  • we sure got ripped right the fuck off in this deal

  • you suck stevedangle you realy do suck......go leafs go

  • na naa na-na na DION PHANEUF

  • Well I can tell you that to this day January 25, 2010. Panther fans are still very thankfull to Toronto for Captain Mac!!

    Thanks!!

  • @catfan927 your welcome. its not that hes a bad player it was just not working out. and van ryn is a very good player when healthy

  • im prettey mad at are leafs nation (no offense im part of leafs nation to) we should not hav booed him we should have game him a little stading ovation not like a mats sundin one but a little one come on seriusly back in the good times he was like the best top 3 player

  • Now he's named captain.

Sucks that after you lost Glass Colaiacovo who turned out to change his bones in St. Louis, you get Glass Van Ryn.

  • thought he was the one guy they might have kept..made him the captain..and build the new team around him..would aprobably kept Tucker too...but well..nobody should be givven no-movement clauses IMHO

  • no we wanted him to leave, not him wanting to leave

  • Florida still didn't make the playoffs so Bryan is really that good.

  • yeah because of a techniqually. we had 93 pionts and the habs had 93 pionts sooo thats fuck'd up

  • howd the habs get the tiebreaker?

  • they had 16 more goals then the panthers, isnt that bull shit??? i wish hockey had wild card games

  • thats so much bullshit if anytrhing the tiebreaker should be the season series between the 2 teams

  • Actually the Habs made the play-offs because in the season series the canadiens won the majority of.

  • McCabe was an excelent hockey player. I don't agree with that trade, now that I've seen Mike Van Ryn. (I'm not knocking him, I like Van Ryn, but McCabe was better.)

  • Hes not as bad as that douche on the habs, haha that was priceless, oh yeah and u cant forget, stars vs oilers and nic wallin ha.

  • atleast he would shoot the puck unlike kaberle lol

  • Dude That was awesome, we here in Pantherland are very happy with McCabe. Got really scared when he got hurt in the first game of the season, but since he has come back he has been a tremendous asset to the Cats!

  • ...except if you count that one goal by Souray on Raycroft.

    HAHAHAHA!!! Classic! AWESOME!

  • lol McCabes having a great season so far for my PANTHERS!and Van Ryn get hurts every season lol good luck with his gimp wrists lol

  • dude you look like John Tavares

  • Don't blow his cover!

  • oh god...bryan mccabe gave us the semifinals in 2004. you should be glad hes gone.

  • Yeah Steve, you also missed Lecalvier, St. Louis, and Staal as elites in that division. :D All in all good video as always though.

  • Steve just wondering where you predict the leafs to finish this year.. u have to figure that without Mats, Darcy, and McCabe that they would fall significantly lower.. the only real improvement to them is backup goalie, but even still as much as i like cujo, last year he was playing in the spangler cup, so you never know what you'll get out of him... btw love ur vids.. ur funny and u know quite a bit about hockey

  • Waiting for another video...lol.

  • nice vid steve dangle

    i enjoy them alot

keep up the good work :)

  • Ok mathmatician !!! The salary cap actually INCREASED for this season for all NHL teams. $5.75-mil this season will seem like a little bit less. The Leafs paid McCabe his $7.15-mil for last season, which comes from ticket prices. This is what angered Leafs fans. As far as the cap hit is concerned, if McCabe wasn't a Leaf, then the Leafs would be paying some other defenseman the same kind of salary. But I don't expect typical Leafs fans to understand that.

  • You're going off of your original statement. Goodbye.

  • Hey Darcy, that trade was pure genius by Cliff Fletcher. I have already sent a thank you card to our old buddy Jacques Martin, down in FLA. The Leafs will not make the playoffs this season, so why hold onto a guy you couldn't win with before? They need to build the team through youth, that means placing near the bottom, and drafting high..again.

  • uhh buddy... wth does it matter how much they are paying him... they allready paid him 7 and cant get that back.. his cap hit is 5.75 and the leafs arent going to win this year and by the time they are ready to win mccabe will be well past his prime.. hes a solid blueliner and florida got a good d-man in the deal, but its a win-win for both teams as the leafs dont need his services to have a charge for 9th...

  • Jay Bouwmeester is likely out of Florida this year, could be deadline, could be earlier.

  • Let's see. The Leafs have paid McCabe his $7 mil for last season, and are not going to be paying for his cheaper salary for the next couple of years, FLA is. Do the math geniuses.

  • I can't explain this any more clearly. They paid the money. I know that. THE CAP HIT IS STILL 5.75. End of story.

