  • This is one of the best episodes of any show, ever.

  • Weird I just watched in Season 4 where Buffy says she hopes her mom has a funny aneurism.

  • /watch?v=rh8B7et55d8&list=PL5B53C6E168A16717&index=16

  • And also, considering the limited material Youtube allows from the actual series, the music was essential to add to the flow and pace of the video. You really need the whole entire episode to get those raw emotions through, and in my opinion, Joss Whedon should've made that episode longer. The sound of the actors' voices are also really essential to the context. Again, this was well put together, all things considered.

  • socially inept character unravels and expresses her need to understand the human nature and the natural flow of things. Along with the Willow's neurotic response, it just really creates a lovely display of the different ways we deal with grief.

Well done to both you and Joss Whedon.

  • Anya's usual callousness throughout the series was really pushed hard in the beginning of the episode, and we all thought she was just being Anya. The way Emma Caulfield uses such her brusque tone of voice that it just adds layer after layer of tension until Willow finally snaps at her, and for the first time we see the usually tenacious Anya as a confused and hurt... Well, human.

And that, in my opinion, was the beauty of that moment, when the seemingly most shallow and hardned as well as

  • i havent actually seen this episode yet. i have to wait till its on in a few weeks :(

  • Why her?

  • the part that made me cry the most was howw anya, willow, xander, dawwn and everyone got effected especially anya :'(

  • Anya Always Gets to Me bc We all Either Know or Will Know Someone who Has Passed and We Will Never Truley Understand Why Bc one Day they are they And Then theyre Just Gone and We Dont Understand Why they Have to Be...

  • Agh, trying to find clips is impossible with all of these dumb fan made music / slideshow vids. There was actually a purpose for the lack of music in this episode.

  • Great video. I loev this episode. Its so beautifuly tragic. The whole Anya speech scene was just amazing, Utterly heartbreaking. Shes like an innocent child who doesnt understand. Makes me cry everytime ='(

  • anya and dawn breaking down made me cry so much :( but great song with the clip form the show :)

  • i think kristine sutherland's performance is always overlooked in this episode..

sarah gellar is always praised for her performance, rightly so, but kristine had to lie completely still for eight days. She is amazing.

  • That episode scared the living fuck out of me. I had nightmares, seriously. She was a scary corpse.

  • It sucks that "Buffy the body" is also the name of some porn star...apparently.

  • @kurtywurty85 yeah i know! i looked up Buffy the Body on Google and I was like WTF??

  • Amazing video!

  • Anya's scene in this was heartbreaking!!!! That and that one simple line "You Can't Touch The Body!!!"

  • joss and the cast and crew did an amazing job with this episode, to show death. i can remeber when my grandpa died going through all these motions as well as others around me. everything about this episode gets to me ( anyas speech was brillant) you did a great job with the song and pictures

  • I never cry or get emotional when watching TV or a movie or anything. But Anya's speech...first time I ever did. Plus I cry harder if I watch it now because of my brother's passing a couple of years ago. Her speech hits home now.

  • I miss Buffy. Poor Buffy, Dawn, Anya, Xander, Willow, Tara, and Giles.

  • This is one of the saddest episodes ever, especally with Anya's speech. That makes me cry alot. I thnk what's most shockng about Joyce's death is that she died from a natural cause, which was never seen on the show before she dies...! R.I.P. Joyce!!

  • sad :(((((((((((

  • this was the most emotional episode ever for me on Buffy...it made me do more than cry...it made me call my mother(who i dont particularly talk to) just to make sure she was okay...nice job

  • It's Anya's speech that really gets me! Amazing episode!

  • @ImJasonD

Yeah, when Anya starts that speech, I'm crying!

  • @fergiefan30001 me too. I started cryiong when Anya said her speech. Everytime I cry when Anya says those things.

  • a great, and unexpcted episode the first time joyce in the living room as buffy called upstiars, i was like wtf? (seeing her on the couch like that) poor thing... i am going to watch the episode now

  • Thanks so much :)

  • What the Song name??

  • my immortal by evanescence

  • This one was a very very sad episode, and it was very sad also. Everytime i watch wuth my friend me and her cry, and have to have confort food, like ice cream, everytime we watch this episode.

