@sheltv100 - If most people understood the TRUE meaning of faith and not be guided by manipulative and misleading teachings and traditions, we would have less problems. It doesn't matter what your persuasions are. Let's also not forget that it's possible that Jesus may have learned from Buddhist teachings while in his teens and twenties in India. There are teachings that are consistent within Buddhism and Christianity that are not consistent with Judaism.
You should look at examples like Sri Lanka, Burma, and Tibet... once a country because 'their' version of enlightened, the country fails... the Western version of Enlightenment is always much better. Get deep education in philosophy and ethics and theology, and history etc. You don't have to be a Scientist to get a good education or understanding of those arts.

@eskercurve - Are many if not most of your fellow "parishoners" (sorry, I can't come up with a better word) converts as well? How fast has your temple grown? Are there many others as well? Just curious, what are the demographics at your temple and others that you know of. I've been told that of the non-Christian faiths, those of European ancestry (whites) are attracted more to Buddhism than other faiths.
@thespeez The temple was founded by Thai and Japanese emigrants in the 1960s where I live, and today it has about 80 regulars and a number of people who come when they can. I'd say there's 10 or so white worshippers. A lot of my friends who were raised Roman Catholic have since converted or stopped attending, and I think most would rather not worship anything at all now. That's just my experience though.
All religions have their place on earth, everyone seeks the same in life, to love and to be loved, if all could tolerate each others religious beleifs then the world could be a happy place. (no this is not fantasy but is achievable) I'm a Buddhist and don't ridicule any other religion

This called karma. Karma - or ACTION. It is NOT a mysterious force as some misunderstand. It is simply ACTION. Positive, Negative & Neutral actions produce corresponding results. Harmful actions such as hands over a fire, produce pain & damage to u. Killing produces pain & suffering to the victim as well as U because others will try to find U to put U to jail or execute U. Thus, bad ACTION (Karma) results in suffering. U don't have to wait until a next life, U can test it now, no faith needed.
Buddhism explains 7 layers in the subconscious mind, when we do an activity by physical, word or mind its based on 3 subconscious natures - greedness, anger, unawearness, if the action based on these three it creats negetive effect and be stored in one of the 7 layers of mind, which creats a result at any time, either this life or next life or after several life.. If the actions based on, non-greediness, non-anger, wisdom it creats positive effects,
Rebirth is the process by which an object decays or changes into another state. Matter and energy r constantly decaying and changing states. The vegetables you grow and eat are digested and become two things: 1. energy for your body and 2. excrement and urine. This is a fact of existence. Not one thing is excluded from this process. U mistaken rebirth with Hinduism's re-incarnation, which is Buddhism rejects.
The food is reborn into energy & feces. Thus all things in the world r connected & keeps feeding into one another in a process of being born & dying over & over. Rebirth has little or nothing to do w/personalities going from 1 life to another. That concept is an error that many outsiders don't understand.
If Allah exists. Buddhist would have no problems w/that. They would wish Allah happiness & joy also. They would also wish Iblis happiness & joy. Thus full empathy is achieved. Not just half.
Ask any Buddists they will tell you the moment you die you are reborn as another being. If you do good you are born under better circumstance and if done bad under worse conditions!! If you dont beleive in that you are not a Buddist! Rebirth is as important to Buddism as the cross to Christianity!

One that you decided to adopt for your own agenda instead of actually reading the Tripitaka Sutras. There are those who consider themselves Buddhists who have never even read a Sutra and they go on what others tell them. Much of which is superstition. Rebirth is just a fact of life. Not important to the Buddha's teachings. The 4 Noble Truths are the most important to understand.
Wrong again, I am from Sri Lanka and I know exactly what Buddism is. We are bombarded day and night with Chants talks and songs about Buddism and what it is all about! The main purpose of Buddism is to stop being born again anad again! 4 noble truths are supposed to help you reach that target!
Sorry you don't. You really should read the Sutras. Full perfection of understanding and practice of the 4 noble truths leads to Nirvana. Not rebirth. It is the ending of rebirth that is the true and final goal. The Buddha did teach other paths for folks who were still attached to the pleasures of life. These are taught by the monks to the laymen. This is what you have been exposed to. If you studied, you would know. There are 5 vehicles of Buddhism which serve different types of personalities.
Do you understand that in order to enter Paradise after death, you are reborn into Heaven? Why do you not see the truth in this? It is clear as day. Rebirth does not contradict Abrahamic traditions.

