if you stall press the clutch down and start the car, make sure gear is in 1st and start driving like you normall would. No point in going from 1st to neutral and clutch in at same time then start then neutral to 1 with clutch in its a waste of time. Neutral = not connected to engine, clutch down = no connected to engine. Both = waste of time

I just got a 1991 Ford Explorer and it was working fine until it got to an intersection and without warning died. Pressed the clutch and turned the key and click.... nothing. Voltage seemed very low and AAA diagnosed the starter to be the culprit. I don't see how it could be the starter since it did start after leaving the parking lot. I was honestly hoping to see what could be the problem to my vehicle. Anyone that knows where a video please tell me on here it would be greatly appreciated.

i stalled too many times in the past 3 days. First time was in the middle of the Highway center lane in the middle of rush hour. This was due to a coolant host being cut, and all my coolant flooding out. 2nd time happened 24hrs later after I fixed my cooland prob. It stalled going up a damn hill, luckily some nice people helped me, and rigged my radiator fan straight to the battery so it will cool down my radiator. I HATE MY CAR!

If your car stalls while driving it's usually because of some failure, so you can't start it again.

What would be useful advice (to clear a railroad crossing for example) is to put the car in first gear and try starting it without pressing the clutch. That way even if the engine doesn't start the starter engine will provide enough power to move the car to a safe position.

@MicraHakkinen This wont work on 99% of cars because of the clutch safety switch. Clutch has to be down to start. Old service trucks sometimes have no safety. My 88 k5 im swapping to manual wont have it either just for this reason.

in older cars i guess its cool, but in new cars not really as cool.

in either case, get it repaired ASAP.

i usually dont keep it in gear when starting the engine, but i think thats just a random habit. one thing ive tried is putting it in a gear that will rev to around 3k RPM at the current speed, then popping the clutch. itll start the engine right up =D. stupid, but fun.

as far as i know, cars like the GTI, Golf, Mazdaspeed3 etc etc all come with manual transmissions (in the US), and you gotta upgrade them to Automatic for like an extra 1.3 grands USD or so.

some cars don't even come with the choice to get an automatic transmission, like the higher trim GTI's and MazdaSpeed3's.

I currently drive an automatic, but once i'm done with H.S. College and get into the military, i'm gonna get a good manual transmission car. preferably Mazda6 or Kia Forte