  • i no more about hockey then him and more about the LEAFS GO LEAFs GO

  • Cap space? At only $4 million + per year, McCabe is a REAL STEAL for Florida. Some teams are signing players for 7+ years. Not even the Maple Leafs are that dumb. What do you people out there know about hockey? Seems to me that most of you don't watch the game that much to understand it. Or just very bad math. Not surprising seeing that I never knew anyone that could do math better than me.

  • Y'know, you really shouldn't get all defensive when YOUR facts are incorrect. The Panthers are paying him $4million but his CAP HIT is $5.75 million.

  • Yeah, maybe the Leafs should hire you as their new GM. You're the end all expert, clearly.

  • that was @ DarcyTucker, btw.

  • man, you are normally spot on, but defending mccabe is wack. i know you are being objective and all, but hey, can't use olympic argument. PQ lobbied mccrap's presence on that roster (he taxied him eventually there).

and caber won't shut down ovechkin, semin, kovalchuk. not gonna happen.

so glad we are rid of this clown

  • Well put.. The can opener was such a big part of his game and his effectiveness, that after the rules changed, so did he. Remember we got him for a song. He has an absolute canon. dumb penalties though. the real question is, who will leaf nation release their scorn on next??

And whats up with all the dmen???

  • Love the video, but if Brian McCabe is good, and yeah, he has been great. Spectacular even, he also is a perennial 100+ Penalty minute a season guy. The better he is, the more screwed he are when he takes a dumb penalty. So who did we get in return? A Lady bing contender. SWEET.

  • florda's top 6 is bouwmeester, ballard, allen, boynton, mccabe and skarstins pretty good!!!!!! and they could play them in any paring

  • Fair assesment. I like Skratch. Solid back end for sure.

  • thier top 6 is probablt 1 of the best if not the best in the nhl when they r all healthy will it happen i dont no but got a felling it will i think mccabe is going 2 get 40-45 points this year not bad 4 a d-man and dont forget florda has been looking 4 a powerplay courterback seen b4 the lock out

  • he'll find his game making the leafs look dumb again, but im still all for the move he wasnt getting any younger, hes washed up and the leafs are trying to rebuild

  • he means welcome to the jungle as in toronto is crazy. The Media outlets towards players. More pressure to play well. It's a damn jungle. Its crazy. Way more media attention and Pressure then in Florida. Hope he's ready

  • what do you mean "welcome to the jungle", you always say that! does that mean "welcome to hell" or something? do you mean our team is just a crazy jungle or some kind cause that's really sad from a fan. i mean really sad

ps. please reply on this comment.

  • its a maple tree jungle. thats all

  • You cant deny its gotta be tough playing for the leafs. Pressure by the fans and the media have gotta take their toll.

  • oh yah in mike van ryn! was that a good trade?

  • thank god! but in exchange of what?

  • Personally, I don't blame the guy for leaving. He's probably one of the best puck handling defensemen in the league right now... just couldn't handle the power play.

  • "He's probably one of the best puck handling defenseman in the league right now"

Are you talking about the same Bryan McCabe that scored on his own goal, and coughed up more pucks at the blue-line in one season then Todd Gill in his entire career?

Kaberle might be in the top 5-6, McCabe, no way.

  • This was the last straw, among many prior, that convinced me that the Leafs are going to tank the season and go for Tavares. McCabe was an awesome defenseman and his offensive numbers were great too. Over the past few playoffless years he remained a positive +/- overall. It seems we like to nitpick the overtime goals against rather than those for, such as (not in OT) the final Leaf game two seasons ago where McCabe scored the GWG against Montreal. If the Isles lost, look where we were.

  • Great points in this video, in the back of my mind I kind of hoped that the Devils could acquire McCabe for a cheap price. Considering what some other defensemen in the NHL are getting, McCabe's contract actually is not all that bad. There might be some optimism in Florida, but they have that big hole left my Olli Jokinen which I think brings them back down to Earth.

  • Excellent video. Excellent judgement. Excellent analysis. Wow. I like also when Steve Dangle does such kind of analysis. Very well done.

    Pierre

  • I really didnt like this trade, for one now I need to rename my jersey, I think I will be the first person to have a Jeff Finger jersery ahaha

and secondly Van Ryan wasn't subjected to a physical to make the trade go through....how stupid is that, his wrist is probably taped on for all we know!!!...god this year is going to suck, but at least your videos will put a humorous mood on it =D

  • Hey Steve very good video!

And you are very serious today wow! Its good!

    ;-)

  • Hey Steve I agree on what you said about Brain MaCabe. But what do you think about what the leafs got back?

  • Aw man that blows!@

  • leafs shudve got more for mccabe. Mike Van Ryn is a nobody. Leafs got ripped off (even though McCabe sucks)

  • I've got an idea. Make Tomas Kaberle a center. He seems to shoot really well from the slot. He's not that great from the point.

