  • What a wonderful song. Edgar Winters you're a G for this one.

  • Anybody Have The Acapella To This, I Got The Dying To Live Instrumental By Pac, But It Doesnt Have The Hook, and idk how to strip vocals, so help me out and send me the vocals if you have it

  • Eminem sampled this song. Thats the only way I know it.

  • This isn't typically my taste in music but who can deny lyrics as powerful as these? Bravo Mr. Winter..

  • "I grew up a fucking screw up, got introduced to the game got an ounce and fucking blew up. My nigga Biggie Smalls trying to turn into the black frank white"-B.I.G.

"My history with the police is shakin' the crime rate. My main man had two strikes, slipped, got arrested and flipped, he scream 'thug life' and emptied the clip."- Tupac

  • @deeppwns Thank God He is sooooo merciful !!! We ALL have made big mistakes, but God uses them, and perfects them..erases the past, holds our tomorrows, so we can enjoy, and be in the moment....Freedom in a perfect second ! WoW !! Thank you, Daddy !

  • @FrozenVodka1 I think he's saying he sees no life in the living..if u understand that. But im not sure, just my interpretation.

  • this is the most beautiful song i've ever heard.

  • what does he mean hard to tell the living from the dead?

  • This is real SOUL......I love this shit man !!

  • Is it just me or this is actually a really depressing song? Sounds like it's from someone who's thinking about suicide, or someone who's in the hospital on life support.

  • @jethyy Yes it is actually a song from the view of someone going through depression. Someone who has gave their all, and been through so much that they don't know what else to hold on to. But still decides to push on even though their is no hope.

  • I've heard it said there's Humour In Misfortune, you know I wonder If they'll laugh when I am Dead......

  • Why are you down here? The music is coming from the video up there

  • for everyone wondering, this song is from the 70's tupac and biggies version came out years n years later!~

  • Wow, why haven't heard this before? This is amazing and easily beats Runnin'

  • I find the cross amusing because the guy who did this song is a Scientologist.

  • I was jamming with some old guys at an open mic event last wednesday. They started playing the intro to this song and i like OMFG tupac!! lol

I didnt kno this song existed till then.

  • this one is from 1971 tupac and biggies version is made in 1994 by eminem.

  • @evop123 Pretty sure it was in 2003.....

  • @evop123i think eminem produced the song in 2003... after Pac and Biggie's deaths...

  • @koreanlyte oh sorry, you're right

  • You know I used to live my life as an illusion

But reality will make my dreams come true

So I'll keep fighting to live till there's no reason to fight

And I'll keep trying to see until the end is in sight

You know I'm trying to give so c'mon give me a try

You know I'm dying to live until I'm ready to die...

    AWESOME LYRICS!

  • is he using tupac quotes??

  • @moz199322 this song was made in 1971... Eminem sampled this song and just mixed with pac's and biggie's verses.... I love 2pac with all my heart, but like this version better :)

  • play this song at my funeral

  • Dammm

  • Soooo emotional this song have so much meaning. I actually started to cried powerful words.

  • @MegaDiva1212

I goitta agree, few songs have real emotional meaning. Words that penetrate the thoughts. This song made me realize many things and I really felt this song unlike many others that are just for fun.

  • I GREW UP A FUCKIN SCREW UP

  • Powerful words

  • i am a big biggie and pac fan and i know this song because of runnin but the original version is better

  • wow im seein the same comment like a million times. we already know its been sampled if the comments already on here.

  • Pac sampled this song. Thats the only way i know it.

  • @Beatlesrule123 You mean Pac's ghost? Don't think he did himself?

  • @howiboy 2Pac sampled this song in his song "Runnin (dying to live)"

  • @Beatlesrule123 Eminem and Dre did not Tupac, just because they used his voice don't mean his ghost appeared in theh studio, that was my point.

  • @Beatlesrule123 Pac didn't sample didn't sample this it's just when Eminem made Runnin he took this chorus and switched it with the Runnin from the Police song and gave it a difrent beat

  • @Beatlesrule123 eminem sampled it on a song called runnin from the police by 2pac and biggie

  • @Beatlesrule123 technically eminem sampled it cause the original version sounds way different. but it is a beautiful song and eminem did good with the sample of this song.

