  • oh em gee. im learning this in bandd(: 8th gradexD

  • The low brass is missuing several partials.

  • This is terrible.

  • Percussion sucked. Mallets were ok. But overall they sucked

  • ouuuuch, this was totally rushed.

  • 0:32 You're welcome

  • tuba please play it with emotion...not just play it like this!

  • Are band is half the size its about 40 people and its better than this

  • theres alot of percussion missing

  • We are playing this in my band and I play the flute and it is so hackin hard!! :|

  • what was with that sad trumpet beginning?

  • Where is the rachet and the flexatone?? the percussion part is not full.

  • Sounds good I have the bass drum for this for the concert this and was given the music Tuesday he'll ya

  • i played this in my middle school a few days ago! its pretty epic

  • i played this in my highschool wind ensemble. picc for the win :)

this is halloween was alittle fast, but i love this song. the band is only as good as the conductor lets them be...

  • I'm possibly the only one hearing this because i'm a percussionist, but they:

    1.Didn't play Halftime for Halloween

2.Rushed throughout the song , other than beetlejuice

3.Omitted the flexatone, rachet, gong, bell tree, and toms

    4.Missed a timpani roll.

5.Came in late with the tamborine for beetlejuice (and rested for too long)

    6.Epically dropped drumsticks at 1:26

And finally, the guy with crash symbals missed 3 crashes (basicaly just held them for display) only to half-fail the final crunch

  • @NightmareKight i agree 100% except at three i mean i could have been possible they didnt have enough people or instruments so ill give them the benefit of the doubt but the others were just awful.

  • @NightmareKight not only the timpani roll but theres a forte timpani solo at the beginning. These percussionists are scared and unprepared

  • @NightmareKight to me it sound like they are missing quiet a few parts

  • @NightmareKight im in the percussion too

  • Some of it was kind of hard to listen to, tbh. The director made a horrible mistake with This Is Halloween.. half-time is there for a reason.

  • I don't mean to sound too critical but some parts were just too painful to listen to. Also there was some accessory percussion parts that were missing, such as the suspended cymbal and gong.

  • Needs moar tuba!

  • @JuiceMudkip It would have had more Tuba, but it was my fault my buddy there @jamesPRIMED is a great Tuba player. I was playing Tenor Sax that year because it was a while since I played it.

  • Could have been louder at the trombone fall.

  • Trumpets rule >:)

  • yeah... on Halloween , it needs to be slowerr (: but overall good jobbb

  • Trumpets rule!!!

  • go baritones!!!!!!

  • @multiducky107

I played this piece my freshman year on B-tone. Very fun XD

  • Wonderful job, but it's extremely important to be paying attention to detail (timings and dynamics) especially in this piece. This piece is written very precisely on how it is to be played. Like I said, and many others, attention to detail is very necessary in this piece!

  • damn you flew through "this is halloween" should be half-time. other than that excelent job. i play tuba myself

  • @rhinoMCD good luck for your band rhino

  • Were there any bass clarinets? I played this my senior year for our spring concert, and I was on bass clarinet. I loved it!!

  • Are you guys a College band?

  • Just beautiful!

  • Comment removed

  • were playing this too

    @redbook29

OMG thank you!! i was watching like.. uhhh too fast. hah

  • Our bands playing this and we rock this song :D o and, TROMBONES FTW!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol im in 6th grade an we killin dis bcuz we actually read what the music says (HALF TIME at this is halloween)

  • yeah the biggest mistake i found was that you are supposed to go half the speed when you start playing "this is halloween". I am in 8th grade and we are playing this for a concert :)

  • this is halloween should be played at half the speed of the previous section. that's why 'half time' is written on the score at the beginning of that section!! that's a bad mistake...

  • @duggs95 Don't know how the conductor missed that...

  • Clarinet solo needed to be louder in 'This is Halloween' but otherwise, amazing.

(I'm a clarinettist, so sorry if I'm being picky haha)

  • @Keira13 Yeah, I noticed that too. Clarinetists for the win! |D

    -highfive-

  • @delayedreactionx

    -highfive-

  • haha my band is doing that!!!! xD its awesome!

