SatAM TV show did. But Sega's never used her outside of that and a few mentions in instruction books.

That doesn't mean they didn't try though - there are Japanese copies of Sonic 1 - Knuckles, but the games didn't do very well there. I though Sonic 2 and 3 where developed in America but 1 was in Japan? Different subject :P

  • Sega does now own all rights. There are two main branches: the American one that owns Sally & the other Freedom Fighters (i.e. SoA approved the creation of "SatAM" and Archie's comics, and although the comics came out first, they were based upon the cartoon's early concepts) and the Japanese one that owns the games (which is ironic, since SoJ's Sonic Team created Elise in 2006, and she fufills Sally's role, essentially).

  • Actually, Sega owned all of them.

Only the game series refuse to burden itself with the comics storyline and characters.

Elise is quite in a way, Sally in human form. But as you can see, both the fans and Sega itself find it odd she was involved with Sonic. The game itself reboot, an indication a Sally type might not be suiteable, at least in the game in and not in her current role.

  • Sonic 1--like 2 and 3--was initially developed for Americans, landing on the Master System before the Genesis was even created.

  • Ya, I understand that - But (if I remember correctly) Sonic 2 and 3 where developed by Sega Of America. Sonic 1 was developed by SoJ. But the first Sonic game, like you said, was Sonic 1 for the Master System and not the Genesis one like it's believed.

So Archie doesin't own any of the rights to the comic than? I know that Archie is very closely watched by Sega for obvious reasons, But idea that all of those characters are owned by Sega is a little depressing. Sonic Riders 3: With Sally!

  • Archie owns rights to its Sonic comics, but not the characters in them.

  • I'd find it depressing if SEGA owned rights to "characters" like Scourge.

  • Sonic 2 was developed both by Sonic Team and STI. Sonic 3 was developed by STI only(Yuji Naka insisited that Japanese and Japanese American programmers work on Sonic 3) While the americans worked on Sonic Spinball.

  • Ya, that's what I thought.

  • @ClassicTeam I heard that one episode Sally died...

  • @marxandkirbyrocks Really? I don't remember that... I guess I'll need to get my box set out again. XD

  • @ClassicTeam Yeah,it's not very famous of her death. I'm not saying she DID,just thinking I remember an episode.

  • @marxandkirbyrocks: She didn't die in ANY episode. Your thinking of the comics' Endgame arc, where Ken Penders had scripted in Sally's death at the hands of evil Anti-Sonic (Scourge), but when Sega of America and the fans who read the comics panned that idea unanimously, the storyline was reworked into the notion of Sally being in a Snow White-esque coma until awakened by a greif-stricken Sonic and the cliche "love's first kiss".

  • @marxandkirbyrocks: That was to be in the comics, but Ken Penders opted out of that due to fans throwing a fit and SEGA of America disproving of that idea, since they still had ideas involving Sally (besides SatAM itself and the Archie comcs, there was to be a game [the one in the video], SatAM-based storybooks, coloring books, and the LIVE stage show in Sydney AUS at the now defunct SEGA World theme park [where that love song from Sally to Sonic--"Thank You For Being You"--comes from]).

  • This is the most ignorant statement i ve ever read.

I hope you re from Brazil or something, because sonic actually came out WORLDWIDE first

    on Genesis / Megadrive June 23rd 1991

  • Beck: Actually, he came out ON Master System IN America BEFORE the Gensis. And FYI, I am American, thank you.

"Sonic the Hedgehog is a platform video game that was released in 1991 for the Sega Master System and the Game Gear. It is distinct from the more popular 16-bit game."

  • Oh my god.

    It was NOT released BEFORE

it was released in 1991 for MS and GG , captain OBVIOUS!

But FIRST on Genesis / Megadrive with a worldwide release on July 23th 1991.

Damn , and you even reply! You really are stubborn...

the secondary versions ( because that s what the MS / GG versions are ) came out during autumn.

Damn it , the nerve of you.

  • Hey, Beck!

What do you mean with your statement: "I hope you're from Brazil..."?

Here in Brasil (Yep! With "S", not "Z") Mega Drive version came out first, too! Master System version arrived here only in 1992. Before that Alex Kidd was the King of 8 bit platform games (Master System was more popular than NES clones. Original NES, only arrived here in 1993 and drowned).

And if you post this because a previous ignorant statement, I'm waiting your apologize for your preconceived notions...

  • Since i was writing in english i thought it would be correct to use BraZil instead of BraSil :)

kinda like you say Italy instead of Italia if you re speaking in english.

Now , to answer:) it was an overstatement on my part obviously. I am a Brazilian SMS games collector:) so i know what i am talking about.

It was an overstatement born from the fact that Brazil was like sega's second home .

    Happy holidays by the way.

  • @BeckTropical Yeah the Master System was going in Brazil long after its demise in UK. I remember playing (an admittedly godawful) version of Streetfighter 2 that had been developed for the Master System by Tectoy later via (an admittedly illegal to use) flash cart, although I was playing it on the GameGear. I was really hoping that Stretfighter would come out on the GameGear. I was trying to make it at one point, but I got into C" instead and my mind went all Object Oriented lol

  • @TherealRNO The Master System version was developed and came out for the Master System AFTER the Megadrive version. The Megadrive version was the original, and the Master System version was developed for two reasons. 1) The Master System was more popular than the Megadrive in some countries, and 2) Sega wanted a version for their Gamegear handheld - a portable Master System (with modified gfx).

  • @nicholasthetaylor: Irregardless, all of the early games that precursed everything were sent to the West first, before the Japanese in the East gave themselves anything. As such, that fact that Westerners got everything (games, comics, & cartoons) first & that Ricky was Sally's predecessor means that Sally came before Amy, even during the time that Shogakuken owned Amy, since the manga with Sonic and Amy in it was made in 1992 & concepts for cartoons and comics in the West came a year before.

  • @TherealRNO You are either getting confused or you are making up facts. The Comics and Cartoons came out after the game to cash in on the franchise, and they didn't stick to the original story. The Megadrive Sonic game was the first product of the Sonic franchise to be released. That was the whole point of Sonic, to be a better selling game than Mario. Don't know why you're going on about Ricky and Sally. They weren't official characters. Also Amy didn't appear until the MegaCD Sonic game.

  • @nicholasthetaylor Actually, TherwalRNO has some credibility. soon after Sonic 1 came out, there where Japanese Mangas that we never saw (at least until recently) That had Sally and Amy in them before they where in SatAM or Sonic CD, respectively. you can check them out if you go to the Sonic Retro forums and add this to the url: showtopic=19993

I hope this resolves some confusion... and that you didn't already know this. :P