  • @Beatlesrule123

Actually, eminem sampled this in Runnin' (dying to live) in 2004 as a tribute to pac and biggie.

  • @Beatlesrule123 2pac didn't sample it the song was released in 2003 and Eminem sampled it technically because he produced that track

  • @Beatlesrule123 Pac never sampled this song, Eminem did and added Pac's and Biggie's verses. :)

  • @Beatlesrule123 This song was sampled long after pac died.

  • @Beatlesrule123 Actually Eminem sampled this song and used Pac & Biggie acapellas.

  • @CMakaveli91 that post was a year ago, dont bother

  • Ok George...read ya loud and clear. You are absoltely right...

  • damn man i had no idea that this is the song they mixed with that tupac one a long while aho, damn, this guys awesome! I love it!

  • it makes me nauseous that you would put Biggy and Tupac on this parallel.. their talent would'nt make a pimple on Edgars' ass....

  • @jcronin97 how can you say that, there' two different genre's of music, thats like saying Man utd would beat St helen's at a game of football even though there a rugby team, Tupac and Biggie are an inspiration to millions, you shouldnt discriminate genre's you don;t like just because your musical tastes aren't as open minded as others

  • good

  • eminem sampled this in "Runnin' (Dying To Live)"...one of the most underrated producers if you ask me

  • I can't stand rap but if Tupac and Biggie brought this tune back to life that is one very significant musical act because this is one of the greatest written songs of all time sung by one of the greatest artists!

  • Great song. I love the piano playing and the strings.

  • How is this song not a GOAT?

  • @anakin808 Actually, it's because of Eminem that you came across this song

  • I've been listening to Edgar Winter and this particular song since abou 1971. I'm glad to see folks like the late great Biggie, Tupac and Eminem are also recognizing this great song for the younger generation. Love and Peace ....

  • Sin palabras.. =)

  • Came across this diggin on the hook of runnin as well.. this is a lifetime favorite. Iincredible song.

  • God... what a talent!

One of the most under-rated singers, musicians and songwriters in modern music.

  • biggie ?? tupac?? We were lovin this song wayyyyy before those guys

  • @hmmr90 want a cookie?? no rewards for fan fucking.. Eminem was the one who produced that song anyway, he put the beat and this song in the mix, so its a good white helping white story.. Make you feel a little better?? if so, you are low.. if not, you are a quite the fine fellow..

  • greAT SONG

  • its sad that this song was only discovered because of Tupac, and just to say i do love tupac shakur's music its just i knew this song long before Runnin(dying to live) was even thought of...

  • This is one fine piece of song writing. I saw Edgar do this in LA in '86 live and it's fantastic. I wish that Otis could have covered it with the Stax crew. That would have been stellar. Maybe someone like Sharon Jones or someone of that caliber will do it.

  • Edgar did this song a LONG time ago guys. Not sure about Tupac or Biggie or their versions, but Edgar did this song during the Vietnam era.

  • @MontyGirl550

I think the Tupac and B.I.G. version has just been sampled of the original.

  • @MontyGirl550 eminem produced a song for the Tupac movie. In the song he sampled this song and put verses from Tupac and Biggoe on the track. Beautiful original song and the rap song compliments it

  • @Tranquilnoise

My son had me listen to the Eminem version and I have to say it wasn't bad. I like that he realized what a great song this is, and wanted to use it. It is confusing though, b/c I didn't know if it was Tupac, Biggie, or Eminem who did it! Thanks for clearing it up for me. :-)

  • @MontyGirl550-Yep, this song was made waaay back in 1971.

  • Comment removed

  • @MontyGirl550 1971, same year Tupac was born, not sure if that is a connection or just a coincidence.

  • Amazing i miss 2pac :( RIP

  • this song is orgasmic. Thanks 2pac

  • this is hot

  • check it i grew up a fuckin screw got introduced to the game bought an ounce and fuckin blew up chopping rocks over night that nigga biggie smalls tryna turn into the black frank white we had to grow dreads to change our discription 2 cops on the milkbox missin

    and so on

  • @MrMozeley Grew up a screw,eh???

