Ka's have a lot more low end torque than sr's when you throw a turbo in em'. Sr's are are good for drifting. I'd rather have a small engine like the ka or ca, just so I can make a beast out of it and show sr's whasss good, yuh dig.
I never post comments, but I feel compelled. I love all types of cars. I think everyone gets stuck on horsepower and forgets about torque. Look at a dyno graph of a 600hp sr20 and a 600hp 5.0. you will see that there is a huge difference in power production. on the street the sr20 will feel almost useless unless driven hard. while the 5.0 will feel like you are never in the wrong gear. BTW I drive a TSX with a K24.
@jernut : may be true that a bigger engine will have more torque, but a 5.0 will never be as light as an SR. therefore the weight distribution of a car with a big engine like that will not handle as well around a corner as the car with the lighter engine. also with less weight, and better handling, the SR powered car would be able to exit the corners with more power, because it can be at a higher RPM, and because of the power to weight ration, it will accelerate faster.
The 5.0 was only used because of the previous post. Not really the best engine to talk about. Outdated and not the best in it's day.

I quick searched the weight of the sr20det and found it to be about 350lb. The viper v10 weighed in the 500hp range. sr20det makes what stock. i think the most was around 250hp 200 ft-lb. viper v10 500+hp 500+ft-lb.
Calculate the power to weight ratio and see who wins.

just pony up the dough or get used. or goto a local hydrolic shop(i.e. heavy equipment) and see if they are willing to rebuild it I've pulled them apart and replaced seals before for under $30 and works just fine if you know what your doing but I know them too because I do lots of rebuilding hydrolics so it might cost you a little more still under $100 to have them do it I'd imagine.
i would actually have to say the 5.0 mustang. 230+ hp and 300+ ft lbs, and 2700 lbs. those cars fuckin boogy. the car and parts are extremely cheap. infact cheaper than the 240. but i love them both so.
the 5.0 is one of the greatest blocks ever built. tell me if your little 240, or honda that will handle 550 rwhp on stock internals? and do it reliably for 5 years. that 550 rwhp comes from 24lbs injectors, custom intake and a intercooled 70mm turbo. oh and a metal head gasket. thats about it. the motor is great. not only that, the 5.0 is soo much cheaper on parts. if you do somehow how get rod knock or something like that. a FULL engine rebuild is $320-$340.

Dude there are 2JZs running 600+ all day long on stock internals, i believe the record is somewhere reliably around 800. An SR20 has been known to run at least 400 HP on stock internals, and its got 40% of the 5.0's displacement.
hondas can be fast, but that is after you put money into them. like those k20 eg hatches, thats an expensive swap. the motor, trans and ecu altogether cost somewhere around 5g's. thats from japan. but yes honda's CAN be fast. but hey, after you do put that swap in and run itb's, standalone, and full exhaust. god damn you have a car that will sound like a god.

No way. That thing had stock cams (based on the stock sounding idle), so it probably had stock head, and internals. There is no way its making that much. The most I've ever seen an NA KA make, was like 190 something. KA's make NO POWER without boost.
PDM racing in vancouver made a stock KA with intake, header, exhaust, cams, and ecu reflash make 195whp and 205ft/lbs. Their next goal is 250hp on stock internals, no boost.

Hondas were built with both performance and economy in mind. Though they have strayed far from thier performance roots as of late, Hondas were built to be high reving road motors. If you take out limiters via hondata, and do abit of exaust intake, and cams work they are rather fierce cars. Hense why thier are all motor honda's running 9's and lower all day at the tracks. Those blocks are close to bullet proof especially the b18 GSR.
he has the exhaust coming straight from the header out the front fender. Thats normal for it to backfire like that because all internal combustion engines do it. You just don't usually see it because it has the exhaust system chopped.

What about shifting? One car might have to shift more on a given straight away.

You "could" do that, or you could go buy a BMW. I'm not specifically hating on the great "5.0" but frankly, Mustang only makes good motors for cars that don't carry their name. The 5.0 gives completely shitty numbers as far as anyone who can operate a calculator can figure.

Actually... hp per liter is extremely important as it dictates the potential of a motor. Then again, you would have to understand air and fuel ratios for that I guess.

Dude there are 2JZs running 600+ all day long on stock internals, i believe the record is somewhere reliably around 800. An SR20 has been known to run at least 400 HP on stock internals, and its got 40% of the 5.0's displacement.

hondas can be fast, but that is after you put money into them. like those k20 eg hatches, thats an expensive swap. the motor, trans and ecu altogether cost somewhere around 5g's. thats from japan. but yes honda's CAN be fast. but hey, after you do put that swap in and run itb's, standalone, and full exhaust. god damn you have a car that will sound like a god.

KA vs SR is a never ending battle
When modified the KA has more torque, the CA has a monster power band, and the SR pulls higher hp rating.

No way. That thing had stock cams (based on the stock sounding idle), so it probably had stock head, and internals. There is no way its making that much. The most I've ever seen an NA KA make, was like 190 something. KA's make NO POWER without boost.

PDM racing in vancouver made a stock KA with intake, header, exhaust, cams, and ecu reflash make 195whp and 205ft/lbs. Their next goal is 250hp on stock internals, no boost.

240sx never came stock with a turbo. The "JDM" ones are silvia's and 180sx's. In europe there also was a 200sx that was the same body.

oh really? because the 2006+ z06 corvettes have ran 10's right out of the factory, there's plenty of videos to prove that, corvette z06 is rated at 24 mpg on the highway, while rsx is rated at 28, so I'm wrong about that, but 7 liters getting almost the same as a 2 liter engine is amazing, especially weighing 400 more lbs

Hondas were built with both performance and economy in mind. Though they have strayed far from thier performance roots as of late, Hondas were built to be high reving road motors. If you take out limiters via hondata, and do abit of exaust intake, and cams work they are rather fierce cars. Hense why thier are all motor honda's running 9's and lower all day at the tracks. Those blocks are close to bullet proof especially the b18 GSR.

he has the exhaust coming straight from the header out the front fender. Thats normal for it to backfire like that because all internal combustion engines do it. You just don't usually see it because it has the exhaust system chopped.