  • in your description you spelled her name wrong its joyce not joice. and this episiode was so sad:( I cant belive she died. poor dawny

  • mom, mom, mommy.. that always gets to me.

  • i know me too !!!~

  • when i first saw 'the body' episode it was very emotional, and i really thought joyce had come back when buffy gets that vision, and then you realise, and its like noo! they did that episode very well, with no music, and like the worlds still going by,but buffys has stopped right there, like joss sed in the special features!

season 5 is quite a sad season, with buffy dying aswel :(

  • This episode breaks my heart. I have seen it maybe five times and it makes me cry every single time. The scene where Buffy finds Joyce is even more powerful because they didn't use any music. Buffy is always so strong and capable; she just doesn't go into shock like this. And she yells "we're not supposed to move the body!" to Giles, and the scene where she has to tell Dawn, and when Anya doesn't understand ... It is all so hard to watch and some of the best television I've ever seen.

  • i hate the idea of sarajh having to make herself go through that scene...shes a good actress....

  • i know did you know that she is pregnent its going to be so cute when her baby is born

  • It's funny you should say that since it was shot all at once. She had to go through that scene from start to finish quite a few times!

  • i think that the reason that episode made people cry was because, buffy was used to loosing people cause of vampires and demons ect but her mum dying she couldnt do anything about it

  • You spelled Joyce wrong.

  • this eps show buffy is totally better then angel, angel carnt compare to the eps on buffy lol

  • ahhhh this episode gets me every time, my own mother died of a brain aneurism much like Joyce did, and the point where Willow is trying to find clothes and Anya's frustration guts me everytime. Death is like that, it's so stupid and mortal and I never really understood why they couldn't just wake up again. I miss my mum every day.

  • yes a friend of mine died too ... When I saw this episode I have cried the whole episode and the next episode too ...

it was so sad ... and then when willow cries : OMG

  • @razorinyourapple I am SOOOO sorry about your mother. Love and light to you.

  • Anya's speech in this episode is just devastating. Willow, Xander, Buffy, Dawn all of them just broke my heart. Fantastic episode and great acting. Oh yeah, excellent video!

  • yeah, I was really sad but I just broke down sobbing at anyas speech because it shows perfectly that no one can really truely understand death and Anya who is normally so strong just breaks down

  • I like cereal

  • i think is the most perfect episode... in the most terrible way. like someone said before with buffy its just an escape from the real world that face every time u walk out the door or even turn on your television....

it just shows that these incredible writers really do understand the effect it would have on us... just having Joyce of all characters just die a natural death, we didnt really see that coming... and hit them just as hard if not harder than everyone who is devoted to the show......

  • One of the best epsiodes of one of the greatest TV shows of all time!

  • What's the song??????? I love it!

  • My Immortal by Evanescence

  • Thanks!!

  • It's weird, for me buffy was such an escape to a fantasy world with scenarios which you can only imagine and unlimited possibilities. Yet this episode hit me so emotionally; something I wouldn't have expected from buffy. Everyone involved in this episode portrayed a stark reality of death in a world of magic and supernatural causes we were so reliant on when watching.

  • it was so sad that she had gotten flowers and when buffy shouted NO were not suposed to move the body that was so sad. willow started me off crying. lol

  • Willow started me off crying too. :( And then I cried through the rest of the episode, especially when Anya says Joyce will never do things again during her speech. It's one of the best, and definitely the most sad episode of Buffy ever made.

  • there are a few moments in buffy and angel that really made me cry hard. Like in angel in the one where buffy comes back and he turns human but has to change back and she forgets. I thin it was called i will remember you or something. That had me crying like a baby lol. And when fred died i cried so hard lmao.

  • me too! I cried with fred and the ep I will remember you :(

  • Anya's Speach Makes Me Cry The Most :(

    <3

  • Me too!!! It's the most honest and shocking. It was brilliantly written and delivered.

  • On the dvd commentry joss whedon says he wasn't expecting that kinda strong reaction from anya's speech at all and yet he and the other writers wrote it so perfectly

  • It was such a good speech. So emotional. Next to Dawn's reaction I feel that was the biggest tearjerker.

  • That part, Anya's speech, was the first time I cried in the whole series. It was truly heartbreaking.