  • This was my dads favorite song..and now i can say its one of my favorites I had trouble finding it on limewire though=[

  • A beautiful counter point in our day and age. Remarkable. Indeed.

  • @S3RiOUS, are you saying 2 pac created the song? hard to understand but this song was like 60s or 70s

  • OK people I like it but..he didn't (2pac) create this song, this is remix. He even didn't say these words...a lot of people think that it is a quotation from Pac, I think they are in mistake

  • @TheS3RiOUS lmao its obvious that tupac didn't create this song only ppl who don't know music would think that. tupac didn't even make the song him and biggie was on Eminem produced it after they both had died he sampled this song

  • i found this song because of jonny lang's cover of it. he did an amazing job, if you like this you will enjoy that in my opinion.

  • @anakin808 u and almost every1 else

  • WOnderful song

    I appreciate a lot

Thank you very much for posting

  • this is one of the greatest songs ever written by anybody. I am trying to do a remake right now.-kingpinder

  • A young man sung this song at my Uncles funeral last yr and I was amazed. This is a beautiful song that has unbelievable meaning, I will never forget this song and everytime I hear it my Uncle comes to mind. RIP Uncle Butch.

  • who needs psychological counselling when you have edgar winter?

  • This is an amazing song backed by a quality video :) If anyone fancies looking at a different video please check mine out :) All feedback is appreciated! x

  • Extremely soulful song coming from like the whitest man on earth

  • What a nice song ... MY GOD.

  • eminem should've used the last part of this song in runnin'

  • Is this Edgar Singing Or Dan Hartmann?. It sounds like Todd Rundgren.

  • good song

  • 2Pac- Runnin' ... Thank you guys!! :)

  • Wow what a song, em should have left it at this pace on runnin

  • @JakesInPayne

a lot of artists, when they sample other peoples voices for chorus and such seem to speed it up, and alter it. I don't know why either. it gets annoying when everyone sounds like a fucking chipmunk.

but this particular song sounded like cartman to me.

  • @AudioInklined when they add the sample to the song it gets sped up because of the tempo.if it didn't it would not be on beat with the rest of the music

  • i really love this chorus, its strong and good!

  • I love this song :)

  • stfu the only reason people even viewed this video is because they found out about it from tupac's version

  • @Rame230 U Is Tru About Dat Bcuz That Tha Reason Im Here....But I Like Dis Song Bcuz He Speakin' Real Shit(Life)Real Recognize Real...Is Jus Not About Tha Words Or Whose Singin' Tha Song....Its About The Message Tha Person Deliver In Tha Song...Always Remember That

  • lmfao im trying to make a beat with some shit like that song so i checkd out this song

  • @Rame230 nope. i was following an edgar winter thread. i could give a toss about tupac shakur. followed lee benoit to dr. john to edgar and johnny winter. headed on to johnny cash and roy orbison next. this song is a drag.

  • @Danjoekel75 why would you say Tupac should have died what he talked about was great stuff like How people are in poverty you propally saw the bad stuff about him but if you look closer he has a heart for all the songs that he wrote tupac wanted a life like everyone els i guess i do 2 it makes me think should this guy be really talking like this telling people he deserved to die or maybe your the problem iam not saying your are but have another think about it

  • @Danjoekel75 Let me ask you are you religious

  • @Danjoekel75 Tupac is a music LEGEND buddy. The stuff he rapped about was like poetry, speaking his mind on worldwide issues. The kinda rap you are referring to is that garbage by Soulja Boy, 50 Cent and those rappers who only rap about money, getting women and objects of desire. You have it all wrong my friend.

  • @aznthug000 Thats Whats Up...Skool Dese Dumb Ass Niggaz On Youtube...Real Recognize Real...2Pac Real Rap/Soulja Boy Gay Rap...

  • this is way better than Johnny Lang's version.

  • I love Johnny Lang...but you got it right...Edgar nails it on this song....great lyrics....great melody....by a talented man...my friend Edgar.

  • this song is so tru

  • This is one of the realest songs ever recorded, REALLY listen to the song and you'll see that it's inspirational.

