@MrEntertainmentrules It's definitely silly to us as adults, but kids don't know that. Things like germs and deterioration of the latex/silicone on binkies are things they don't understand. It's kind of precious in a way. And babies are born with the urge to suckle. It's hard when a newborn stops sucking on your finger and cries endlessly until it gets something else to suck on (especially when you aren't breast feeding or when you're sore from breastfeeding).

There is a huge catch. The kid has to tell his parents about the binky fairy or else it won't work. However, you can't explain to the kid why he or she needs to tell the parents.

i notice that there's a whole series of videos with elmo about putting down the pacifier on YT, as a daycare worker i see kids as old as 2 y/o still sucking on pacifiers. i find this to be a great system for kids of that age to use to transition out of pacifiers into the "big kid" enviroment