  • yeah same here, it was so speachless for words

  • omg yup that was the frist time i cried because of buffy

when buffy frist saw her mom i was in shock like her then when she told dawn the same thing

then when anya said her speech i was weeping like a baby

i still do every time i see that that part tor my herat emma cluafiled who plays anya did an amazing job she should have won a emmy for just that speech lol

    bring back buffy!!!!! plaease

  • Why is it people always feel the need to bring back a great show that had a great run and a conclusion? Buffy, Star Trek TNG, Avatar. We should be celebrating these shows in their entirety, and having them be inspirations for new shows, not trying to recapture glory days.

  • because some of us missed out..

  • @CreepyBlackRaven me too

  • @CreepyBlackRaven Yeah me too. I can't help but cry even when I'm just reading it. It's beautifully written and heartbreaking and strangely inspiring to me. It's....it's just beautiful.

  • @CreepyBlackRaven i know iv seen every episode 20 times and i know its comming but it just hits close to home

  • Sarah Michelle Gellar is one of the best cryers ever on TV.

  • this episode is famous fpor not having any music in it

so why on earth do u put cheesy songs on it?!

  • I don't really think "My Immortal" by Evanescence is a cheesy song. Sure, the episode is famous for not having any music in it, save from the theme song and the low-volume background music during the flashback scene, but I think this song does this clip justice.

  • This is one of the saddest eppisodes ever made :) It was brilliant in a funny way

  • I've heard only good things about this episode but when i ordered the fifth season it was missing the disc that had this episode on it so i've never been able to see the full thing and when i tried to contact the people i got it from you refused to respond.

  • wat happened howd she die

  • Aneurysm

  • her mom had a heart attack and was dead when Buffy got home. She tried to save her but it was too late. I was okay until Anya started crying and then i ended up crying. Then when Buffy had to tell Dawn...it was so sad.

  • Buffy's mum didn't die from a heart attack. She died from a brain aneurysm as a belated result of the removal of her brain tumour. And Buffy told Dawn before Anya's speech about how she didn't understand death.

  • Love the song, but next time try a music video :)

  • Great use of the Dawn character. It's not easy to do. Great job.

  • I love this song!! And I love how you used it with this vid! When Joyce did, I cried so hard! Wow, and seeing this video just made me cry too! Great job!

  • great vid, I think I'm gonna cry

  • I liked this episode. But, that song is overused too much on Youtube. Most videos with sadness use that song... Aren't there any other sad songs?

  • "My Immortal" by Evanescence

  • wats this song called?

  • you need more vidioes not just pictures

  • ok...so, it was a video I made as a statement and you dislike it and you say I ruined it? I think its "fans" like you who ruined it. END

  • I think you did a great job. Thank you.

  • @insanitycrime No, you ruined it. Stop it with your stupid fan fiction videos.

  • I think you ruined it. You completely destroyed one of the most moving pieces of the series.

  • What! Are you deficient? Are you sure your not the dorkinthemachine? Little boy? Stop playing with dolls....

  • Hmmm...the it calling itself 'LordOvr' is attempting to put me down.

  • Comment removed

  • Because Whedon and the other creative staff intenionally shot the scene in a specific way, with silence being a big part of it. All I can say is watch the original episode, 'The Body', the episode in which Buffy finds her mother Joyce dead. It's one of the most moving epsidose of a tv series I have ever scene, mainly because it is so "real". Not sappy, no sad songs, no distored clips on Youtube. Just watch the episode and you will see what I'm talking about.

  • I've seen it beleive me, I've watch it more than ten times and well i think you are right in a way but in the long run this video wasnt sappy it all it was work put togeather and the song wasnt even sappy. I think she did an awesome job and even if you dont like it i think people should of gave her a round of aplause because she even made the attemp to recreate a scene from Buffy that not alot of people have tried before and if shes reading this GOOD JOB(:

  • I agree.....it was the first time that something rehashed memories of having to dealh with death of a loved one. It was the most touching, realistic, and hardest piece of film I have seen. I know that things don't last forever, but I wish the show did. Never had a show I have seen been so real in the human condition to me. The Cast & Crew have much respect and admiration from me.

  • wot a great video well made!

    powerful picz!

  • on a technical level alone, thie is very good. the thought behind it even better. you have to be a buffista to really enjoy it. possibly one of the best uses of the dawn character!

  • great video and great song
