@thedowner And I want to see this done in a proper track, and not just stupid drag race or a 1 mile thing. The HKS GT800 was designed for the track and not just 0-60 ot quartermiles.
It seems like they've gone to a lot of trouble for what is essentially just a 1 second difference on their test track. While I realize that 1 second is big in the racing world, for those weekend track warriors at whom this package is aimed at, it seems like the money (which I know HKS will charge an arm a leg for) could be better spent in other areas.. could it not?
@usernamefromhell thats not the point. it would be easier and cheaper to boost an RB26 in an R34 skyline, which would achieve the same numbers and lap times. the point of this car was to develop a race-spec high performance turbo kit to market for the GTR, probably to rival a kit with similar numbers made by Trust/GReddy.
btw, the GTR doesnt run a VQ it runs a VR38DETT.......
@DRFTmonkeh VR38, right, my bad. But still, having to change pistons and rods is pain, it goes beyond just a "kit", it's a dam rebuild! a 2jz can take 800hp on stock internals. Not to mention that this kit probably costs as much as a 10 liter crate v8 motor.
@usernamefromhell cost effectiveness isn't the point. this kit is for GTR owners who want more from their personal GTR, not a supra. cars that perform as good as the GT800 for less money are a dime a dozen, but some people just prefer the R35 over those other cars
@DxWhoopingCrane ...Right. I have a bachelors degree in Automotive design, did an internship with McLaren, and was involved in the design of the MP4-12C, what have you done? Anyway, I'm just saying that this seems like more trouble than it's worth, 2jz can handle 800hp on stock internals. V6's tend to vibrate at high rpms under stress, melting and destroying everything inside, an inline 6, like the RB26, and 2JZ are better suited for this kind of power.
@setra23 Yeah, I guess it's a pain either way, The HKS GT600, might be a better choice for most enthusiasts, I'd rather spend the extra money on further weight reductions, grippier rubber, and further suspension tweaking... And more importantly tweaking the car to my own personal driving style. Then again, at this level, I'm guessing that money is no object...
that engine looks like they just threw a whole bunch of wire on top of it, you cant even see the engine itself

all that work for 1 second around the track?? they could have spent all of that money on weight reduction and been faster. #fail

scraping the vq, and mounting an rb or 2jz, would have been easier and cheaper...

@usernamefromhell 800hp on stock internals for a 2jz, is that why the driftworks 2jz went bang at 666hp?
How easy do you really think it would be to swap the engine out of a GTR? You'd spend months just try to get the looms sorted.

@DRFTmonkeh They could be A LOT bigger, but I mean for this purpose built car, huge gigantic turbo's aren't a good idea.
