Umm Etta who? Yeah I really don't see how her version was "the best". This one has way more of the romantic feeling whereas the other one...yeah...let's hope etta won't rise from the dead the next time someone else chooses to sing a song that wasn't hers originally anyway.
Mack Gordon was the lyricist on "At Last". Harry Warren ("Jeepers Creepers") composed the music. The first recording of "At Last" was in 1941 by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra for possible inclusion in the movie Sun Valley Serenade. In 1942, Glenn Miller recorded the song for the movie Orchestra Wives. In fact, "At Last" was the theme song for the movie and can be heard in the musical score throughout the movie like "As Time Goes By" in Casablanca. Glenn Miller also released it as a 78 single.
Oh no he just stole Etta's song !! haha.. I still can't find Mack's version but this is great. I love these old songs, makes me think of my grandma and grandpa
@mixwell1983 Actually Nat recorded this years before Etta did, but the song had been around long before Nat sang it. It was even a hit for the Glenn Miller Orchestra back in the 1940's.
@Nocaro - I know I was being sarcastic, I knew that Glenn Miller and or Mack Gordon had recorded it back in the 40's which is why I found it rather funny that Etta talked crap about Beyonce "stealing" her song which was never hers to begin with.
@Nocaro Correct. The first time I heard the song was in 1956 on my Nat King Cole album. Etta didn't record it until 1961. When the Obamas danced to Etta's version at the inaugural party, the media gave HER all the credit and they're still doing it. Hmph!!
I had this LP although I didn't get it till my late teens. What a wonderful voice, such a shame he died so young. That voice was created by non stop smoking.
Great version, as with every song Nat sang, he gave it his personal stamp, however Etta James' rendition still trumps mister Cole's take! The first version of this song goes back to 1941 for the Hollywood musical movie, orchestra Wives.
so gorgeous

Why can't they make songs like this any more? We need someone on this earth to be Nat King Cole "reborn".

Warm and affectionate song coupled with the coolness of Nat's singing voice- thank you for uploading this classic oldie.

@felixbautista Beautiful rendition and quite different from the big hit by
Etta James of the same song.
