  • Ummm what was that at the beginning.

  • @thechanman16 It's something that went on in the early 90s when a commercial break was going to go on where the fire hydrant was a bully to the dog. Here the fire hydrant licked the dog, in another one the fire hydrant said "after these messages" and sprayed the dog with water and then said "will be right back, and another one the dog announced "after these messages" and the fire hydrant roared and grew and scared the dog away with the fire hydrant saying "will be right back."

  • that does not sound like Bluto.

  • I know theres an alternate version of this commercial that was made, but i can't find it outside of a quick clip used in a Youtube Poop.

  • Umm Popeye didn't sellout he was promoting oatmeal for breakfast. It would be odd for him to promote spinach for breakfast considering the fact not too many kids eat spinach for breakfast .

  • I know the aim here was to get Popeye to convince kids to eat oatmeal. But why him? Why not He-Man or the Real Ghostbusters or Papa Smurf?

  • @maxwestcomics He-Man would be good since he's got big muscles like Popeye but, I guess the reason why they had Popeye for this commercial was because, on the cartoons it showed Popeye eating spinach whenever he was going to make himself stronger when he was going to fight Bluto. Maybe they wanted to show Popeye eating other stuff since oatmeal can make you strong like spinach. (The Real Ghostbusters and Papa Smurf don't look muscular which is why they're not on this commercial)

  • SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS!! GOD I MISS THOSE DAYS

  • This is worst then the Cookie Monster claiming cookies are now a "sometimes" food. WTF!

  • I'm Popeye the Sold Out Man! Toot!

I'm Popeye the Sold Out Man! Toot!

    Need doubloons for extortion

    And pay Olive's abortion

I'm Popeye the Sold Out Man! Toot Toot!

  • Comic actor and mimic:Billy West does "Popeye's"voice here..BTW:This is not the first time that"The Old Sailor"promoted hot cereal instead of Spinach..during the 1930's on"The Popeye Radio Show"..he promoted"Wheatina".

  • Lol popeye wants a Quaker

  • oh thanks dynomitis

  • He said damn the spinach and he's a well knowed icon o_0

  • Popeye didnt sell out. Kids love popeye and kids like oat meal. So basically popeye +quaker oats+fun cartoon= happy healthy kids= big increase in stock for quaker oats= more money.

  • In Popeye's defense, who the heck eats spinach for breakfast? That's why he advertised Start, an old minute-maid type frozen orange drink.

  • 0:29 Popeye sounds like Joe Alaskey

  • Popey must have a big dong! Why his lady never left him.

  • I'd never say this but,I miss those Popeye Quaker ads.

  • @mrmjb1960

I had never seen them before. Do you have any idea when they were made?

  • Is this Billy West doing the voice? Whoever it is is doing a GREAT job!!

  • Damn the spinach

  • Did Popeye say the D-word?

  • @MultiNintendoGamer CAN the spinach. Not DAMN the spinach.

  • Thumbs up for the extra ABC bumper!

  • Stop and think, the next time you eat a Quaker Oats product. In the late 1940s and again in the early 1950s, breakfast food containing minute amounts of radioactive iron and calcium was fed to a number of students at the Walter E. Fernald School, a Massachusetts institution for "mentally retarded" children. The National Institutes of Health, the Atomic Energy Commission, and the Quaker Oats Company funded the research.

  • @minggnim how did you go about finding this out, that's pretty fucked up.

  • "When you character derail, you will epicly fail, says Popeye the sailor man! (toot, toot)"

  • @JMFabianoRPL Ok, I gotta give you props. That was actually pretty creative.

  • @drstrangeq Where's The Commercial That Jim Cummings Voices Popeye?

  • Bluto from Popeye Quaker Oats Commercial sounds like Razoul from The return of jafar, Aladdin: The series and Aladdin and the king of thieves.

  • What? Popeye ate Quaker Oats instead of spinach.

  • I heard on the radio back in the early 90's, Quakers were calling up the Quaker Company complaining about those Popeye commercials.

  • So I'll get even stronger from eating apple and cinnamon oatmeal than I would from eating spinach?

  • why arn't there any spinich ads with popeye?

  • Popeye sold out!!

  • Popeye sold out when Hanna Barbara started animating him. Terrible.

  • @anthraxyulfo To Popeye's defense, they did put weed in his Spinach before this.

  • Popeye is awesome. I miss him.

  • He said Canned the Spinach, not Damn!

  • Was that Joe Alaskey doing Popeye's voice?

  • lol nice

  • This is a beautifully animated commercial - I also think Olive is really cute in this.

  • This commercial hasn't been seen since 1989 because the Fraternal Order of Quakers objected to Popeye using force to solve a problem and to Olive's permissiveness.

  • Did you mean the Society of Friends?

  • @samacal That was why the Popeye characters were removed from the Quaker oatmeal and bag cereal packaging.

  • If Popeye's parrot...were Bluto's...then Olive would love him.

...I still don't get it. xD

  • yeah your'e not really supposed to..it's one of those random material solutions (i.e. if i had a brand new car..i could get girls..) you probably won't..and if you did it would eithe r be to drive thecar or drive them around..

  • Actually, Popeye said "Can the spinach"

  • LMAO did he say DAMN?!

  • Popeye sold out what the heck!

  • popeye sell out!!

  • "Popeye! Your spinach!"

"DAMN THE SPINACH, I WANTS ME QUAKER APPLES & CINNAMON OATMEAL!"

  • This has to be the best-looking piece of Popeye animation produced ever since the theatrical shorts ended. Heck, I think it's actually even better-looking than the theatrical shorts!

And I'd have to agree with the other guy's comment, especially what with the semi-recent contaminated spinach story.

  • In Popeye's defense, Instant Quaker Oatmeal tastes WAY better than spinach.

  • And probably more healthier, too.

  • @NinjaGhostScorpion Especially canned spinach.