  • @Ravenlikestodrum your such a dork no shit were doing that but actually blaser's not for sure yet you do now we have 4 peices in the folder and we can only do 3 for pop concert!!=)im excited and @Keira13 i totally agree with you the clarinet solo should have been louder of the trumpets should have been softer to! but i to am a clarinet player it is so much fun are you in marching band???

  • @lilelf16 i feel stalked.

YOU TINY BALL OF HATE YOU!

  • @lilelf16 yes, actually I was in a marching band all throughout highschool haha.

  • my school is playing this for a compeition on a cruise

  • only problem was that tuba seemed to be a lagging a bit when it came to the solo in the entrance of Beetlejuice

  • such a powerful song, played this in my high school song, brass did a great job, as well as the mallet player

  • my school band is playing this for spring concert

  • my districts honors band is playing this song:)) its awesome!

  • Actually this is Halloween is right where it"s supossed to be so dont give him shit

  • SSounds great! I looked this up because my school band is also playing this!

  • Loveee the woodwinds..and isnt "This is Halloween" much slower? other than that good effort :)

  • that was really rushed at some points..it sort of ruined it

  • jesus. your percussion sucks. we played this when i was in high school with two percussion... and yeah. i mean they're probably okay, but they're rushing like crazy. and the girl on mallets is crazy inconsistant, but at least she's trying.

everyone else sounds really good though!

  • Oo....ur flutes are freaking angelic... especially at edward scissorhands.... :DDD

  • waaak sorry but i've heard better bands for this composition. tales from the cryptkeeper is too slow, this is halloween is way too fast and spider-man is really off too

  • this song NEEDS bass

like, literally, a bass, an electric is good, a double bass would be good too

and it needs to be LOUD

i mean, half this song is a driving bassy melody, and bassoons and tubas cant handle it, its gotta be the driven sound of strings

  • ITS an arrangement for wind ensemble..... Electric bass is very inappropriate. The Bari Sax part- if played right- fills the sound out completely.

  • well thats an opinion

a bari sax has a very offending tone which would NOT be what one wants in an arrangement like this

nor would you want a tuba's blubbering

which is why the mellow deep sustain of a bass is perfect for dragging the low chords along.

  • bari sax if played well sir does not have an offending tone. the arrangement is written with the lower end to be played by the bari sax, and the third and fourth trombones, along with the tuba playing the lower registers. The tuba can have a very mellow tone if played correctly, and as intended by the arranger whom i think has more of an idea of the required timbre than you do to be frank.

  • well considering most of the pieces comprising this arrangement are written with a score including at least one bass, i think it deserves a spot

also, the tuba has a mellow tone at a mellow level, this piece is driven by the bass line. the melody is in the low register and is written to be powerful.

if you can find a bari sax that doesnt honk and a tuba that doesnt bellow when the piece is played ff and ill give you a cookie

  • I think the issue is not which instrument is assigned the part, but how competent the performer is in interpreting the part and their competence at the instrument. If they play the instrument like a cliche then yes it shall sound awful, but if played with talent there should never be any need for a bass guitar in an arrangement for this type of ensemble. An electric bass or a d bass would be the one creating an offensive, out of play timbre in the arrangement in question

  • yes, the musician himself requires a lot of focus, true, but the instruments are different for a reason, and that is to acquire a different sound.

in this particular piece, id say about 80% of it (excluding the boring flaky stupid spider man interlude) is completely driven by the bass line and the drums. a bass' tone wouldnt be offensive here, it would have the required power. the particular arrangement is essentially just several snippets arranged to have some sort of structure and a recap.

  • these werent the arrangers songs. they were danny elfman's, written to include a bass.

  • sick i'm playing this in band.. Trumpets own.

  • me too, and yet trumpets own!!!!

