  • What the hell is so bad about sexualization? Oh I get it. You're an ugly feminist who resents the pretty girls for getting male attention. Stop projecting your Victorian sexual hangups onto women who are comfortable with their sexuality.

  • @TruthandJustice101 Ugh, people like you make me upset. The point is that the kind of images we see influence us. It has nothing to do with feminism- I'm not a feminist, but some of these made me feel sick.

  • Now Masturbating to pornography I would say presents a problem in the area of psychic influence upon the person in the Image, and other problems. But just pleasing yourself is something else altogether. :)

  • After repressing it for so long it's busting out. We lose it when we see a nude lady on the beach. In tribes you don't see little kids tripping on anyone nude because it is just a naked body and they are use to it, We hide it make it a mystery and wonder why we have a problem.

  • This is worse than when you see a woman in a tribe with her breasts showing for all to see, or just a matter of perspective. People repress sexuality so much that it turns into a problem. And they project onto others what they can't except about themselves because they are either brainwashed in their spirituality or become to civilized. We have generations of hiding anything sexual and wonder why people are so messed up sexually.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, sharpen your claws, sharpen your fangs, toughen your hides, and settle in for what looks to be the fight of the ages.

  • ... And ultimately, when necessary, we must fight. And THAT is the other overarching issue: Men treat other men as equals only when they see that their peers are willing to fight back against both insult and injury. If women want to be seen as equals, then they must behave as equals. Not pets. Not toys. Not slaves. Not anything other than a force of equal magnitude.

  • The immortal "Men vs Women contest" is a false dichotomy. The idea that women (and indeed, men too) should or should not be sexually objectified is of no significance when viewed from the larger perspective. We cannot stop other people from being racist or sexist or elitist or whatever-ist. But we can stop ourselves - if we choose to! And ...

  • It's a repeating pattern throughout human history. The same old dance with a new tune for the modern era (whichever era happens to be modern at the time).

So, no, the real problem lies in the overarching human desire to control other humans. Which in itself stems from the desire to control one's environment. Many people would point to MEN ALONE as the sole perpetrators of all that has gone wrong with the world. But this is not a male issue. It is a HUMAN issue!

  • ... we had the Victorian era. Both men and women repressed their sexuality (like vulcans repress emotion, to make a salient reference to Star Trek). But womens' sexuality was so heavily repressed that the concept of "hysteria" in women was considered a diagnosable illness, and doctors had a very special treatment for it. And, since time immemorial, people have been selling their bodies because they had no other means, and other people have been vilifying them for it. ...

  • To me, the real problem is not that women are being portrayed as sex objects in various media. In fact, part of that phenomenon is the result of the women's sexual liberation movement from the '60's - women wanted to be perceived as more than just another household appliance or a trophy wife. Before that, women of the western world were struggling just to be acknowledged as real people, instead of a father's or husband's or brother's property. Before that ...

  • As with any progress in society, sufficient desire to change must exist: That is, the desire to change oneself in order to effect change in the world. But the women in these pictures are real people who made a choice. Either they didn't see a problem with what they were doing, or they needed the money offered more than they needed to hang onto principles.

  • This video clip that is supposed to show that women are sexualised actually managed to turn me on rather than inform.

  • At 6:54 the video says "what can you do? stop supporting magazines that feature women as sexual objects. Do not buy them! support a positive image of women."

This is a very positive message but it won't actually be acted upon without an alternative magazine for women-- one that features them as professional (slightly sexy, maybe only face-wise) breadwinners, achievers, academics, painters, poets, athletes, sisters, mothers, and friends.

  • being fat isnt a positve thing ....why did they show the pictures of the fat women after saying they should use positive images of women.

  • media also portrays women as housekeepers. and don't forget about pop music, great source of descrminating and objectifying women.

  • @gusyamatusya excellent observations.

  • what people forget is the effect on men as well. If men see women as only sexual objects its almost impossible for them to have a healthy sexual relationship

  • Comment removed

  • what about us poor men who are heartlessly objectified in the media? it's simply just awful, it makes me want to cry into a pillow

  • @feckitism giveme five examples when men were portrayed as objects of pleasure for women?

  • @gusyamatusya I can't even think of five examples where the MEN are portrayed as objects of pleasure for women. If such a thing were attempted, my guess is that most people would label it "gay" in a heartbeat.

  • I find it funny/horrifying that Dove, the company that makes the "feel good about yourself" ads is owned by Unilever, the same company that makes Lynx, a product which fuels it's advertising in the blatant sexualization of women.

Don't trust any of it, the Media is a lie.

  • "Psychologists call for replacing sexualized images with positive ones" Yeah, good idea. 1) Asking for control over the media, how reasonable. 2) Endorsing obesity in a nation where obesity is a pandemic. Bravo. Interesting how the message was against sexualization of women and they correct by sexualizing fatter and older women. So in closing, sexualizing attractive women bad, sexualizing unattractive women good. This movement is based entirely on jealousy of beautiful women.

