  • thats good =) i just.. i guess the only way to describe it is .. if someone went to the holocaust museum wearing a swastika, or into church with an upside down cross or inverted pentagram... thats how i view someone going to a res helping them , with a cross on their neck... to me thats their preaching work in itself... saying to them "i'm christian, see we're not all that bad" making them easier to convert when others come along like the jehovahs witnesses .. that make sense???

  • um what is with the crosses on the necks ?? how disrespectful!!!!!! its like going into germany by concentration camp victims with a swastika surrounded by little beaded david stars around their necks ?! i would love to help for them .. but the thought of them being a religious org turns me almost completely off..

  • @weirdfetishes5 Re-member was founded by a two UCC pastors, but Re-member is not a religious organization. In fact, they absolutely forbid evangelizing or any other actions by participants that would be construed as trying to "convert" anyone. In addition to working to improve living conditions on the Rez, participants learn about the Lakota culture and all the history – from a Lakota perspective – and the realities of what transpired in the past (and continues to happen on the Rez today).

  • Unforgettable Experience - 5 trips, Life Changing - Spiritual and Emotional connection to a Great and Proud People. Just to stand where some of America's most unforgivable travesties occurred and still continue to occur makes the heart bleed in shame. One recalls H.Rap Brown's comment, "Once you are aware, you are either part of the solution or you are part of the cause. Put that around your heart and try to walk upright my fellow Americans. Live Strong My Friends.

  • The woman talking about the bunk beds speaks such sense. We can't fix it, only the Lakota can do that, but we can build beds - great comment. And not patronising.

  • yah Tom (from Remember) is really annoying. The long hair hippie guy.

  • Hi I went to Re-member and lakotawarrior74 do exactly what ahultgre told you and call them and they will bring you a bed. Trust me.

  • I would love to volunteer for Re-member. I wish I could afford the trip. * sighs *

  • Just returning from the Rez, the effort that Re-member is putting in is immense. It is clear that there is such an enormous area for them to cover and they are trying their best to help as many people as they can. I think it is a great thing for the people there and an amazing cause.

  • Where actually did you put that bed or beds? I never seen any of those beds anywhere on the Reservation. I live on the Reservation and I havn't seen anything from Re-member. I believe that Re-member is like most Church groups that come to the Rez they say they that they give to the people and the people don't get nothing and they are once again left out in the cold. People send donations and the donations don't even reach the people. Where is the money going?!

  • Lakotawarrior74,

Over the last 11 years Re-member has placed over 4,000 beds on the Rez in people's houses, mostly in the Wounded Knee and Pine Ridge areas, although they've placed some in a lot of the other communities as well. If you are on the Rez and want more information or are interested in getting a bunk bed (or other home repairs they might be able to help you with), contact them directly at 877-205-2105. Thanks!

  • i am on the rez and I see Re-member all over the place. Look for their vans and all the volunteers wearing t-shirts. They clean the trash and help elders. They fixed my grandpa's deck a couple years ago. They help and do good work. Go stop by they are on the way into Pine Ridge.
