  • I wonder what we would sound like speaking in his native language? Probably not as good as he speaks in ours....food for your thoughts and opinions.

  • it's so adorable the way they take turns to hold the oscar! hahaha :) - first time i watched this film it was shortly after my grandmother passed away, was totally reduced to tears and it continues to move me even up to today, absolutely wonderful and poignant film.

  • It's one of those movies that continues to sink in long after u finish watching it. Profound is the only word I can find to try and describe it.

  • I have watched this movie over 200 times. The best film

  • congratulations from argentina

  • I was so captivated by this movie. I really shows that really beautiful music speaks ALL languages. The cast is this was mesmerizing to watch and listen to. They all deserve this award. The music is just one good thing about this movie. It had the perfect balance of drama and music. If no one has seen this movie I SERIOUSLY advise to.

  • Gratitude is appreciated in all languages. Beautiful film.

  • Ryoko's still looking young after so many years, like a high school student, couldn't believe!

  • I don't actually remember this part from the Oscars, but I saw the movie today. It deserved the Oscar.

  • this is the thank you cam, probably behide the stage.

and hey, did you notice the music while watching? it's just so calming

  • @waivedwench

Right on, waivedwench.!.....I agree completely with you about it deserves an Oscar. A chef-d'oeuvre no less..

  • i watched this movie 2 nights ago at my local theater and i was very impressed with this movie when i saw the lady in the black dress in the movie iwas like damn what a milf i too was rooting for waltz with bashir

  • i love the scene when he clean the gay dead body. As soon as he touched the thing..lol he moved back very quick to his boss lololol..

  • @yeymerockstar79

as for me, i like the scene of his father's face reappears in his memory at the end...His father's face was brightened with pride, love, tenderness, hope for his son....EXQUISITE !!!

  • This movie is qualified to win the best pictures of the Academy Award this year. No Hollywood funk movies can be compared with "Departures." By the way, I am Chinese, and yet I like and respect it.

  • @panshiun

I am vietnamese and i say: I salute the director and the actors of this film. This film is the finest beauty of Japanese's moviemaking. It will probably be my favorite for a very, very longtime.

  • Ryoko can't speak English???

  • A must see movie. It'll make you laugh and cry.

  • @Luckymongoose27 Well said, my friend....i agree with you totally.

  • This movie was so damn good, I'm still in awe over it's rare wonderfulness, and i saw it 5 weeks ago! It's probably the best Japanese film I've ever seen in the drama category.

  • you guys are great. a great film! I just saw the film, and I'm so glad you won :)

  • touching warmhearted movie

  • This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Although Japanese, I have lived for many years...this film crosses all cultures in how it displays the death of a loved-one and how we would want that person to be remembered. Please give this film the reverence it deserves....you will truly be touched and believe how each day is important in our relationships with one another. Arigato Departures!

  • @dragoncpo

I like Departures because it opened my eyes to see that the act of preparation for the death is beautiful because it is done with love. It is a professing of love that the family the departed wants to convey. And like you said, i can appreciate more the life and what is the essentials in life ..and how should we live so that we die, how do we wanted to be remembered? Bravo, Departures...You did well.

  • I saw this film yesterday ... it's so touching and makes you think so much afterwards ... and the soundtrack, I'm going to buy it !

Just one thing is that a Cello being left untouched for so many years would really need to be tuned --- for quite a while before you can play with it. Would have been more convincing had they played attention to that, but anyhow it's a great movie and Motoki is such a great actor !

  • @joliewoo

Your knowledge about tuning up the cello makes me think that you are a cello player, aren't you? I bet you are...!

  • i'm surprised Motoki speaks so well too.He took the effort to learn the cello which makes it more convincing, and complete the process of cleaning the body in one single take without revealing any skin literally.

  • Yeah, what the last person said was funny XDDD.

    Congrats to all! :D

  • @DaisenpaiHigashi

i agree with you....j9621042 makes a lot of sense, hey? Although i havent watched Waltz with Bashir but somehow, i believe i can understand what he wants to convey. Could j96921042 be jewish?

  • Some people had already predicted that Waltz with Bashir would not win it.

The Gaza massacre perhaps had changed the judge's mind and Okuribito was a fair choice. That is politics.

    But Okuribito is good anyway

  • really ?? I don't know that. How come the academy chose judges from the original country of the nominated movie ??

  • Wow I dunno Motoki can speak this well... maybe Yayako (his 0930) coached him beforehand

  • well after the massacre in Gaza...we can punish Zionazi Israel a bit cant we?

  • shade,

don't you think a film should be judged on its merits? the fact that "waltz with bashir" is a rather forceful anti-war movie renders your comment particularly odd.

should we judge movies based on atrocities committed by the countries of origin? no one will come out smelling too good...

  • @shademurtagh

Right on, bro...!!....i love the sarcasms in your word: Zionazi....you are quite an orator, aren't you? I love it !!!

  • wat the last guy said, LMFAO. that was hilarious!!! aaaah Japanese rock. i really want to see this movie now. OMEDETOU!!!!

  • Who said Tomo Arigato Mr. Roboto? That part was hella funny!

  • the guy who won for best animated short "la maison en petits cubes" i believe.

  • I want to go and see this film now!

What the last person said in his thank you was pretty funny xD

  • even though they are not fluent in english but japanese people are great.. they are very hard working people and yasashii.. OMEDETOU GOZAIMASU!!!

  • my FAV ryoko!!!!! she back!!! i love her

  • Ryoko!...She is so CUTE!!!...I could "depart"...she is so cute...

  • ryoko said she love Japanese movie so kawai 最高

  • haha... ryoko hirosue

  • haha so funny at the end. mokkun's english is amazingly good!

  • I liked what the last guy said. awesome.

  • すごくかっこよかったです!!でも英語もうちょっとがんばったらなって思います。

  • This movie is incedible!!! They derserved to win!!!! Whoo hoooo!!!!

  • i was watching it this morning and when i heard that Japan's one of the nominees, i prayed that they would win, and they did! i was so happy. then i was surprised when i saw Hirosue Ryoko-san went on stage. she's so beautiful. simple but very beautiful. Omdetou Gaozaimasu!!!!

  • Gratz to Ryoko-sama and the rest of the crew on the amazing win.

  • So? Who cares? English isn't his first language. So... What's your point? Suddenly everybody must be completely fluent in English because they win an oscar?

No. Please go travel, or perhaps get an education.

  • @epicwater

Your phrase: ''No. Please go travel, or perhaps get an education'' is PRICELESS!!! What a punch!!! Ouch!!!

  • It's not necessarily for oscar winners to speak english fluently. your comment only shows how ignorant and arrogant you are.