  • wuz up homeslice....im gonna be playin the same song (but more beastly) for my upcoming october fall music...im in 9th grade french horn ( 1st chair of 6-7) im playing it in cut time then later it jumps around back and forth from cut time to 3/2 time im from Hurst Junior High if you dont know this school....we're the little brother of L.D. Bell High School ..... good performance :)

  • playing the same in my fall concert gonna be cool

  • this was ok. there was rushing, bad and/or wrong notes, and out of tune playing. but overall i thought it was a nice performance

  • thats a cool stage

  • niceee=D

    I'm playing this right now!!:D

    I loveee it<333

  • this is REALLY good, we did this this past year in middle school, 7/8 band.

i can pick out my part lol

  • i played this at band camp....rehearsed like 4 songs in 4 days

im only on 8ht grade!! this was extremly hard

i squeaked which was kinda embarassing

  • HAHA. I have a concert today and were gonna play this too. We sound the same, but we dont rush lol.

  • Comment removed

  • at 1:55, you sped up REALLLLY fastt

    it was incredibly noticeable

jus sayiin,, good job thoo !

  • lol, they chose to use furious as their half time! but anyway, i'm my band's first chair tuba, and i have a lot of solos. our low brass sucks except for a select few people. "This is halloween" sounds really cool with the sped up parts, minus measure 37, that dosn't sound good

  • Yeah, This is Halloween should of been wayyyy slower. It's in half time. Not regular time. But other than that, great performance!

  • this song is really GREAT!

  • We're gonna play this at my school! It's amazing!

  • were playing this and were gona put video clips on a a screen behind us of the movie that were playing at the moment and turning out the lights=)

  • Comment removed

  • :) we might play this for the concert at my school too

  • what band are u in

  • awesome! our band is playing that for our concet! we r only in middle school though im in seventh grade

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas part should have been slower, but other than that, great performance.

  • the flutes sound REALLY nice at the edward scissorhands part

  • Also, the flutes sound really nice.

  • Hmm. This band sounds pretty good. Could be balanced a bit better, though.

  • Why is a University band playing an obvious "pops" or high school work?

  • oh man spider man go messed up real hard...french horn is out of tune horribly as well

  • mised the timpani roll at the end of the edwards scissor hands part

  • very nice. good job of showing how fast yall can play that lol but very good job on actually playing the write notes and what not

  • our junior high school is doing this piece in may. im so excited! :D this band is really good i wish they would have slowed down a lot more in some parts though but overall its good. gotta love danny elfman! :)

  • are yall nervous because yall are rushing through the piece riverside middle school did way better and we are just middle schoolers

  • maybe

    thats how they learned it

    =P

  • Thats not how it's written though

  • lol

    haha u got me beat

    idk

maybe they have different sheet music

    cuz im pretty sure

    that their ARE variations

  • I'm a horn player (:

I love this piece, it's amazing!!

    xxx

  • I am playing this piece in about a week. im a clarinet player. i think this is magnificent, but i think This is Halloween needs to be slower

  • this was a little fast but other than that it was awesome! year playing this song in our spring concert i love it! btw i play trumpet!!

  • it was good. but i agree it needs to be a little slower at certain songs. very good tone on the high woodwinds! im a clarinet player myself, and i thought the clarinets and flutes sounded wonderful!

  • im a clarinet player as well, couldnt agree more..but the "this is halloween" part needs to be slower

  • jess lancaster from collingwoodcollege sixth form year 12 is playing this

  • We got this song in band today and our teacher showed us this video. The first time i saw this medley i literally was bouncing in my seat with joy-ness. I LOVE DANNY ELFMAN!!!! He is an awesome composer!!!! Beetlejuice!!!! GAHH!!!! NBC! TFTC!!!!! SPIDERMAN!!!! GAHH!!!! I love it so much. Our band doesn't sound this good......yet...

  • i absolutely loved playing this song in my band, but i think this version is a bit too fast.

otherwise, bravo! i wouldn't have been able to play it at that speed. :P

  • This is halloween was way too fast but good piccolo solo, cause i play the piccolo and my band played this song last year

  • im playin this song in class rite now xD

who's school is gonna compeate in the haritge festival? i wanna noe

  • their drummers are off time

  • this is great !