  • "Blow smoke in her face and she'll follow you anywhere" hahaha. What a legend! The truth is that women are in fact sexual objects and have been since the beginning of time. I think it's feminists who are out of line with reality and need to overcome their seething jealousy of women who know how to play the game.

  • @professorfoxtrot OK, I'm not going to say much about objectification, I feature bare-chested men on my book covers (I'm going to hire Prof. Foxtrot as my next model--he judges other people's looks, so he must be perfect!); but did anyone notice the shot of the painfully skinny red-haired woman? Isabelle Caro died at the age of 28 from the effects of anorexia. We're not jealous (with women like Scarlett Johansson and Megan Fox calling themselves feminists, why would we be?), we're concerned.

  • @authoress1 Some actresses will do it for effect, for the media attention and so forth. Like kabala, adopting illegitimate babies and getting married 15 times. But where was the outrage in the 1950s when women were much slimmer than their grimmace-sized descendants of my generation? The odds of dying from anorexia are a mere fraction of the risks of dying from obesity, heart disease and diabetes. When I hear the phrase "anorexic bitch" from the jowels of some cow, she's not voicing concern.

  • Hello, I'm a model, I enjoy food...believe it or not. These forums are always interesting to me. First off, Majority of the time, it's WOMEN objectifying WOMEN!!

NOT MEN!! e.g Men aren't buying Run-way outfits on stick thin models, Men aren't buying kylie, katie perry, gaga....women are. All these pop icons totally objectify women. So yes, men do contribute, but women love bringing down women more than anything..."Skinny Bitch"!!

If you don't like it, don't support it. EASY!!, isn't it!

  • but how many better songs could've been chosen as background?

  • Moreover, I don't see what the gender makeup of the corporation has to do with the issue. Isn't that sexist? To say that because men own a corporation, that it is bad merely because of their genders? I know it's PC to hate men, but I don't want to be a part of it.

  • Aren't most of these ads in women's magazines? Women are the main consumers of magazines, and most magazines are made for women. There are male models in these magazines which goes ignored by gynocentric feminists.

These "sexist" ads are everywhere in American society, yet more women are suffering more from obesity than anorexia or bulimia which throws suspicion on the results of these "scientific" studies.

About-face is an org site, that's not very credible, even in freshman term papers.

  • Numerous studies have shown many stupid things that are not true just as these studies make false correlations that no showing causality.

Objectification seems to be a natural process as animals "objectify" all the time, so demonizing the inclination is a war against biology. I see the theory of objectification as really another means of sexual repression.

  • @Ichliebemusikundybd i"m a woman you sexist pig

  • My art work is concerned with beauty and the media and how women are portrayed to be this perfect figure when in fact photoshop is used to enhance features or removed spots and fat areas. This video conveys the message that women are seen as only sex objects, they have become like objects in the sense that aesthetics take over the performance. I have a profile and group on facebook that display my works would love your feedback, search Steph's Digital Art! thanksx

  • i dont think at this point in the GREAT MORAL DECLINE of society women are thought of as anything else...... if you imagine a women doing ANYTHING , like answering a phone working at a grocery store, or helping people out, you will imagine a beautiful, skinny, model looking woman. Nothing is realisticany more. women are objects, tools, and have been since the beggining of time. It will only get worse. we expect nothing moreor less from women. and we have absolutly no control over it.

  • The issue I have with this video is, though the images shown after all the "bad" sexualized images, they are still sexualized. The "positive" images show women who are comfortable with their figures and curves (which I think is amazing) but, they are still sexualized. They're in underwear, no clothes, or in extremely provocative poses. This still shows women be sexualized. I think we need to ask why women can't just be confident with clothes on. Assess the power of sex in a misogynistic society.

  • @445568 Yes, I think it would be better if they wore burkas while accepting their overweight bodies.

  • @Markohoppis Well that's your opinion. My thing is this. Is obesity more prevalent than bulimia and anorexia combinedyes! But obesity is another form of eating disorder than we as a society do not like to recognize because a rail thin person is easier to pity than a "glob of fat". Are women the main buyers of these products? Yes! And that is because from children we are taught that this is acceptable, this is beautiful.

  • Obesity is mostly the result of consumption of processed foods such as fast foods, white bread, TV dinners, breakfast cereals that contain high calories and sugar combined with a sedentary lifestyle.

Anorexia and Bulimia probably result as a combination of biology, personality type, and environment. But the same is true for alcoholism, and many other things. With the obesity epidemic in America, obviously these images are not having a great impact if any impact at all.

  • @Markohoppis Obesity can also be caused by emotion strain, mental strain, binge eating etc. Obesity can be caused by an eating disorder. As a counselor I know many women and who eat for comfort. Its their personal defense mechanism. If you have strain or stress of any kind and your coping mechanism is eating, this can lead to an eating disorder. If you are preoccupied with looking a certain being a certain weight, you will not always starve yourself. You may give up and just eat.