Yes Ken, this point has been made centuries ago. But it is no use since "God has infinite wisdom over us mere humans" so we'll never be able to talk to a believer in such terms. Rather, I think that we should give them a chance & point out how it is so unfair that people blame the Devil 4 bad things & God 4 good things, & sometimes hateful people also say God punishes people through disease etc. So it's arbitrary & depends on the mood 2 determine if something was caused by God or Devil.

What you are referring to as Gods (s) are probably the jinns. They are a life form like humans but in a spiritual form! Like Humans they too have good ones and evil ones. The evil ones are capable of disturbing the humans.

You are terrified of that God will be angry with you if you don't worship Him. But I think you don't need to be afraid. He is supposed to be a good God and would not be so cruel to his own children. He would have infinite skillful means to teach His children. If any of His children don't get it, then there is a problem with His infinite skillful means. This is a problem isn't it?

I see, I misunderstood your point. Yes, I know U believe that a perfect world can only be granted by Allah. This is common to all the Abrahamic traditions. But it is obviously false. Even referring to your holy books it is false. Since Iblis was amongst Allah, in his Paradise, still Iblis was unsatisfied and so were many legions of his followers...cast into the lake of fire. So Heaven is imperfect, with the same problems as this life. It is not the final destination as illustrated by Iblis.
Iblis still had jealousy of Adam's kind. Tell me if Heaven is so perfect, why would there be anger or jealousy or hate? Indeed Allah can also be angry & wrathful. That is not perfection. So long as one does not work to abandon these poisons in onself, no place will be perfect. But 1 can find Heaven even here & now, if one is completely free from these mental defilements. IF U r in Heaven, u still have free will, U might still get angry or annoyed to even hate something. It's not perfect world.
In short, it is noble to be good because one understands, and because one wants to be good.

beginning of the world or universe is irreverent for problems and suffering which we face day to day at this very moment, that is what science is for.
But what happens after the death is a valuable thing to deal with. every thing happens as a result of another thing, inter-related, its not done by someone unseen. this is a reason -result existence, so there is a reason for suffering, and eliminate the reason-end suffering!
In Saudi Arabia, many people drive without seatbelts and so do their children. When my friend asked them why, they simple said, "if it is Allah's will, then we will die". Things in the world is a combination of earth factor, water factor, air factor which keep on changing ever, when the subconscious matter combined with these 3 factors there will be a life. when we die the subconcious seperates first, there you have left the body, the air factor removes with last breath and then the body dries out as the water factor leaves, and it decomposes as the earth factor goes off .. its not the will of god man. nobody controls it.

You should look at examples like Sri Lanka, Burma, and Tibet... once a country because 'their' version of enlightened, the country fails... the Western version of Enlightenment is always much better. Get deep education in philosophy and ethics and theology, and history etc. You don't have to be a Scientist to get a good education or understanding of those arts.

Just curious, what are the demographics at your temple and others that you know of. I've been told that of the non-Christian faiths, those of European ancestry (whites) are attracted more to Buddhism than other faiths.

@thespeez The temple was founded by Thai and Japanese emigrants in the 1960s where I live, and today it has about 80 regulars and a number of people who come when they can. I'd say there's 10 or so white worshippers. A lot of my friends who were raised Roman Catholic have since converted or stopped attending, and I think most would rather not worship anything at all now. That's just my experience though.

If someone said to a TRUE Buddhist, "I found Islam & it gave me peace in my heart". That Buddhist would say AND truely feel, "This is wonderful friend! This called karma. Karma - or ACTION. It is NOT a mysterious force as some misunderstand. It is simply ACTION. Positive, Negative & Neutral actions produce corresponding results. Harmful actions such as hands over a fire, produce pain & damage to u. Killing produces pain & suffering to the victim as well as U because others will try to find U to put U to jail or execute U. Thus, bad ACTION (Karma) results in suffering. U don't have to wait until a next life, U can test it now, no faith needed.

