ALL of The Spiders from Mars are incredibly talented and underrated. Just watch their last performance. They are immensely apt at their craft. Can't be said about today's music at all.
this song is about kids after a nuclear holocaust who watch old movies in the drive in movie theatres to learn how to have sex. if you listen to the lyrics youll get it.another amazing idea by bowie
@nicosgun1 I always loved how Bowie took seemingly simple ideas and created a wildly inventive theme in it, a la Lovecraft, Huxley, etc. I am not stating anything we all don't already know, just saying how much I admire his creativeness.
This has to be my all time favourite Bowie song.I still get goose pimples even now when he sing "his name was always buddie" (with the word buddie said very powerful ) fantastic hope it still gives me goose pimples in another 30 years
great song.what a great voice.dave could really hit high notes then.beautiful. hes still got a superb recognisable voice lower in pitch now of course.david make a new album guvnor pls!
I am a mad Bowie fan of this era (was at the last Ziggy Concert in July '73) BUT he was always a massive disappointment when interviewed. It was really one area that for all his characterisation he never cotton'd on that he should have NEVER given interviews and perpetuated the myth is silence...
David is original....some people do not or will not ever come close to living anything resembling a authentic life. ...they are copy cats of a madison street, edward Bernays reverse television psy-op....drones at best.
Hi ! I have a DVD where there's this interview, and I didn't watched it since a long time. It's this video that made me want to watch it again, and I had saw when he's talking about the letters he receives, when he "can't talk about the sexy letters he receives ; "Heavy"...", so thanks for sharing this video. I have 3 DVDs of D.Bowie, and some songs are even not on youtube. If someone explains me how to take just a song from a DVD & put it here, I would do it, I think it would be interesting.BYE
@lorenzino1 What is the name of that DVD? I want to try and find it somewhere, especially because of this interview, he was so sweet here but also very smart with this nosy TV host :)
Thank you for this. WoW! I became a Bowie devotee at that time, at age 13. Bowie's classics never sound dated. It's so nice of you to put this up. After 10 years of being ridiculed by my daughter when I play, Moonage Daydream; at 19, she FINALLY gets Bowie. She has lyrics to it on her fb, hell yeah! What's not to love about Bowie and Ronson?!!! They were one of the best combos evah!
@AeJstyle Look dude, I wasn't discussing philosophy, I was making a comment on the aesthetic of the video, which is NAFF. What's with the poncy purple frame? A full-frame view of Bowie's performance would have looked far better, not to mention bigger.
@FriedEggsandChips Haha, I made some messing here. I got your comment in the wrong way (probably because I was seeing two versions of this video at the time, one that didn't have the purple frame). Sorry, I agree with you, now that I understand you. >.<
Absolutely TERRIBLE lighting. GET RONSON OUT OF THE SHADOWS! Brilliant arranger, producer, guitar player, singer - this era would never have been so good without him.
@AbstractZygodactyl No one looked like that then. It was just before the Bowie look a likes. Neither man nor woman, translucent skin, no eyebrows and that hair. He gave the earring to Russell at the end of the show. All best, Zil
The best stuff comes from when you hardly know what you are doing, like Michael Caine, they both had brothers who were put in 'mental' institutions. strange, but true.

To think what Mott the Hoople would have done to this if they didn't turn it down. I bet Bowie could have made 20 bands famous by writing for them....so diverse, so immensely talented.
I remember watching this on top of the pops i think when I was a kid and I am sure there was a video for this song where there was a convertable car with a TV in it.

Yeh, agree with you. Think Bowie owes a lot to Mick, especially, but not to forget Woody n Trevor. Bowie did fantastic lyrics though. You make a good point.
He was still finding himself. He didn't like answering questions because he didn't know who he was yet.. so he made up things on the spot, like the accent thing, that was probably off the top of his head because his parents had accents from yorkshire and lancaster. He didn't like this man very much.
I just love him... sence I was 12 or 13.. He is great! LOVE DAVID
