I think Barney's character was much more interesting during these episodes that had tension over his loving Robin. I loved that season and I loved seeing him at his work. Lately it seems he's more goofy two-dimensional. He can do so much more.

@Mimzy79 i think the writers have dropped a massive hint very early on that the two end up together forever. in slutty pumpkin ted mentions that robin now likes to dress up but during the story didnt like it, and in the story he tells her that one day she'll find someone who she loves so much she will want to dress up and look silly for them... Barney just happens to love halloween and wears 3 different outfits in that episode
