  • moonlight sonata beethoven?

  • I am Playing Hale for our school play and these videos helped allot. Any advice on playing Hale?

  • RULE 34 ON REV HALE

  • I find Hale to be much more brave than John Proctor. Even though it seems like Proctor is more morally obligated in plain sight, much of his actions are visceral and out of anger. Proctor's main flaw was his temper and he pretty much took it with him to the noose. Hale's main flaw was his arrogance and he made a complete transformation and ended up doing what was right. He turned his back on everything that he had once stood for because he felt morally obligated to save those peoples lives.

  • I don't like the fact that every one believes the girls.

  • @Michelle1517love I agree with you-it seems like almost no one in this story knows how to use common sense. A general rule is that if something doesn't sound plausible, it usually isn't true.

  • it was really made to be acted out, not read. Its not the same.

  • haha the whore is all sad

  • Thank heavens somebody agrees what he goes to is almost as bad as Proctors crisis.

Hale must carry some of the guilt of the deaths in the town on his shoulders aswell as losing confidence in himself. And the worst thing- and what I found most upsetting- is that everything he had believed in...everything he excelled in...everything people respected him for, he felt had been proved wrong. Not only wrong, but it had damaged and killed,His entire past beliefs and his foundation were taken from him

  • Yet he still had the courage to follow his convictions. I think this makes him quite an unsung hero in this production. I love his character for being honest but not entirely abandoning his faith despite the madness he saw and was even a part of.

  • @DeeperRootsProject

Ah I never even thought of that :D although now you point it out I agree he did stick to his faith and try to ensure the town remained good people and still tried to redeem the good in the town- still believing in his faith despite the circumstance. Sometimes I find it hard to believe these people actually existed :L

  • @JxL483 They certainly did exist and were, in the large part, amazing people. I myself go to a church which stands in the Puritan traditional. Although it can't be called Puritan it is far more evangelical but it certainly retains many of the beliefs and practices of the Puritan tradition. I appreciate all that they were despite their many failings and their obviously flawed attempts to force people to conform to a work that only the Holy Spirit can do. :)

  • @JxL483 Hale's own tools are used against him. Everything Abigail says and does to torture Mary in act 3 comes straight from what Hale told her, and everyone else, were signs of witchcraft during act 1. And so how can he argue against, when these were the standards he himself used? He is seeing a man for whom he has great respect being skewered through the gut, and realizing that the sword being used is one that he himself offered up willingly to the enemy.

  • i love this line

pulling heaven down and raising up a whore

  • We are making The Crucible in our drama school and I loved your videos, they helped me get more insight into this character that I'm playing. So, Thanks!

  • I HAVE SIGNED 17 DEATH WARRANTS,THIS ARGUMENT YOU MUST LET LAWYERS PRESENT TO YOU!!!!!!-Reverend Hale is the man.

  • all i can say is F u Abigail and F u Mary Warren way to be a complete pussy u girls just tick me off

  • Hales my fav. character. The hysteria of these people makes them almost like Ganados.

  • I thought Hale more naive than arrogant. He obviously was confident in his textbook knowledge. However, his experiences clearly changed him. If he was truly arrogant he may have been less susceptible to change. He may seem weak because of the way he expresses his displeasure, and conveys a sort of emotional fragility. Also he shows a lack of persuasive sway that he had earlier on. Despite this, he admits he was worng (and seemed less interested in his reputation) and stands up against the masses

  • hale is my favorite character out of the story

  • I totally hate what Mary did to Proctor when she accused him of been the devil! lol those old men were so hungry of power...

  • Mary Warren upsets me SO much :( How can she say that "she loves god" when she lies...surely if she loved god she would want to live an honest christian life other than that of a scared little parrot

  • I think Rev. Hale walked away from the court because everything he had faith in had crumbled around him. I think at this point (near the end) his illusions of reality have been completely destroyed. He did what he thought was right at the beginning and at the end. But what was right is what changed, not necessarily Rev. Hale. Rev. Hale was a good hearted, noble person throughout. What changed was the reality of the situation.