  • "if your sad this song might make you kill yourself "

yeah i kinda agree lol but good song

  • Sigh Edgar played at my high school in the 70s,,,,,He was awesome!!

  • Some of the most prophetic lyrics someone could ever write..............have we all felt this way, or is it just me??

  • When i first heard the song, it gave me soo much belief in myself.. I now tend to look at life differently without having a subjective view...

  • does anyone actually know where this cross is located. i have a picture i took on my phone driving thru the midwest that looks exactly like this cross.

  • I just cant believe how underrated this song is. the lyrics on te chourus might just be the most beautiful, the deepest words ever written.

  • have you ever heard Jonny Lang's version of this....sooooo beautiful

  • so where is it

  • truly an awesome song that I heard 20 years ago when I came across 'White Trash'.. seen Edgar live back in 92' at the Slippery Noodle Inn in Indianapolis, an amazing voice/musician

  • this song has a beautiful depth , and is very down-to-earth while staying true and meaningful, thank you edgar for making this. 10/10

  • I thought that was the cross outside of Amarillo, TX. the largest in this hemisphere

  • Edgar is wonderful, especially on this album. A classic for me, without doubt!

  • beautiful

  • Johnny and Edgar were neighbors of ours....righteous guys they both were..one of the most beautiful inspiring songs ever written.

  • Wow! The Cross @ Effingham, Illinois. My wife and I met for the first time there on the 4th of July. Cool town and great song. Thanks for posting!

  • Wow, this song gives me so much hope :)

  • Been feelin' mad depressed lately over losing 900 dollars gambling.. I tried to deposit more money in my account today and last week as well but my bank thankfully put an international block on it.. haha and then I came across this song and I don't feel bad anymore. Time to put everything in perspective and stop wasting my money, I gotta use my money to give and help people out even if the odds are against me. Great song.. really changes your mood.

  • the odds are always in your avor, all you need to do is help one person, if that works, you have beaten the odds, you are the best

  • @ravkes yeah, been there man

  • best of luck bro

  • Wonderful song. Great lyrics.

  • I need the lyrics and chords to his entrance album, desparately!!! HELP!!! I

  • Yes, Amazing, i AGREE with you.

    5*****

    Well done dude.

    Dennis

  • This song is amazing, the chorus of running by tupac ft biggie has part of this. Love itt, edgar winter live on forever.

  • so glad I remembered this song-beautiful.

  • Funny how the man up above works. Edgar, you bring it home!

  • this is such a good song!!

  • i only knew this tune from biggie and tupac but i like it a lot :)

  • Edgar wrote this song back in 1970 I think it was.

  • Good lord, he can sing. Does anyone know if he has any more good soulful songs like this?

  • Just listen to some of he and his brother Johnny together. They are some of the best guitar and sax I've ever heard. Seen them in 73. BLUES..........

  • alright thanks!

  • FRANKENSTEIN!

  • gee, maybe you should tell him

  • There is so much awesome music out there from the past to the present but this song has always given me chills and remained a favorite. Thank you for your gift Edgar and thank Life for giving us you.

  • Nobody, NOBODY does this song like this. I don't care how many remakes, retakes or whatever came along after it, this is the real deal.

  • you are absolutely correct

  • where is this cross its really big

  • I really like this version probably more than the TuPac Biggie Version

  • This is the original. Edgar Winter wrote this back in 1970

  • Wow! Fantastic! Never heard it before. What a great voice Edgar Winter has, and a beautiful song.

  • This song can truly lead you to the meaning of life.

"Why am I dying to live,

If i'm just living to die ????"

  • what do you mean

obviously your dying to live cause you dont want to go, but either way its gonna happen you try to avoid it. there your answer

  • hes tryna say that ppl are bustin there ass to live but its makes it seem as if were all robots just here to live nd die. kinda like the pursuit of happiness, not the movie the real saying

  • The crucifix is a nice touch.

Edgar Winter's a Scientologist. Wrong kind of crazy =p

  • White men can have soul...and they don't get much whiter than Edgar

  • That is just funny.

  • Johnny winter is an exception to this...
