Without Damon and Matsui the Yankees have lost the totally fearsome lineup batters 1-9. Can they still win without that lineup, we'll know in October.

From a baseball standpoint I might be able to see why the Yankees let Matsui go. But as an expat Yankee fan in Japan, I know that the Yankees' profile won't be as high here in Japan without Matsui or another prominent Japanese player despite their being champions. Less Yankee games will be shown on TV (vs. almost every other game during the past few years), and it's a safe bet that the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper's ad in the outfield at Yankee Stadium won't be there in 2010.

It is so stupid that they signed Nick Johnson over Matsui. Johnson isn't even a power hitter and Matsui is the most Clutch Yankee and the past 6 years.
