@LincolnLLoyd yes i seen it to many years ago she locked a men in a safe and he put a piece of paper in the light bulb thats how rith gordon got caught by columbo
@kellyklove Right, I think it was her daughter or nieces husband? Sent him into the safe on pretext of having him retrieve or search for something, then once he was in deep enough, called him on her relative's death and slammed the safe shut. He scratched an arrow into the safe deposit box faces that pointed to the lightbulb wherein was hidden his hand-written note identifying her as the killer. If I've got it wrong, it's something pretty close to that scenario-my favorite all time show ever. =]
p.s. Don't forget she was not just an actress, but a writer-- of screen and stage plays. She was part of the group of great writers back in the 30s, she was friends with Alexander Woolcott and the Algonquin Round Table people (Dorothy Parker, and other good writers of the time.)
I fell in love with Ruth in Harold and Maude. Actually, I fell in love with Maude but that wouldn't have happened if Ruth hadn't brought such love and energy to the role. RIP Ruth.
In every movie that I've seen with her ( Harold and Maud, Wheres Popa, Every Which Way But Loose, Boardwalk, My Bodyguard and Rosemary's Baby ) she was elderly,.. and I've always wonderd what she might've been like as a young gal ? Looks like she'd lived through just about every era of the past century. Thanks alot.
A remarkable actress. I would have put her on the "person least likely to succeed" in Hollywood. She perservered. She lived on Central Park South in NYC for years with husband Garson Kanin (a screenwriter). Met her once in the old Sam Goody's; she was looking for a "record player" for her grandson; just as nutty in person as on screen. One of a kind wonderful. RIP Ruth.
@citationxbjfv Ruth Gordon has never been mediatised in Europe xcept in UK maybe...( english speakers).nevertheless ,once you had seen her moving and acting how could you forget her?....

That, I believe, is Thelma Ritter at 1:44. I love Ruth AND Thelma but just wanted to set that straight.