  • Hale is sooo smexy <3 And how much he cares at the end, it's so sweet. He is like the one of the only reason I really like this play xD

  • @darkraven2116

You have goooood taste my friend!! I agree completely!!!

Thankyou DeeperRootsProject for making these videos! I had almost given up on finding Mr Hale footage!! xxxxxxxxx

  • Thank you, the videos you make are awesome

  • Hale has a really high voice but he is damn fine! <3

He's one of my favorite characters. I have a test on it on Tuesday.

  • im doing a play of the crucible and i am rev. Hale

  • this is helping me drama!

cheers for doing this man :)

  • Rob campbell ( Rev. Hale ) is so cute

  • @lavrilfan16 i knw rite!

  • Thank you so much for your videos on The Crucible. I'm an English tutor and your presentations and analysis are a tremendous resource. Thank you!

  • @adracht Thank you, are you using them in your classroom?

  • I don't have a classroom! I teach from home, both online and face-to-face. I used the Rev Hale and Rev Parris ones with an online student yesterday - sent him the link, then discussed it. Your character analysis is good and we are both of the opinion that Rev Hale is our favourite character in the play. Interestingly, some well known notes say he is a 'weak' character, but we don't agree! Thanks again!

  • @adracht How can anyone regard Hale as weak? He walked away from the court for truth and integrity, possibly even risking his life for defiance. He admits with humility that he was wrong in his "bearing gifts of high religion" speech and even returns to undo the evil work that he caused. Best of all, he keeps his faith throughout it, choosing not to walk away from God but to be humbled and better his view of the Almighty.

I don't understand how anyone could call him weak. Bizarre.

  • I agree and personally think him more of a 'heroic' figure than John Proctor. In a well known brand of notes for GCSE his character is summed up as 'scholarly, confident, well-meaning and weak' - and if they say it, thousands of students will believe it, unfortunately!

  • @adracht That's silly. You should write off to them. Our ICT teacher did when he found loads of mistakes in his GCSE book. :)

  • @adracht Maybe powerless is a better word.

  • Loved your analysis. I'm playing Hale in a production right now and have referenced this many times.

  • I must say a very big thank you, I am terrible at english and can't do A-level yet beacause of it, and these vids are really helpful :)

  • Thanks man this video really helped with a project i had to do about the Crucible.

  • I'm read and watched this play in my English class. My final is going to be on it.

  • hale is my favorite character, his qualities make him very likable later on,since he is someone you can trust and caring, plus the fact that he looks awesome,i think its his hair and face,he looks pretty badass, but besides that fact,he is a character with good likeable qualities

  • Is there actually the movie on youtube?

  • I adored this book and the movie.

  • DeeperRoootsProject I'm sorry for replying late but i'm being busy.I passed my crucible essay the first time since i saw this video that you post.

  • Great to hear that. Well done.

  • Moonlight Sonata, woo!

  • lol...well this video help me 2 with my american literature class...i have 2 read the story but thanks to this video ....ima do my essay thanks very much 4 the help =)

  • I just love the look on Abigail's face when Mary Warren hugs her. She's like, "You idiot, you killed the wrong person"

  • john in this scene cannot take all the B*&#S$#T and decides just to go with it, he finds that their is no possible way of fighting against the court, for they are always going to have a stronger lead against them, so he decides to through himself away with the lies but also so that he may be able to make abigail reconsider her acts of injustice and lies

  • Hale is so SEXY-look at them lips(juice) and blue gorgeous eyes.

  • something about his CHARACTER changes throughtout the play/movie about caring now about the ppl who are being accused and are innocent appeals to me :).... for some reason i find that an attractive quality tht is character plays .. lol defending ppl :)

  • @unowhothisbe u is ssoooo rite about that

  • Thanks alot. We're studying this in my English Class. But you take it to next level.- Thanks

  • So am I! My teacher's excellent at teaching this topic!

  • hey, were studying this in english also =D!

  • 7:51

What page was that on for you?

  • don't have a page number but I know its about 4 or 5 pages from the end of the play in the Penguin Classics edition.

