  • Oh wooooow.

  • Thank you for posting this, ethnic marketing by target is definitely off target

  • All it needs is a cashiers area surround by 6" of bullet proof glass, and high enough to see above the isles, but not so high that customers can't hand you money.

  • Dear Avatar, there is no campaign going since this speaks to just poor marketing and not understanding the nuances of Latino market. And please we got your point. We still think ethnic marketing bites. There is no offense here, just confusion. And if a "brown" agency did that, that's just sad. They have no clue about refit market, then.

  • The use of BODEGA gets lost in translation. Sure to a Mexican American consumer, the notion of a warehouse would work, and maybe this concept will find no fault in the Southwest. However, to an urban New York Latino, for example, the BODEGA is more than just a grocery store. It is a community hub, where the neighborhood gathers to get food products, buy their newspapers, get a beer, some smokes, their local gossip. Bodegas in New York City traditionally served an underserved community.

  • Where's the pineapple sodas? Where's the cactus fronds? Where's the yucca roots? Where's the Maltas? Looks like Target's half-baked idea went to shit fast being offensive in the process. And where's the cocaine?

  • @fdasherv we know right! we want our Maltas!!!!!

  • Bodega is a word in Dominican, Cuban and Puerto Rican dialects of Spanish that means something more than just a store, it is has urban roots in NYC and is more of a community gathering places and also a great place to get your 40s. :) Target has a very successful MI TIENDA campaign in Texas and it is amusing and perplexing to see their ad agency try to get more Northeast. Fail. Ethnic marketing sucks anyway.

  • It's the fastest growing market in America, the latin shopper. To not notice the hispanic financial gold mine is business suicide. The only color that matters in this country is green.

We have bigger problems than this homey

  • @AvatarOfAvatar It's not that this offends us. We actually find it sort of amusing but it sure is hell nowhere representing a Bodega and knowing how Corporations do in this country we still are not having it. Every fight counts!

  • @AvatarOfAvatar you don't need to have dumb ethnic campaigns to make $ in this country. This isn't a problem, homey, it is just dumb ethnic marketing. Just run a store right why do you have to pander to the Latino consumer. In the end more big brands will fail anyway to "prove" they are catering to Latino marketing. Just an observation, homey.

  • @LatinoRebels

Target is allowed to advertise any way they want to man, this is America. It's their money, they can do whatever they want. Before you get on some big crusade though, make sure that the person in charge of this ad campaign isn't brown. Whitey just didn't come up with this word on their own.

  • O.o That's odd. Is it a special section of the store or is it throughout the store?

  • @silentinmybody It is the back of the store, a special discount section

  • @LatinoRebels That is fucked up.

  • I'm guessing: Bodega -> Boutique -> Store.

  • Pardon my ignorance but what is bodega the spanish for?

  • @ismaithliombainne Bodega is a minimart where you buy the small items of Caribbean food that are not sold in supermarkets and stores like Target. There is nothing there that represents a Bodega! totally out of touch.

  • Hmm

  • @ismaithliombainne we just posted it above

  • @ismaithliombainne bodega is Spanish for Warehouse

  • @ismaithliombainne "bodega" is like a small corner market. You see a lot of them in New York, and probably other big cities. This is a horrible example though. heheh

  • BODEGA?

  • Holy shit!

  • I can feel the gringo's pain - if they put "hispanic" marketing decorations up there, they'll be accused of stereotyping.. so the only thing they can do, is put a big sign saying Bodega, over cheap crap. Don't get all huffy though.. we DO buy cheap crap..

  • @soopermexican Speak for yourself uncle tom!

  • @palantepoets I AM speaking for myself, pendejo. damn.
