@gerri577 We had a union where I worked and you could join by choice - $60.00 monthly dues. The union tried to make it mandatory membership for everyone to work but they were voted down. The union used hardball and intimidating tactics in an attempt to make the workers vote in favor of mandatory participation. I dropped my membership because of their tactics. My dad belonged to a union where he had NO choice but to join - if he wanted to work.

Those who exercise name calling, profanitiy and disparaging comments are not worth responding to...their comments bespeak their character. I do have a question for those who claim the repubs want to violate workers' rights. It's mandatory you join the union in order to work - you cannot choose to be a non member of the union.  You don't have the right to choose!!! How can you claim to support workers' rights, but, at the same time, deny the workers' right to choose?

@americantear freeport mcmoran 's employees are protected by a union if they CHOOSE to join it. good thing I joined up. The mines closed for over a year, but when they started back up, my job was guaranteed. Thanx to my union.

Walker can give huge tax breaks no big corporations but can't afford to give a fair shake to the workers that created them and if you are non-union, this will hit YOUR job. Biblically speaking, unions are good, so no Christian or anyone who professes to be conservative or whatever should not be totally agianst unions. Now, if they get corrupt, we should investigate those particular leaders and/or organizations. I don't know the full specifics about the economic part of the story...I'll have to look into it like everybody else.

That said, they left because they were threatened with arrest. By a governor who refused to negotiate or compromise .

And now we see this. What I find scary is that the Representative kept telling them their actions were illegal, but they didn't care. That, my friend, is how democracy dies.

@jarhewes1 No, it was done during the day. and if the 14 senators had showed some guts and stayed in Wisconsin to do their job Walker would not have been forced to get this bill passed to prevent 1500 gov't workers from being laid off.As for the middle of thew night, why are you silent over the "Health care bill that Reid, pelosi, etc didn't bother to even read before they passed it on a holiday weekend so they can avoid the backlash right after they passed it.

Why don't you curse them when the 14 senators waived their vote by refusing to return to Wisconsin to do their job. Unions faired better in Ohio but those senators didn't cowardly flee the state. Why don't you have a problem when dem senators refuse to do their job. Let's dock them a months, no make that two months pay and they have to pay the state back for their hotel rooms,etc
