That's why they released the hostages with medical conditions. That's why nothing exploded during the siege. Also, do you have any links confirmed that they were real?

There are couple of reasons why

1) They felt they could defeat the Russian special forces

2) They wanted to trick the Russians into killing their own people

However, I have researched this event and yes the bombs were in fact REAL. I was responding to his comment that the woman killed everybody. At the time, I was still unsure. However, since the explosives were real, that woman saved everybody by walking out.

Specnaz was perfect, but that woman that walked out was the reason why many hostages received a leathal dose of gas, because specnaz waited 40 minutes longer than they were suppose to. Shortage of medics was another reason, but that is the Moscow's official's fault.

The gas worked.

The 1995 hospital siege ended because Moscow, wrongly, wanted to stop the endless rape, torture and killing of innocent patients, doctors nurses etc by the muslim chechens. And in the usual muslim mujahideen style, they of course used innocent women and children as human shields.

These guys knew what they were doing. Still today it's a mystery how the spetsnaz were able to spread the gas so evenly. Normally in such a huge theatre, one group will be exposed to too much gas and die, on group OK and another group far too little,