  • Omg we're playing this in our school band right now and I'm playing the bass, I love it so much! AH!

Very fast but so much fun to play!

--I think that at 3:18 they played the fall into Beelte Juice too fast

  • woah way too fast guys. Now i know what my teacher meant by killing the song if you go to fast

  • tuba needs to be louder.

im a tuba player myself, and we played this just last year. I really enjoyed it, and loved the tuba part. im the only tuba in the band myself.

  • from what i hear to fast (i at least cant hear base and im a tuba its my job to know) and it didnt seem together if ur a band from high school rething your music cuz we OWNED U

  • seems too fast

  • i agree i play this in escb and this is halloween is meant to be half the speed of tales from the crypt

  • true

    i think ours sounds better

  • yeh :D

what do u part do u play?

    im 3rd trumpet i just joined :L

  • percussion

  • oh coollies that parts amazing :L what u playing in percussion

  • anything

yesterday i played triangle, temple blocks we have like 6 percussionists

    XD

  • my middle school wind ensomble played this, this one doesent have enought percussionists

  • Its good but it needs alot of work. Sounded like everyone just wanted to play their best but ended messing up.

  • The Orchestra is consistantly off.

    Thats just my 2 cents

  • tempo! guys improve that!! and the trumpets at first did a really bad job and sometimes tooo fast!

  • what is that in the first and the last part called?

  • the last part of the song, is the theme from spiderman, when the credits role this is the song that plays.

  • oh now I know, I don't know what's the original english title, but in germany it'S called "geschichten aus der gruft" - a cartoon series with ind of horror stories^^

  • I was the tuba player on this recording. The first part is the theme from Tales From The Crypt...I think that is what you are talking about. And yes the last part is the Spiderman theme.

    -J.

  • @jamesPRIMED You did a great job!! it sounded good

  • don't hate.

yeah, flutes are the besttt (:

  • this is a excellent piece from Danny Elfman.

now i think you guys did an alright job, but im going to pick out some thing i thought you could do better, only so, you guys can improve on them. first thing throughout the entire piece i notice balance problems, this is a wonderpiace but most of the time, the important parts were drowned out. mostly by percussion. Gameworks344 talked about timing and tempo, i fully agree, there were spots that you could watch. i also noticed a bit of tuning problems

  • isnt this a song from kingdom hearts in halloween town lol good job!!

  • Well, at least they tried. D:

  • Watch for tempo and dynamics.

  • Hey, I think it was pretty good. Not great, but good!

  • too fast during the edward scissorhands part. especially the beginning. got better towards the end.

  • we play better in our band

    we play this song

  • D:

I have to play all of auxillary [sp] percussion and this saddens me.

    :/

  • Wtf? the trumpets cover up the clarinets at mesure 58 - 89!!!!

  • I agree wtf is going on with the percussion, the timpanist doesnt have a clue!

  • the transition between crypt and halloween is from fast to half time, not speeding up.

  • wheres the tom toms? wheres the gong? wheres the flexatone? wtf is going on with percussion? its a shame.

  • dude this sucks shit.

  • wow..

the intro sucked and halloween was too fast, and the percussion was way off on spiderman

  • lol in the music it cuts to half time at "Halloween"...they didn't ;]

  • ya this is halloween is played really fast. i tryed singing to it and it was hard.

  • Why is this is halloween so fast?

  • eh, the trumpets are too loud at the halloween intro and the eighth notes after. actually, the trumpets are too loud all the way through. i can give a full review, but there's not enough characters here...great job all in all, though!

  • that wasnt bad but the trumpets kinda over did it at that one part. YEAH! flute rocks!

  • avon marching band is the greatest.

i can't wait til marching band next year.

    <3

  • Me too.

  • That was painful to my ears. I'm in a 9th grade band and we are better.

  • Man I loved playing this...Danny Elfman is amazing!!! Of course I still think the Batman theme should have been there...I mean hello the Batman theme IS Danny Elfman!!
