  • The older lady is actress/singer Shannon Bolin, who played the wife of the middle-aged man in the film "Damn Yankees" - and the gentleman she's walking with in this commercial is her real-life husband of over 50 years! It's nice to realize the older couple were just exactly who they seemed to be. Makes the commercial even sweeter and more poignant.

  • Okay is it just me, or does it seem like the young couple just got in an argument? The woman looks very modestly pissed; she's crossing her arms, she's not looking at her husband, and then they split up to shuffle on past the sweet elderly couple. It seems like they see them and then think "Oh yeah, let's pretend we're in love so we can look happy too".

The older couple is really all this commercial needed to say "diamonds are forever".

  • I love this commercial!!!

  • I love this commercial. I bought my wife a gold ring with four diamonds and it's beautiful.

  • Wearing diamonds is for fools. They sparkle, they are expensive - everyone will be sooo impressed. For some people that's all what life is about. Modest people don't wear diamonds.

  • Ralph, diamonds are forever. I'm sorry that you had to buy your spouse's engagement ring at Wal-Mart. Just because you're "modest" and not flashy, doesn't mean that people associated (the girl wearing it, or the guy who bought it) with a nice diamond are "uppity".

  • Michael, your Wal-Mart-joke says it all. Obviously you believe that buying a ring for $50 is the wrong way to express love. It seems like you believe, that the more expensive the ring, the greater the love or the personality of the owner. Well, the ring is just a symbol anyway. It could even be made of plastic or wood.

  • @12Michael19

All diamonds are blood diamonds. You go on telling yourself how meaningful it is.

  • Sorry, that was supposed to be Yumeji's Theme. I

  • The beginning sounds like the old song Irene Good Night with Yujemi's Theme in the background. That's just my guess

  • What song is this?

  • can someone get this for me with the ad in the end? please oh pelase please please=]

  • I like this version way better.

  • This version makes it seem like somebody died. Or somebody's taking the long walk to the electric chair or something.

And that's why i prefer the 2008 version with "Stand By Me" .... it sounds more like a relaxing and happier version. It fits well with this ad because the people are smiling.

In the 2002 version, if the people were frowning/sobbing, well....... self-explanatory.

  • this is the first version of the commercial i had seen. i hadnt seen it in years, and i still remembered the theme. i love this song way more than the Stand By Me version. just an opinion. but if i got that song stuck in my head for that long, then it just feels right.

  • I love this commercial- it is just sooo sweet!! Me and my love always comment on how its the two of us on there.. and that we too will last forever.. my love's a sweetie :) LOVE YOU TONY!!

  • I really that That young woman in the clip!

  • I thought the commercial was way cuter with the standby me song

  • This version (with this song) work better for me.

I love the song "Stand By Me" but I believe that the song used on this version makes the viewer focus on the older couple and makes a stronger connection when the younger woman turns around. "Stand By Me" version leaves you focusing on the younger couple from start to end and there dynamics are diminished when the woman turns around.

  • No, it doesn't work with this song at all! It sounds much better with stand by me.

  • how romantic!

  • I much prefer this music to Stand By Me for this ad.

  • I agree..i love the new one with Stand By Me..it's so touching. I careless about the diamond but how the music makes me feel everytime.

  • Stand By Me is so much better for this.

  • in my vids i play this song on the piano =]

  • This has always been my favorite commercial of all time, and to see them wreck it now with "Stand by Me" really pisses me off!!

  • I like the original commercial; Stand by Me just doesn't fit this commercial

  • the song ur looking for is the video reponse above

  • They play a diffrent sonq soo im confused.?

  • Yumeji's Theme by Invert possibly??

  • I could be wrong, but the acoustic guitar version sounded like Laurence Juber's Stand By Me on the 2008 release called 'Pop Goes Guitar'

  • thats what im looking for now

  • what is this songs name?

  • The NEW commercial's theme seems out of place, if u've seen this version before. This is better!

  • I fully agree...the original music was a much better fit; sounds like what the elderly couple would have heard when they were the age of the young couple, it matches the pace the couples are walking, and it has a much more romantic feel.

