YOU WANNA SELL THIS CAR CHEVY...SELL IT AT $10K or less! Any higher no one is going to buy it. Get it out there. Small cars are not popular in america because they look like something a chick would drive and they cost too much. Way to much. Smart cars are suppose to be $12k but they are over $20k and they dont sell. $10k fully loaded chevy! They will sell fast and plenty.
This is not a competitor to the ford fiesta. That is the sonics job. Funny how people are blaming GM for sending jobs overseas considering the chevy sonic is the only subcompact car made in america.
@soyntgo4it from autoweek "The Sonic will be available in dealerships this fall. It is the only subcompact manufactured in the United States." Yes some parts are still imported, however fact still remains that is is still the only subcompact built here in the states.
LOL Im just waiting for people to say "support the american worker, buy a chevy spark" , then Oh wait... they are made in korea.
not only is GM sending jobs to other countrys to lower cost, but the upcoming GM EV's will be all built in china to make them affordable to buy in the US.
@matrixloader Actually, this is a Daewoo, that's why it's made in Korea. GM owns Daewoo. It's cheaper for them to use an existing Daewoo rebadged as a Chevy than to make a whole new car from scratch. Everyone does it.
@matrixloader Haha that's why I would buy a KIA/HYUNDAI OR HONDA/ACURA OR TOYOTA/SCION/LEXUS before I go buy a GM product most of these cars brands I listed are built in American and are better quality.
I want one :) I bet they could lower the cost a bit more if they didn't spend money on that headrest in the middle of the back seat where no one can even sit, lol
Ahhh... another "American car" that is made elsewhere. Thanks but no thanks I'm gonna stick with my Toyota made in Kentucky. Creating American jobs and not feeding greedy corporations.
a) it's time, even for you americans, to take into consideration cars that REALLY try to reduce CO2 emissions. Like every other advanced country in the world but USA does.
b) I announce you that such a thing exist that's called power/weight ratio.
A 160 hp/1600 kg car goes like a 80 hp 800 kg car, while wasting a lot less fuel.
@Mawerik024 Even though the power to weight is the same, the heavier car that has more hp will have greater terminal velocity (top speed) if the cd of drag isn't to much more than the lighter car, the faster the heavier car goes the more it will out accelerate over the light car. Reducing CO2 will do nothing for the environment as CO2 is believe it or not good for the environment. Global worming/greenhouse effect is just a global scam to make people feel guilty so companies can sell there shit.
This will be competite against the smallest scion currently rolling out in the US. Wait until out and test drive against other competitor car. Good for driving in the city but seem not so friendly after what he say.
I'm expecting a lot more than just 40 mpg out of a 1.2L, 2200lbs vehicle.... Didn't the Metro make over 50mpg? I think the engine was similar size, but I think it weighed much less though. Well... I think those things only put out like 65hp, huh?
But still, there are better options for 40mpg, assuming price isn't the deciding factor.
@asdfgoogle In Italy the top-of-the-range Spark costs 12.305€. 16.612$ at the actual conversion rate. But in USA that's gonna cost much less, you got lower taxes and you pay less at the tolls, etc.
I guess it's gonna sit around 12-13k.
What's the price of the cheapest car you got there?
@Mawerik024 I'm not too sure what the cheapest new car we have here in the US is. Prob a Hyundai Accent or Toyota Yaris, Chevy Sonic or Ford Fiesta. Oh yeah, and the Fiat 500.... something similar to those. I think they all range from like $13,000 to $15,000 USD for base model. I'd have to assume that since the Spark is even smaller and uses a few hundred pounds less of material, it'll prob only cost like $11,000.
As bad as 85hp sounds, it really isn't. It's not a sports car, and it's not heavy, so it really doesn't need all that much. Drop the gotta-have-lots-of-power mentality with this car. It was built for big MPG, not big MPH. That's why Chevy makes the Corvette and Camaro, folks.
all these youtube kids dont understand that not everybody can aspire to getting a camaro or a zr1. you idiots need to realize that there's a market for these cars, and it far out weights our dream cars. this is a company's bread and butter. i hope it does well, small cars is the way to go, cars are still too heavy, but at least theyre on a trend to getting smaller and tighter again. as for the korea comments, its called cost effective manufacturing. some (not all) of you kids are fuckin retarded
You may think WOW, How Un American of Chevy, But Believe it, They are playing a global game and its also a global numbers game. It completely makes since to make a small cheap decent car in Korea, thats what Koreans are known for! Kia for instance. GM and Chevy are thinking smart and are actually trying to make money. Yes the car is slow, If you desire a custom spark, and somehow can fit a v6 or v8 in that thing go ahead and void the warranty, if you really have that much money and time lol.
@10yroldcarlover They can get a better price. Americas want high wages, We could build the cars here, and price them competitively. But Did you know that on average we use 10 times the energy per person than the Chinese? We also make way more money than other countries. Thus in order to compete with Korean Cars, and German cars we have to build cars in Germany and Korea. Hence the Chevy Spark and the Buick regal. Although the regal is suppose to come the the states. But it is also more expensive
@randyseck If we make more money then why are we in a Recession this country is so far in Debit not even funny. We are the richest country and also the poorest..
@10yroldcarlover GM is an international company the Pontiac GTO was a Holden Comadaro built in Australia. Simularly the Solcist and Sky were based on the Opel GT and Vaxaul GT.
@10yroldcarlover because GM owns Daewoo or now also known as GM Korea. GM cars are not much American anymore if you ever look at the parts content you will see how much of their product is made outside of the USA..Such a shame..
@redclown1 Yeah, if you want to produce an affordable car, you have to do it outside the united stated states, because taxes unions regulations and wages are to high and a small cheap car cant absorb those costs. Plus, the Fed gov. has been fighting with Korea to balance the trade defecit. So at least we will be helping an American company buy importing chevys instead of Kias..... Well, people will buy both regardless but still......
@randyseck Given the economy and whole situation with corporations, American brands should build their cars in America. It's a shame large companies use the global capitalist ideal to save money for themselves and at the same time neglect jobs that could be created here. The American people did pay a price to help bailout of GM; now it's GM's turn to return the favor by building actual american. Im sure many Americans will pay a higher cost for an actual made in the USA product.
@JustAnotherOtherDay 85hp is ok for an average european city car... (a totally different view of cars, considering the way a car is supposed to be for the average american lol)
Um, what the fuck is Chevy thinking? Keep that shit oversees. Nobody in the US will get this accept for who want their backseat passengers to die if they get rear-ended.
@vothry this car actually does surprisingly well in crash tests. Also if you dont want it dont buy it. And plenty of people who were dumb enough to get a Smart might have enough brain cells to trade up to this instead.
LOL! James your right 85 HP is more than most lawn mowers not by much however! I'm not sure who in America would buy a car like this. I wouldn't want to be on the road with all the trucks and SUV's people in America are foolishly driving.
