A 4 Horseman Unit of Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, Gino Hernandez,, and Arn Anderson would have cause riots in the crowd wherever they went. Flair as the champ, Arn as the rugged enforcer, and Tully and Gino as the over the top, cocky, rule breaking tag team. The NWA would have melted due to that heat. God, what should have been.
Gino Hernandez had an abundance of the things it takes to be a superstar professional wrestler... Looks, talent and the ability to sell it on the microphone. The Farrah Fawcett pictures put this promo waaaaay over the top and it's nearly 30 years old! Damn shame a rising star this great had his light extinguished so early.
It doesn't surprise me that Gino tag-teamed with, and trained with Tully Blanchard at one time.I see many similarities between the both of them, especially with the yway they cut a promo, and dress outside the ring.
@sammys70 I hear that bro'. I was fortunate enough to see Tully and Gino during their run in SWCW when I was a young kid. These cats were the greatest heals, talkers and could make any match look great. Ashamed they were never were able to leave their mark in the WWE...
@marcntexas I never had a chance to see Gino wrestle back then as i didn't have cable, and i could only watch Mid-Atlantic wrestling on a antenna.I grew up watching the 4-horsemen,and i think Gino would have beed a perfect fit for them back then.
@sammys70 A definite perfect fit....it must have been something to watch Mid-Atlantic in its heyday. Very developed promotion for it's time.
I miss those days...regional promotions. Competing promos brought out the best. Now we have this monopoly promo, which will remain unnamed, running things and it turned the business into a joke. Even though as a kid I knew it was probably fake, there was always that seed of doubt in the back of my mind.....
Talk about a star! Damn, Gino was only 24 here and could cut a promo better than most, plus he had the looks and charisma. My God, what a future he could have had. Really sad.
watching b/w footage of Hitler speeches at the reichstag and Gino's old interviews I think they have the same blood line!!!,...it's better to fade away than to burn out:"wildfire"!!!
What a great promo man, I swear you could swap him and Ric Flair in this interview. Had he lived he most CERTAINLY would have a reign as World Champion, most CERTAINLY would have been a Horseman, he most CERTAINLY would be considered one of the greats, and he would most CERTAINLY be in the Hall of Fame. I recieved a set of burnt to DVD promos and matches, and he was the "True" total package.
Gino wouldve made a PERFECT horseman. I believe he controlled his own destiny. He couldve made it big ANYwhere. He just had that"it". Damn shame he was gone b4 he got a chance 2 experience the big expansion of pro wrestling. He woulda been a megastar
Too bad Gino's life was cut short. The handsome half breed had greatness about him. He was a helluva rule-breaker in the ring and an arrogant SOB behind the microphone. You gotta luv the guy. There will never be another like him
Gino Hernandez worked a few "guest shot" matches for the WWF in 1980 or 1981. I believe he wrestled "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe at Madison Square Garden, and I know for a fact that he wrestled Johnny Rodz on "Championship Wrestling" (a 10-minute draw). Gino had all the potential in the world and was on his way to greatness, but it was snuffed out by his addiction to cocaine. His is a great example of a "what might have been" story.
@elc1960 I think he could have been a pretty big star in the WWF and had a good feud against Randy Savage. I heard somewhere he had a match with Bob Backlund for the WWF title as well.
@CadillacL I like Michael Hayes work as Smackdown booker and he has been great the past few years but if its true that he wants to create a new Dynamic Duo team in Cody Rhodes and Drew Mcintyre because they remind him of Gino Hernandez and Chris Adams, then its not going to work. Cody although he is a good cocky heel, doesn't have the ability like Gino to get people to hate his guts and Drew is ok but he has no personality.
Gino Hernandez really should get credit for helping to introduce the young, arrogant prick heel type gets the ladies that is and was copied by guys like Edge, Miz and Shawn Michaels. CM Punk is the best thing in wrestling right now. The guy works his ass off to get legit anger from fans in a era where almost everyone is inside to the business. He is like the Gino Hernandez of this generation. He annoys and makes you hate him so bad you wanna buy a ticket to see him get his ass kicked.
Man, you forget how great Gino was back in the day. I loved going to the Sam Houston Coliseum and watching him wrestle every Friday. Thanks for posting.
@theenforcer1977 Gino would have made a fine Horseman. Before leaving for the Carolinas, Tully Blanchard had a fine run tag teaming with Hernandez in the Southwest territory.
classic two portland legends right here. Gino was a big face to start his career in portland and that I believe was the only territory where he was a face. Portland was wierd like that. rotten ron star, Adrian adonis and jesse ventura were in portland as well during each of their only face runs. And well Roddy is god up here

Wasnt Gino teaming with Chris Adams when he died? Does anyone remember? It is really sad that his life ended so young.
don62snodgrass 2 months ago
@don62snodgrass They had broke up as a team with Adams turning face. It would have been a great feud but Gino died of an apparent drug overdose.

@DavidFullam that's a very good call. Gino Hernandez would have fitted right in when few ever could.

The beauty about Gino Hernandez was that he was his wrestling persona. He was a brash, arrogant and reckless star. He did not act it, he lived it.