  • Ahh okay! Thank you :)! Nice job, this is helping me for an essay

  • I know this doesn't have much to do with the video but I have 2 questions?

    1. Do you think Mary Warren secretly hates John Proctor? (He does abuse her a lot and she could've been picked anyone to accuse as a witch.)

    2. Did Abagail hang the dagger in front of Rev.Parris's door? (It was hung after John has been arrested as a wtich. Since Abigial mentioned something about a dagger ealier and she left with Parris's money, maybe she did it, due to her personality.)

  • 1. No, I just think she is incredibly weak.

    2. I don't think so. I think it was actually a mob of vigilantes. Be interesting if it was Abigail though, the stirring little beast.

  • Ya i agree because if you watch Mary when the girls are pretending to see a bird on the rafters. Mary becomes very scared that she will be hung for witchcraft. So i think she said whatever she had to so that she would get out of trouble.

  • I finally passed the essay thanks to you.

  • Oh goody, well done you. How many times did you have to do that then?

  • thanks so much for this! I've been looking for help as to how I should act as reverend Hale, the role I was given in my High School play. thanks to this, it's a whole lot clearer. thanks again!

  • wow dude! You have more free time one your hands than i thort posible... but the videos where very helpful so a big 5 stars 4 u

  • Thank you. This is part of what I'm paid to do though. :)

  • Agreed, he was great in this, Rob Campbell should be in more movies.

  • Thank you for these videos! I also am writing a report on the Crucible and the videos are extremely helpful. i also agree with you edwardlover, Hale is so freakin' hot!!

  • I'm playing John Hale in a school production, this has been incredibly helpful. I couldn't understand the character before, but now I feel more confident in portraying him.

  • Question: why does danforth call hale forward to speak, after looking at elizabeth's face?

  • were learnin this in skl atm lol its well gd

  • I love these both videos about Reverend Hale.. I live in german and tomorrow i will do an exam in english about this drama.

These reports are really awesome! I thank you for this.

  • Pleasure. Greetings from England. :)

  • This is soooooooooooo much help. Thanks:)

  • Erm...I'd prefer not to comment on the hotness given I share the same combination of chromosomes.

    :-)

  • Anyone uplaoded the whole movie? Where can I watch it?

  • I've been looking for it for a long time now..not necessarily the whole movie but I really want to see the final scene again. Very moving and makes the entire movie worthwhile.

The entire movie is good but that last scene really did it for me.

  • I thought that Rebecca didn't confess...

  • what did I say?

  • At :53 you said she confessed. I thought she didn't. Sorry. I'm not really sure.

    Which was it?

  • Yes, you're right, she didn't confess, I made a mistake. I'll add an annotation now.

  • Damn, you're really smart. It's much easier to understand their characters now and how most of these events are effecting and changing their characters.

  • Thank you. I have many more videos if you want to subscribe. Glad it helped.

  • Yeah I watched most of them already lol. I'm gonna subscribe right now.

  • Hm. Damn, FOX. I would've liked to see part one. To understand the references you were making...D=

  • The link is in the information bar :)

  • I clicked it and it keeps saying that "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by FOX." and sends me back to Part 2.

    Thanks, though.

    ^^

  • Oh wow, cool thanks. I never noticed that. I must make a counter claim. I've had trouble with them before... :(

  • Just thought I'd let you know that part 1 is back up until the dispute is resolved. All the best.

  • hes the best character

  • So encouraged by the education based productive discussion going on on this board :p

  • I never pictured hale to be so bloody hott OMG! XD

  • OMG, JOHN HALE IS SO HOT!!

    XD

im so happy Robert Campbell potrayed John Hale. I loved him in the play, and he was my favorite character, but in the movie! OMG. lol

  • Well I'm not qualified to comment on how hot he is but I'm sure he portrayed Hale extremely well.

    :-s

  • thank you so much for uploading!

i really liked John Hale's character:)

    his acting is fantastic too

  • Thanks for your comment. I like Hale because he's honest yet doesn't abandon his faith despite the madness. His crisis is so moving and I thought Rob Campbell did a particularly good job of portraying him in the film.

    All the best.