  • I agree... for sure... I loved the richness of the original. BUT to add to your point, when the Drifters released "Stand By Me", the elderly couple would have been about the age of the younger couple. By the song being a re-make, it assists in driving home the concept that even-though things change over time (including the song), the core and fundamental basis of things remains the consistent. Love. 1st version still had a more romantic feel like you mentioned! sigh ~B.Kyle

  • Interesting point, I like it :-) But that would put the elder couple in their late 60s to mid 70s. They appear older than that; well into their eighties. They also have an Old Europe look to them, suggesting they grew up in Europe during WWII. That's another reason why the original music seems to fit them better.

  • hey two ppl asked this already but i was just wondering if anyone has seen the same commercial but with a new song in it, if u ask me its way better than this one and i really really want it. its very important cause i might b able to use it to plan a very special occasion that includes buying a ring. so if you guys could help me out that would be awesome.

  • I actually went to the iTunes music store and tried to find the song that appeared in the new version of this commercial. Apparently, there's an instrumental version that sounds a lot like the one from the commercial. "Stand by Me (Instrumental)" by The Ventures. Hope that helps!

  • The version in the commercial is acoustic. The Ventures version, or at least the one on Amazon is electric, so it seems that I'm still looking.

  • Ah yea, it was acoustic. I couldn't remember clearly. Well, good luck with your search!

  • i also just saw the new one, with the acoustic guitar version of stand by me, i feel like i've heard it before too. but i really wanna find the artist!

  • I could be wrong, but the acoustic guitar version sounded like Laurence Juber's Stand By Me on the 2008 release called 'Pop Goes Guitar'

  • i agree, just listened to it on itunes... i think that's the song

  • i think they made this commercial new it`s the same couples but a diffrent theme...the diffrence it`s guitar them has anyone seen that commercial yet? and which song is it sounds like stand by me

  • Yes, I just saw it last night.

  • This is probably my favorite commercial of all time!

  • Does anyone know the song in the de Beers "His Clothes" commercial from 1999?

  • The happy couple with the shiny rock: Brought to you by DeBeers. Shutting that bitch up through the exploitation of African labor since 1880!

  • It is indeed Yumeji's Theme, from the movie "In The Mood for Love". The version in the commercial is by Shigeru Umebayashi. There are a number of other versions out there that sound somewhat similar, but not exactly as used in the diamond ad. The track is not available on iTunes in the U.S., even though it is listed and you can preview it. You can find the entire soundtrack on Amazon from 3rd party sellers for around ten bucks.

  • No, the version in this commercial is slightly different from Shigeru's Yumeji's Theme. I am listening to both right now and comparing them.

  • please please tell me where to find the version in this ad. thanx a lot.

  • I looked it up, and though I don't think it's right, the only response I got was that this song was 'Palladio' composed by Karl Jenkins

  • The song in this commercial is NOT Yumeji's Theme, altho that one is really really close, I would love to know the actual name for the song

  • Bravo to the one who conceptualised this ad!

First the old couple, in love, but probably about to die.

Then comes the younger couple symbolising continuity and showing that love can transcend the old couple's life, and more generally that love can last longer than life.

Then narrator speaking at the end, the music all along.

"There are two things in the world that last longer than time. Love is one of them. A diamond is forever".

    Simply beautiful!

  • one of my all time faveorite commercials. there's something so peaceful and sweet about it. thanks for posting.

  • what is the name of the song in the background??

  • Yumeji's Theme is beautiful but it's not the song on this commercial. Does anyone know the right name?

  • I've just listened to Yumeji's Theme, but it doesn't sound the same. Is there another name I could search for?

  • This is one of my all time favorite commercials!!! Love is forever!!! What insight, There is something magical about this clip,,,

  • you can find it @ limewire just type in the search field yumeji's theme and you'll get the full song... and it's Beautiful enjoy

  • Does anyone know the name of this piece?

  • THanks a Bunch...and a warm hug and kisses. I have been searching for this commercial...it is one of my favorites.

  • i adore this commercial. so sweet.

what is this song? i swear i have it somewhere but i can't place it

  • For the music, search "in the mood for love slow motion feelings" on youtube. The video featured there is directly cut from Chinese movie "In the mood for love" and the music used is called "Yumeji's Theme". Not an official confirmation, but maybe a rearrangement in the diamond commercial.

  • I have been searching for this commercial forever! Thank you so much!
