Mr eel was 6 inch when i got him at about 6 mths old - i fed him 3 small cubes of bloodworm every day for about 2 1/2 yrs then I started to give him 3 medium sized prawns increasing over a year to about 8. hes 71/2 yrs old now and about 36 inch - hes grown about 4 to 5 inch a yr - but dont feed him as much as that because i was recently told by a vet that he was obese so i have cut him down to about half . He recently didn't eat for 11 weeks and looks better for it .

man, seeing this video besides you feeding him, I can see you two have a bond together, the way he eats from your hand and lets you pet him is amazing. I have see other videos of people hand feeding their fish and eels, but I can tell that he trust and is not scared of you at all. When you pointed to the clump of bloodworms and eat them was awesome. Also, could you tell me what tank size you have there? Looks like it is around a meter (100sm) wide. Assuming the lenghs is 50% more and a hight of 70sm - you have around 1000liters.
great looking Fire Eel!!!!! its massive. I have a 14" Fire Eel and he only eats frozen tiger prawns.. Do you thing if i dont feed him for a week or 2 he will eventually accept blood worms.?? I did the same thing to get him off Live foods and it worked.

@ThePeanuttBrittle no feeder fish have acidic in it and could harm this potentially give it bloodworms and NEVER give it worms dug in your backyard as it may be contaminated with fertilizer or pesticide
@ThePeanuttBrittle if new fish are introduced to the tank it might eat them if it fits in the eels mouth but if the smaller fish were there first then it may leave them alone as well NEVER place two fire eels together unless maturity of breeding as they can get dominant and jealous over territory and kill the other

@cielojune Hi this is the first time i have been able to reply to a question , for some reason my replies were never posted - mr eel has a 4 inch pipe and his girth is virtually that now - if yopur planning for when yours is fully grown 4 inch minimum but i would go for 6 inch .

Hey, beautiful eel! I just got a small peacock eel. He usually just hides only to come out rarely but at night he's all over the place. I never see him eat and I'm starting to worry. Should i worry is he just still nervous about the tank? also any tips on food/getting them to eat from your hand? thanks.

I just bought two of those (30 cm each) during the week-end. Having watched this video, I tried to feed my eels from the hand. They both ate, although not as brave yet.
By the way, beuatiful video!! as well as the music. Thank you!!!
Also, could you tell me what tank size you have there? Looks like it is around a meter (100sm) wide. Assuming the lenghs is 50% more and a hight of 70sm - you have around 1000liters.

great looking Fire Eel!!!!! its massive. I have a 14" Fire Eel and he only eats frozen tiger prawns.. Do you thing if i dont feed him for a week or 2 he will eventually accept blood worms.?? I did the same thing to get him off Live foods and it worked.

this just blew my mind... that you could handfeed a fire eel... i'm amazed its out at all but this.. wow
I've only ever delt with young ones back when i worked in a petshop but i would not have expected this from what i've seen of them.

@ThePeanuttBrittle My Fire Eel will eat live shrimp and worms, they can eat small fish but i wouldnt bother. My is 14" and he doesnt eat small fish. They LLLOVe live worms!!!

@ThePeanuttBrittle no feeder fish have acidic in it and could harm this potentially give it bloodworms and NEVER give it worms dug in your backyard as it may be contaminated with fertilizer or pesticide

@ThePeanuttBrittle if new fish are introduced to the tank it might eat them if it fits in the eels mouth but if the smaller fish were there first then it may leave them alone as well NEVER place two fire eels together unless maturity of breeding as they can get dominant and jealous over territory and kill the other

Great video, We have a Tyre Track Eel called EELY. He`s very shy and will only eat Tiger Prawns from Sainsburys! I keep him with two oscars. How did you get your eel to feed like this?