Rebirth is the process by which an object decays or changes into another state. Matter and energy r constantly decaying and changing states. The vegetables you grow and eat are digested and become two things: 1. energy for your body and 2. excrement and urine. This is a fact of existence. Not one thing is excluded from this process. U mistaken rebirth with Hinduism's re-incarnation, which is Buddhism rejects.

The food is reborn into energy & feces. Thus all things in the world r connected & keeps feeding into one another in a process of being born & dying over & over. Rebirth has little or nothing to do w/personalities going from 1 life to another. That concept is an error that many outsiders don't understand.
If Allah exists. Buddhist would have no problems w/that. They would wish Allah happiness & joy also. They would also wish Iblis happiness & joy. Thus full empathy is achieved. Not just half.

One that you decided to adopt for your own agenda instead of actually reading the Tripitaka Sutras. There are those who consider themselves Buddhists who have never even read a Sutra and they go on what others tell them. Much of which is superstition. Rebirth is just a fact of life. Not important to the Buddha's teachings. The 4 Noble Truths are the most important to understand.

Wrong again, I am from Sri Lanka and I know exactly what Buddism is. We are bombarded day and night with Chants talks and songs about Buddism and what it is all about! The main purpose of Buddism is to stop being born again anad again! 4 noble truths are supposed to help you reach that target!

Sorry you don't. You really should read the Sutras. Full perfection of understanding and practice of the 4 noble truths leads to Nirvana. Not rebirth. It is the ending of rebirth that is the true and final goal. The Buddha did teach other paths for folks who were still attached to the pleasures of life. These are taught by the monks to the laymen. This is what you have been exposed to. If you studied, you would know. There are 5 vehicles of Buddhism which serve different types of personalities.

Yes Ken, this point has been made centuries ago. But it is no use since "God has infinite wisdom over us mere humans" so we'll never be able to talk to a believer in such terms. Rather, I think that we should give them a chance & point out how it is so unfair that people blame the Devil 4 bad things & God 4 good things, & sometimes hateful people also say God punishes people through disease etc. So it's arbitrary & depends on the mood 2 determine if something was caused by God or Devil.

You are terrified of that God will be angry with you if you don't worship Him. But I think you don't need to be afraid. He is supposed to be a good God and would not be so cruel to his own children. I see, I misunderstood your point. Yes, I know U believe that a perfect world can only be granted by Allah. This is common to all the Abrahamic traditions. But it is obviously false. Even referring to your holy books it is false. Since Iblis was amongst Allah, in his Paradise, still Iblis was unsatisfied and so were many legions of his followers...cast into the lake of fire. So Heaven is imperfect, with the same problems as this life. It is not the final destination as illustrated by Iblis.

Iblis still had jealousy of Adam's kind. Tell me if Heaven is so perfect, why would there be anger or jealousy or hate? Indeed Allah can also be angry & wrathful. That is not perfection. So long as one does not work to abandon these poisons in onself, no place will be perfect. But 1 can find Heaven even here & now, if one is completely free from these mental defilements. IF U r in Heaven, u still have free will, U might still get angry or annoyed to even hate something. It's not perfect world.

It is stupid, childish and insulting to be good because you are afraid of someone's judgement. Therefore, don't worry about Allah's judgement, just be good regardless of what anyone thinks.

But what happens after the death is a valuable thing to deal with. every thing happens as a result of another thing, inter-related, its not done by someone unseen. this is a reason -result existence, so there is a reason for suffering, and eliminate the reason-end suffering!

In Saudi Arabia, many people drive without seatbelts and so do their children. When my friend asked them why, they simple said, "if it is Allah's will, then we will die". See this is the childish thing, you say allah created either egg or hen, and you say 'Either' so its one out of two, if h created Egg, the hen isn't created by him, and if its the Hen that he created, the egg is not his!! hah, there you said it clearly now.