  • @Markohoppis Bulimia and Anorexia are not biological. They are learned behavior from surroundings. There are countless studies to prove this. Whether you have the obesity or the anorexia/bulimia argument is pointless. Both are dangerous and unhealthy. The images that the magazines promote have an extreme influence on both parties. Why the girls who strive to be thin are told be thinner to beautiful, the obese are told you are fat, therefore not beautiful. The impact of these images are huge.

  • I've read countless studies and the studies use correlations not proving anything (cause and effect). I didn't say just biological, i said a combination of biology, environment, and personality type. This would explain why the disorder is rare in the midst of an obesity epidemic. I think most women don't strive at all (overweight, obese), some strive to be thin but healthy, and a tiny fraction have psychological problems with a genetic basis that leads to eating disorders.

  • @445568 If we continue to go uneducated on the sexualization of women then we have lost the battle. Both sides of the spectrum are wrong, but what gets more publicity? Who are the young girls of the world trying to be like? They try to be the thin sexual women they see in magazines, that they are told are beautiful and they are, my issue is, is it healthy? That is how I am raising my daughter, I want her to be healthy and know her value outside of being a sex object. That's all.

  • @445568 Companies are making money on women and men's insecurities. Male enhancement, make money fast schemes, exercise programs like P90x and the many ab inventions. With women, it's always been the weight and beauty issue that companies exploit. As long as the idealized woman remains unattainable to women, the more money women put into buying the products.

There are more female university graduates than male, i don't think women are in any danger of becoming mindless "sex objects."

  • @Markohoppis no not mindless sex objects. Intelligent thinking sexualize women. What disgusts me is the fact that when these women are sexualized, their mind and intelligence isn't the focus/ When we sexual people, their value is in how physically appealing they are to the buyer. Going to college has nothing to do with this because for all the stats of higher graduating rates within women, men still control 93% of the corporate world. So explain the 93% control by men.

  • @445568 There are many magazines and other forms of media where women's mind and intelligence are in focus. Why make the generalization that these pics represent all a person comes across in their daily lives? The writers in female magazines are generally female.

I don't know where you got the statistic for 93%, but male power in corporations is rather off topic. Does one need power to be intelligent or be motivated to pursue knowledge? Did Socrates or Jesus hold positions of power ? No.

  • @Markohoppis it could argued that they did hold power because they could sway a group and impact people for a long time. Its not off based at all. I don't who is writing what. Most magazines at the super market that women write (backed by male corporations) have things like "5 positions to please your man" or "12 ways to be more yummy". Yes there are many other forms of intelligence media that influence, but these are the ones we see at the market on the street etc. Its a constant reminder.

  • @445568 I believe a prime motivator that makes women want to look sexy or sexualize themselves is to attract men. The most desirable men seem to generally choose models, actresses, strippers, and playmates as their mates. Maybe that is why physical beauty is so devalued in lesbian culture and highly valued in gay male and heterosexual male culture.

You don't know the writer of the article, but you know the gender makeup of the corporation? The market decides what sells, not men. Women do.

  • @Markohoppis then we have come to an impasse. The gender make up of the corporation isn't female. The face or front is but not the backers. Major stock holders are men, major influencers are male. Women buy because they seem to be by women but they are not. You can say and believe what you like and I will do the same. Whether men or women push sexualization, it is unhealthy and wrong. I wish I could show you and prove it but I don't have the time to waste on someone who won't hear. Goodnight.

  • @445568 I don't know what the gender makeup of the corporation is for these magazines, but I do know that there are tons of magazines you can buy to enlighten yourself. Psychology Today, Time, magazines on science and physics. Women don't have to buy these sexualized magazines, but do anyways thus supporting these magazines. Magazines that don't make money fail. Women are really to blame for these magazines.

  • Nice video.

You're right. It sickens me how women are now viewed as sexual objects by some people, mostly in regard to these magazines and other forms of media that support an unhealthy, so-called "perfect" body image of women.

I wish I knew how to stop it for good. I do my best to be a role model to my little sisters and brothers and peers.

  • Objects? How so?

Would you buy the magazine with a 900Lb women on the front?

Would you pick up a McDonalds burger if the ad was of a burger falling of the bun and half cooked?

Would people enroll in the Army if they actually advertised the casualties versus the college opportunities they do???

This is not the issue. Ultimately, we will all experience sex. It's inevitable. Your kids play with "BABY DOLLS" that come with BABY BOTTLES, pampers, etc.

    Now...Protest the army wars

  • @enjoythekill666 Women are "objectified" by all heterosexual men. When men walk on college campuses, the mall, or any place else, they see a beautiful woman with a great ass and great breasts and fantasize about her sexually without even knowing anything else about her thus making her value only sexual.

If you want to stop it, you could exterminate male heterosexuality or just men in general.

  • @enjoythekill666 It sickens you how women are viewed as the objects of sexual desire? Really? What alternative to procreation do you suggest then?