  • actually he grew up playing forward, and after Campbell and lidstrom he is probably the 3rd or just 5th best puck handling defensemen

  • It is kinda sad to see him go. But maybe its time for a change .. I myself never really liked Brian McCabester.. but I will give him a lot of credit for what he has and will put up with.. Good luck Brian! Awesome Video Steve As Usual :)

  • So how do you think the Leafs will do next year with Mike Van Ryn?

  • Bottom line: he was the most over-paid guy in the entire NHL. Not to mention that when he decided to waive his no-trade clause, the only team he listed was the Florida Panthers. Kind of makes you wonder if he really cares about winning. We should all be thanking the Panthers for taking on his salary, and trading us a decent 4th d-man.

  • What are you talking about? Now that he's collected that bonus he only makes 4 million (5 against the cap) per season for the next two (or is it three?)years. Considering the market for a top-pairing defenseman, that's actually really good. Besides, the Leafs have plenty of cap space.

  • Cap hit, my friend. That's all the really matters.

  • I suppose so. Any idea how long Van Ryn is locked up for?

  • I think it's 1 year (And if he doesn't re-sign, then Toronto keeps their 4th round pick if I'm not mistaken.

  • McCabe was only really useful when he started playing like a defensive-minded d-man. When he did that his production fell right off the map. 5 million against the cap on a team that will not make the playoffs, is just plain stupid.

Do you honestly think McCabe would be a "top-pairing" defenseman on most of the playoff teams this year? The answer is "No", he is too one-dimensional.

  • He should never be the go to guy on defense like he was with Toronto, but with a strong partner I don't think he would look too out of place. He certainly isn't as bad as everybody seems to think

Cap space won't be much of an issue this year since the Leafs will probably be competing for a top five pick rather than a playoff spot. If all goes will that should change in a couple years, which is when you move McCabe. Im not against trading him, but I'd rather they not give assets away for nothing

  • The problem is most of the rest of the NHL didn't see McCabe as an "asset".

Cap space is always an issue in the new NHL, especially with a young team that needs to build at the right opportunities. There is no way in hell of them making the playoffs this year, so why hold onto overpaid players who you couldn't win with before?

  • thank god Brian McCabe's gone Steve! wot the hell were u talking bout ther McCabe has a good case fer staying with the Leafs! and he was making 7 million from us last season Steve! gee, since no defencemen thats ever played with the Leafs has much that much, I'd be expecting him to break club records for that kind of money, only Lidstrom and Pronger i believe matched that salary, and we know McCabe does not match either in skill.

  • and one question for ya Steve: Did u ever get the vibe McCabe was becoming a problem in the dressing room? Cause i did at times, especially towards the end of the season.

  • Actually, from what I've heard, McCabe was the most respected man in the Leafs dressing room for most of the season, which made a lot of people believe he would be the captain if Sundin walked.

  • rly? tis intersting, why did McCabe keep refusing interviews like he was doing?, i heard someone say that somewhere..... oh never mind, maybe he was just pissed cause the team was going no where, and, y'know, the whole 'media jungle' of T.O. thing prolli got on his case as well.

  • Honestly? No. He seems like a class act, to be honest. That doesn't make him any good haha but I never got that vibe. Tucker, despite sticking up for people, despite being a "leader", I got this odd little inkling.

  • Bum wrap? He was horrible, Fuck McCabe. fuckem.

  • i actually liked McCabe and i dont know why fans always bash on players when like 98 % of them cant do better or dont even play the sport or are any good at it at all and for all the fans who hated him when you see Bryan in a panthers jersey your just gonna remember the good times when he was here

  • Steve great video! Anyway wats up with Mats. I mean he should make up his mind. But I just read several articles and they suggested that Mats would fit in a rangers uniform. What do u think about that?

  • I think dropping the cap space and trading a guy with a NTC for a guy without one are good, but I think Toronto may have gotten the short end of the stick. Yeah MVR's good, but he's still overpaid, not as good as McCabe and won't be the captain, which McCabe would have been if he stayed. Really wish the Leafs could've gotten J-Bo, even if it meant overpaying.

One thing to remember - 8 years ago people thought it was dumb to trade Karpotsev and a 4th for McCabe, and it turned out great.

  • Steve, every Leaf that the guy who runs Die Hard Blue and White has written an open letter to has been traded. I think he has magical powers.

  • man, u make a pretty good case, dangle. he did have some good moments in toronto, though. i love how u mash in the leave bryan mccabe video. i hope mccabe does well in florida. oh yeah, and in the description where it says "stalk me," that kinda reminds me of charlestrippy. haha

  • That's what I got it from. I'm a fan of he and sxephil

  • Nice Steve

  • Yeah I think the trade was great! Mccabe is finally gone! Yes!