So go ahead & make a feeble list & I will address them. I give u the possibility that u might have misunderstood so I will accept any list of questions.

The verses I quote u say were when Muslims were under attack. Much of the Q'uran was revealed during such times, should we then say that much of the Q'uran should be ignored? Since the revelations were during Muhammed's (pbuh) time we must accept them as the true words of God, yet U now are blaspheming betraying the words of the Prophet saying that some words are to be regarded & some not. U r claiming authority now. U turn ur own arguments upsidedown without outside help u disgrace Islam.

Jesus said, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate u, bless those who curse u, pray for those who mistreat u. If someone strikes u on one cheek, turn to him the other also."
Buddha said,"Hatred is never appeased by hatred in this world. By non-hatred alone is hatred appeased. This is a law eternal."
My issue is why Q'uran doesn't teach peaceful wisdom like Jesus & Buddha.

Ur precious Dr. Deedat whom prides himself on quoting "Biblical errors & contradictions" to prove Jesus was not the Messiah, does exactly what I do. I am merely being fair 2 U by following his example. He chooses sentences & says there can be no mistake about the meaning of such simple sentences. No mystery. So if U insist on context and missprints, explain which version is right? Send me the info & I will buy it & reread. What say U of the Hadiths? should I avoid them? I let U pick & choose.

Things in the world is a combination of earth factor, water factor, air factor which keep on changing ever, when the subconscious matter combined with these 3 factors there will be a life. when we die the subconcious seperates first, there you have left the body, the air factor removes with last breath and then the body dries out as the water factor leaves, and it decomposes as the earth factor goes off .. its not the will of god man. nobody controls it.

this is not acceptable, so as creations are so much errorful and contains bad than good, have a doubt on his wisdom that you are talking about....think wisely.
Again, even a 6year old can understand 'why the god did creat the testing ground first and the good one next to follow on, think this, if he is so kindful to all beings, he should create the good place at once and forever without creating an opportunity for error...isnt that what wise ones do?

So what is the use of this "limited free will" if u have no other option than to obey? This is ur confusion. If u have no other option, then is it by force & threats that Allah uses to subdue u? What a primitive/brutal way, like pack animals, the leader uses brute force 2 subdue others. Why continue insisting that Allah behaves like an animal? Know: Allah is greater than this. He wouldn't force or threaten anyone. It is ur books that tell u this, & u just follow. Ur not using ur mind 2 find Him.

We r not made automatically. We r born because we desire to be born. This is what causes us to continue. Every living thing desires to continue. Humans, animals, Gods, Devils no one is exempt from this desire. When u are on ur deathbed, u will want to continue to live in Paradise in the presence of Allah. Owing to this desire, u strove hard to worship correctly which leads Allah to take you in Paradise. "Desire to Be" is the fuel for ur existence and striving in life. "THINK" friend think.

So desire causes rebirth. What causes status of birth? Just like this life, actions cause U 2 move from high to low and low to high. Perform bad actions like crime, and get injured, killed or go to jail and no respect. Do Good & many will respect U, try to help U. Good work ethics makes wealth easier to attain, keeps the mind sharp. Being lazy makes you fat & dull in senses. Do I really need to explain this like U r a child? I think U know this. I see U do not understand. How would law enforcement be done without others? If U commit crimes, there is a chance U will be caught. If U don't do crime, there is no chance. Thus it is better to be good. As for judgement after U get caught - Allah has never been seen in any court room but human judges have served out justice over time. So judges evaluate & make the judgement. NOT GOD. Until U are dead, U have no right to say anything about God since U have never seen, heard, or spoken to Him.

This is the point, in the history when no science was existed, people were afraid of unexplainable natural things such as fire, rain, sun, moon, earthquakes etc, so the answer was 'The God' -l god worshiping religions begun...still even tough you know how rain happens, you refer it to god. thats how traditions and believes misguide the mind, one cant think free, that all happens due to our uncontrolled mind, he refers is as god's will.
